I stood in my bedroom gaping at Stark and Erik who both stared back at me. My mind took everything in—both of these men who I loved and trusted, standing poised for action. Like they were ready to catch me. Or restrain me.

Like they were worried I might faint. Or stab one of them.

"I'm sorry, please say that again… what do you mean, my wife is gone?"

Stark cleared his throat. "Zara was apparently told to take a rest before the wedding so she wouldn't be tired tonight," he said carefully. My breath caught as my mind flooded with the joy that had been sparking in my stomach when we'd had that conversation, because at the time all I could think about was having her alone at the estate and all the surfaces I was going to lay her down on, or bend her over, when we finally had time to ourselves.
