Time-skip, Early Evening, POV Chris…
"…And this is my favorite rock!" King said scampering toward a large rock that vaguely looked like a skull. "That's really cool King," I said with a smile as King tried to lift the skull rock up. "Hey King, how about we leave the skull rock here for now, it's not going anywhere," I said as King hung his head with a disappointed look on his face.
'*sigh*, now I feel bad, how how do I make it up to him… maybe that would work?' I thought as I kneeled and placed a hand on King's shoulder. "Hey King, how about I bring that rock back later, so you can have it near the house?" I suggested as King raised his head to look at me. "Really? you'll do that?" King asked as I nodded. "Yep," I said as King seemed to think it over before nodding. "Ok, but you have to promise me you really will do it otherwise you will face my wrath," King said in a cute way while trying to come off as fierce as he put out his hand.
"I promise," I said as I took his small hand and shook it. "Now let's head back before the sun goes down, ok?" I said as King nodded before I lifted him onto my shoulder and walked back home…
Time-skip 30 minutes later…
"Are we there yet?" King asked as I looked up at him. "Yes, we're almost back," I answered as I walked out into a clearing where we saw the house not too far off from us. "Finally, hey Duke." "Yeah, King?" I responded as King pointed to the ground.
"Can I get down?" He asked as I nodded and placed him down on the ground before he charged off ahead. "Wow, he's got a lot of energy," I said before transforming back into my witch form as I walked up to the house where King was looking at Hootie annoyed as Hootie started rambling about a bug he ate.
"Hey Hootie can you let us in?" I asked as Hootie turned his focus to me. "Oh hey, Az! Did you know I ate a really large bug today because are my protein and-" I stopped as I asked him my previous question. "Hm? Oh, of course, chat later!" Hootie said as I nodded and walked in with King who looked at me confused.
"Hey, we're back!" I said as I saw Raine talking to two familiar green-haired preteens. "Az, you're finally back," Raine said as he turned around to greet us. 'Wait, why are they here?' I thought as the two familiar preteens walked up. "Hey Az, remember us?" Edric asked with a friendly smile.
"Yeah, I remember, you're Amity's older brother and sister?" I said trying not to be overly familiar. 'Did I even get their names last time I saw them?' I thought for a second before I focused back on Edric. "Yep, I'm Edric and that's- ow!" He started to speak before being pushed out of the way by his sister. "-and I'm Emira, nice to see you again Az." She said as she outstretched her hand.
"Nice, to see you again too," I said with the best smile I could give. 'What are they up to?' I thought while we continued chatting. 'They must be the sitters but with their tendencies… this is going to be tiring.' I continued thinking before I noticed Raine right next to us. "Nice to see how good you guys get along, now Az you've probably guessed this by now but Edric and Emira here will be looking after King and you while Eda and I are out, so try to behave, alright?" Raine said as I heard someone coming down the stairs.
"Ok Raine, I'm ready- oh hey Az and King are back, great let's get going then!" Eda said grabbing Raine by the arm as she pulled him toward the door. "Remember what I told you and make sure to call if something-" Raine said hurriedly only to be cut off by the door as it slammed shut. "…So, what do you guys want to do?" Emira spoke up first as she turned towards us.
"Ooh ooh, I know! How about a board game?" Edric said as he pulled out something that kind of looked like Monopoly. "Does that sound good to you two?" Emira said turning to us as Edric looked at us excited. "Sure?" I said feeling confused that they hadn't acted like I thought before turning to King who looked reluctant. "I don't know…" King answered holding his chin in thought looking at King I thought about helping him with his reluctance since this seemed fine.
"You can take over land," I mentioned thinking that the game was the same as Monopoly. "Really?" King asked excitedly as he turned to Edric who nodded. "Now that we've decided we can get to playing," Emira said as we sat down in the living room and set up the board.
Time skip, an hour later...
"Well, that was different?" I said to the twins confused as I thought back to the weird rules of the game. "Though I think King is happy," I said turning to King who was standing on the board with a cardboard crown on his head. "Bow down to me peasants!" King said pointing at the pieces on the board. "So what now?" I turned back to see them looking at each other with mischievous smiles on their faces that made me feel some dread as they turned back to me. 'Oh, that's not good.' I thought as Emira started to speak.
