Capítulo 119: Chapter 119: Banquet Officially Begins!
"Anyways, let's change topics; this isn't necessarily the time nor place where I should be explaining my romantic life to you, not like you really need to know either." Said Elif as he placed the bowl of lighting cherries where it previously was since people began sitting down at the table, signifying that the banquet would be commencing.
"Hmm, what was this about romantic life, Prince Elif?" Asked Eyvor curiously, having overheard Elif's words while approaching her seat directly next to his.
"Ahh, nothing much, Eyvor; I was just explaining to Illumia that she should find a romantic partner; she is getting old, and it'll be harder for her to find a man. Or a woman; as a man, I definitely wouldn't mind if you were interested in the same sex." Replied Elif as he playfully winked at Illumia.
"For your information, I'm quite young relative to my cultivation base; also, I prefer men, though I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to settling down with a woman, If I can not find the man for me." Stated Illumia blandly while her eyebrow twitched in annoyance at Elif's words.
"Ho, I didn't know that you swung both ways, Illumia, though with me present, you don't need to worry about not finding the right man; since you're my maid, I don't mind taking care of you." Stated Elif with a playful smirk as he blew a kiss toward Illumia, to which she reacted by doing nothing and just blankly stared at Elif.
"I appreciate the offer; however, you should know I'm not interested in young men." Replied Illumia with her own smirk, causing Elif's face to now twitch in annoyance.
"Hmph, fine Illumia, since you wish to be foolish and deny such a blessed opportunity, I will not force it upon you but don't expect this offer to remain on the table. Servants, am I right, Eyvor?" Declared Elif in an annoyed tone before ignoring Illumia and looking at the amused Eyvor to his left.
"I don't know, Prince Elif; you and Ms. Illumia seem to have a very close relationship. Excuse me if I'm asking too personal of a question, but do you two have a more intimate relationship?" Replied Eyvor with an unnatural smile as she suspiciously eyed the two of them, her words causing Elif to nearly spit out his drink while Illumias opened her eyes in shock.
"I-Intimate relationship!? I don't know where you came up with that idea, but if you're implying that Illumia and I have a secret sexual relationship, you're sorely mistaken. Of the eight years I've known Illumia, I've seen everything there is about her, and I can say that the only thing remotely attractive is her body." Declared Elif in playful seriousness as he eyed Eyvor, though his poor choice of words wasn't really convincing.
"I must agree with His Highness on this, Ms. Eyvor; I've known him since he was merely four, and while he may have an appearance that puts Incubi to shame, I'm sure you've heard the phrasing, don't judge a book by its cover." Declared Illumia earnestly, though while she sounded slightly more convincing than Elif, her words didn't have the desired effect.
"I-I see." Replied Eyvor with a forced smile, though it was apparent to both that she didn't fully believe their words.
"Seriously, Eyvor, we are not in a relationship; if some rumors start spreading that Illumia and I are in a sexual relationship, it could quite be quite bad for her if Mother and Father find out." Said Elif with an expression of sincerity as he looked at Eyvor, this time sounding much more convincing than before.
"I understand; I didn't believe the two of you to be in an intimate relationship. It's just over the past day I've noticed you two seem to complement each other quite well, so I was merely curious. I apologize for asking." Said Eyvor with a slightly blushed face while apologetically smiling.
"It's fine; I don't mind that you asked; I just can't have you thinking we're in some type of relationship." Stated Elif as his demeanor returned to normal.
"Now then, Illumia, I was merely joking about what I said; however, your tone of voice didn't seem to be that of a joke. So, mind explaining what you meant by, don't judge a book by its cover?" Remarked Elif as he eyed the quiet Illumia with a glint.
Luckily for Illumia, while the three of us were talking, everyone had already arrived at the banquet, and just as I questioned her, two rows of guards entered the dining hall from either side of the doorway and announced Matriarch and Patriarch Aasveig's arrival.
"Matriarch Aasveig and Patriarch Aasveig have arrived!" Loudly announced the several guards as the Matriarch and Patriarch entered the dining room with locked arms.
Seeing their arrival, everyone, including me, stood up; the act of standing up when the one who is hosting the banquet arrives is a courteous gesture, and although it wasn't required from someone of my status, it would've been quite rude, especially since our hegemonies are long term allies.
When Matriarch and Patriarch Aasveig finally arrived at their seats at the end of the table, which was directly next to Eyvor, everyone sat down while the dining hall stayed silent, waiting for Patriarch Aasveig to officially start the banquet.
