Capítulo 52: Chapter 27.2 : Sigh

Step by step, Jacob, alongside his comrades, or rather what remained of them, walked through underground tunnels, weapons in hand ready to eliminate anyone that stood in their way.

The Jacob of earlier today would perhaps act somewhat differently right now, but after seeing what he had seen, Jacob no longer had any sort of hesitation, and would do anything to protect his own life.

Or so thought Jacob.

As for the truth, nobody could know that at the moment.

At this moment, though, a hand suddenly touched Jacob's shoulder, causing the latter to faintly twitch.

"Jacob, it's alright, we've gone through the most dangerous part, what are you afraid of?" asked the soldier who had touched Jacob on the shoulder.

But before Jacob could react in any sort of meaningful way, the radio on his waist suddenly began ringing, causing him to immediately take it up to his ear.

A few moments later, the eyes of Jacob, as well as of the other soldiers, suddenly widened.

...

Sounds of puking.

This was all that could be heard in this particular section of underground tunnels at the moment, as Jacob, as well as three other soldiers were currently puking, whilst the others tried their bests to keep their lunches to themselves.

Sadly though, only a moment later, one of the soldiers unintentionally looked into the room that had been created within the tunnels.

Inside this room lay over twenty corpses, scattered throughout.

In total, there were 22 corpses scattered throughout the room, which had been counted back when the group of soldiers first arrived.

What made this even more uncomfortable was the fact that while some of the corpses lay neatly on chairs, some of the people present in this room were clearly not as cooperative, and had died trying to open the heavy stone door, which blocked their path at life.

One of these men, an African man dressed in a somewhat weird outfit, had even managed to get outside the room before being shot in the head, or what remained of it, multiple times.

At this moment though, even while quite a few of them were clearly uncomfortable and needed some time to rest, the soldiers still had to do their duties.

"Let's see if anyone managed to survive whilst these guys are recovering," said Alexander, the leader of this group of soldiers, causing them to finally take action and begin looking through the room more thoroughly.

Step by step, body by body, the soldiers searched for survivors without any sort of luck.

With each body that had to be checked, some of the less strong-willed soldiers became more and more sick, before eventually joining the four that were outside the room.

...

As he looked at the twenty-one corpses that had been cleaned up a bit and neatly placed in a grid pattern, a deep frown appeared on the face of Alexander.

"I counted them myself, how could there be only 21?" mumbled Alexander with a stupefied look on his face, as he knew best of all that there had been 22 corpses within the room.

...

As he looked at the long, silent tunnel that he had arrived in, Andropov, who was currently covered in blood from head to toe, couldn't help but let out a silent sigh, trying his best to not make any sound.

The very next moment, though, Andropov nearly fell to the ground upon trying to take another step, as his mind was suddenly reminded of the state of his leg.

Even though he had been somewhat lucky to have been shot in the leg and not somewhere else, Andropov knew that his injury would greatly decrease his chances at survival.

'Hopefully those two bastards don't disappoint me, if they couldn't manage to escape after having a 30-minute head start I will hunt them down myself,' thought Andropov as he lowered himself onto the cold ground, so that he could get some much-needed rest.

Of course, Andropov knew that the two of them would most likely be able to escape with their lives, as well as with the target that they had been searching for, as he had trained them himself.

After a few more moments of rest, Andropov then got up from the ground, using his arms and the wall to decrease the burden placed on his legs.

No matter what he did, Andropov knew that he had to get the hell away from this place, otherwise his chances at survival would be nearly null, as such, he did not take any chances and began walking away.

After walking for a few minutes, though, Andropov suddenly stopped and pulled out his handgun from his pocket before turning around.

As he looked at the dark tunnel behind him, which was occasionally lit up by a lone light bulb, Andropov listened carefully, causing the faint sound of footsteps coming from the distance to become clear to him.

"There's over twenty of them," mumbled Andropov before deciding on what to do, causing him to suddenly place his gun into his mouth and shoot himself straight into the brain without any sort of hesitation.

In an instant, the bullet went through Andropov's brain and shot out the back of his head.

Thanks to his proficiency and experience, Andropov was able to quickly and cleanly commit suicide, causing him to instantly die without any sort of struggle or pain.

A few moments after that, two dozen Swiss soldiers would finally encounter Andropov's dead body.

...

At the same time, in Russia.

As she opened her eyes and stared at the dark ceiling above her, a faint frown couldn't help but appear on the face of Diana, who was currently lying on a sofa and relaxing.

A few moments after that, after thinking for a bit, Diana shook her head and let out a faintly sad sigh.

Only a few moments later, under the eyes of the figure who was staring at her from a corner of this dark room, Diana once again closed her eyes.