"Well you see, we have a fun little prank..." Emira started to explain as they both led me outside with King soon following after. "...do I have to?" I asked looking back at Edric and Emira who stood behind me. "Don't you want some free food?" Emira said before I looked back down at the stall I was two stories above. "No not really," I stated before I saw Emira raise King to look at me. "Please?" King said with the same puppy dog eyes I remember using on Camila.
"...ugh fine, just remember the plan," I said turning back as I readied myself to cast a spell. "Huh?" The stall owner turned back, distracted by the sound of footsteps only to find nothing. "Good job Az," Emira said as I turned back to see her standing there still holding King. "Wait aren't you supposed to be grabbing the snacks with Edric?" I questioned before Emira shook her head and pointed to Edric who upon spotting us waved only for the stall owner to see him with the snacks in hand.
"He spotted Edric!" I exclaimed before seeing the man turn up to look at us. "He's spotted us!" I said turning around to see Emira and King already gone. "Are you kidding me?!" I said before rushing across the roof as I slid down the ladder and took off running. "Get back here!" I heard from behind me as I increased my pace.
POV Change Lilith, BonesBorough...
"Now like I said before this is an important mission to track down the Owl lady's son who broke the Phoenix tear got it everyone?" Lilith said as everyone saluted. "Yes ma'am!" A fresh-looking member of the Emperor's coven said gaining Lilith's attention. "And what's your name?" Lilith asked intrigued by the soldier's enthusiasm. "Steve, ma'am!" Steve said as Lilith smiled. "Well, Steve it's good to see someone with enthusiasm," Lilith said as she gave Steve a pat on the shoulder. Steve stood there frozen for a second before looking back at Lilith. "Thank you Coven Leader!" He said enthusiastically ignoring the grumbles about the newbie in the background.
"-Get back here!" A voice shouted out from an alley between two nearby buildings. "What?" Lilith said before looking over in that direction where she saw a kid with familiar blue hair running away from a demon in an apron. "Oh thank Titan, the Emperor's coven is here! Please chase after that brat he's involved with the thieves who stole from my stand!" The stall owner said as Lilith only needed a second to process what he said before taking off with the rest of the Coven guards wordlessly following behind.
POV Change Chris...
"*huff**huff*, did I lose him?" I thought out loud while running as I turned around to check. "Owl Lady's son stop and surrender now and face your punishment!" I heard as I finished turning my head back to see... Aunt Lilith. 'Run faster! Run faster!' I thought as I decided to speed up despite feeling tired.
"Hey, I told you to slow down!" I heard Lilith scream from behind as I kept running, passing by a few alleys that I couldn't quite focus on. "Shit!" I said as I felt a burning sensation spread across my calf before stumbling into an alley. "*Thud* ack!" I exclaimed as I lost my footing and hit a wall.
"I got him" I heard a guy I could only assume was a Coven guard. "Show off!" I heard another say as I quickly limped further into the alley only to see it was a dead end. "Seriously?!" I shouted still agitated from having my leg hit by a fireb-. 'Wait...' I thought as I looked at a large piece of slag. 'probably from a smithy or something?... whatever let's just place this over here and... there we go!' I thought as I dragged the piece of metal over to what looked to be some kind of black powder that was probably gunpowder. "I know I started using elemental magic recently but I hope this works!" I said as I tried to conjure a fireball.
"He's over there!" I heard another voice yell as I looked up to see the Coven Guards starting to converge before losing focus and feeling yet another searing pain as I flailed my hand only to see the tiny fireball falling into the powder. "fuuuuuUUUUUCK!" I screamed out while being launched up onto the roof. "*CLANG*" The metal sheet of slag hit the roof as I fell off the slag and onto the roof watching as it stopped in mid-air a few meters in front of me. "Nice job Az!" I heard a voice say from behind as I saw Emira step from behind followed by a weirdly translucent blob that looked like it would fade away at any moment before poofing out of existence.
"Was that illusion magic?" I said distractedly before snapping out of it and refocusing on Emira. "Wait why are you here and why did you ditch me before?" I asked as Emira only smiled before gesturing to where I came from. "I saw that group of Coven guards and didn't have enough time to hide you before the stall owner saw you, sorry." Emira said looking at me with a 'sad' face.
I looked at her annoyed but only sighed. "Fine whatever, so can you get us out of here?" I asked before Emira developed a thoughtful look for a second before looking at me and smiling. "What? What is it?" I asked before looking at something in her hand. "What is tha-?" I barely started saying before a flash of light enveloped my vision…
