Maya was ecstatic to hear that Mr. De La Rue was willing to let her family off the hook, after all, it was what she wanted to talk to him about.
"Let me drop you off at home, I'm sure you want to tell your family the news," Nathaniel offered as they walked back to his car.
"Thank you," Maya said as she gave Nathaniel a kind smile.
It was small and simple actions like these that gave him hope. Hope that she could find it in her heart to forgive him, to give him another chance.
He of course felt bad that their date was cut abruptly, but seeing her this happy was more than worth it.
When Maya spotted her grandfather's mansion at a distance, she looked at Nathaniel and reached out to hold his hand.
"I'm sorry," she said in a sad voice. "I know you wanted this to be a real date but my mind was always elsewhere."