"I'm Glad everyone in the Fairy Clan managed to attend; now, this is just a small banquet to show our appreciation for our guest, the Crown Prince of the Immortal Elven Empire, Elif August!" Stated Patriarch Aasveig with a smile as he lifted a cup to give a toast before he and everyone looked at Elif.
"Now then, I officially commence the start of the banquet!" Declared Patriarch Aasveig as he downed the cup full of alcohol before sitting down, resulting in the previously quiet hall becoming lively.
The instant Patriarch Aasveig officially started the banquet; the dining hall became quite loud as everyone started conversing with each other while eating. I was no different as I swiftly floated the large bowl of lightning cherries from the center of the table directly to me. My actions did happen to catch some attention, as several people gave me weird looks, but other than that, nothing happened.
"Haha, It seems Eyvor wasn't mistaken; you indeed love lightning cherries." Remarked Patriarch Aasveig with a light smile as he began eating some of the prepared food.
"You should've seen him just a few minutes ago, dear; I caught him sneakily devouring them before the banquet started. I wouldn't be surprised if he had an obsession with him." Stated Matriarch Aasveig with a light smile as she also ate some food, her words causing Patriarch Aasveig to release a hearty laugh.
"You didn't need to inform them of that, Matriarch Aasveig; some things are best left unspoken; besides, I don't have an obsession with lightning cherries; I just really love their taste." Said Elif dryly as his eye twitched in annoyance while looking at her.
"Your Highness, it is rare for me to see you go just three hours without consuming any lightning cherries; I don't think it would be an overstatement to say you're addicted to lightning cherries." Mentioned Illumia, though her sudden statement caused Elif to eye her while both Patriarch and Matriarch Aasveig laughed.
"Ho, you're feeling quite talkative right now, Illumia; since you seem to want to talk so much, why don't you tell me what you meant when you said don't judge a book by its cover?" Remarked Elif with a slightly annoyed expression as he eyed Illumia, though she stayed quiet.
"Tch thought so."
"Mother, you and Prince Elif have already encountered each other?" Asked Eyvor with slight curiosity.
"Yes; just before the banquet officially started, I came to inspect it to make sure everything was going according to plan; however, as I was doing so, I happened to notice Prince Elif sitting down while eating, and I figured it would about time to introduce myself to him." Replied Matriarch Aasveig with a light smile while figuring it would be best not to mention that weird conversation with Elif in such a public setting.
"I was quite surprised when I saw her; I never realized you take so much after your Mother." Said Elif while observing the other food present at the table and wondering if he should taste them.
"Haa, tell me about it, Prince Elif; if it weren't for the fact that our wings are the same color, I'd be suspicious that she was my child." Stated Patriarch Aasveig with a sad sigh before sipping his cup.
"Do not mind him, Prince Elif; he always gets like this whenever that's mentioned; just ignore him." Advised Matriarch Aasveig with a frown as she shook her head and ignored him.
For the next hour or so, the four of us conversed with Illumia joining in every now and then, though while doing so, I noticed a few people approaching our location before sitting down in the open seats around us.
"Prince Elif, it's n-nice to s-see you again." Said Clove shyly with a lovely smile and a slightly blushed face.
"How has your time been at the Fairy Clan so far? I've heard Eyvor showed you Fairyopolis." Asked Yolen while also smiling, though, unlike her cousin, she knew how to stay calm.
"Prince Elif." Said Fulton with a nod as he sat opposite Elif, while Clove and Yolen sat to his right, with Yolen sitting closer.
"Clove, Yolen, and Fulton, it's good to see you three again, and so far, my time here has been quite fun. Got to gain experience on what it is like to battle a Fairy, and yes, Eyvor did show Fairyopolis, and I must say it was fun; I plan to visit there again with Eyvor before I leave." Replied Elif with a light smile.
"Speaking of battle, it was quite irresponsible of you, Eyvor, to have our guest battle on the second day of his visit; I know you guys are young and wish to test yourselves, but you could've at least waited a few days to do so." Said Patriarch Aasveig as he lightly reprimanded Eyvor.
"Ahh, no need to admonish her Patriarch Aasveig; she wasn't the one who initiated the idea for battle; it was Edvin; besides, It was decently entertaining. I just wish Edvin had arranged for stronger opponents." Said Elif as he interjected Patriarch Aasveig, though his words caused everyone to feel slightly awkward since those people he was talking down on were their clan members.
"Well, since the one involved spoke on your behalf Eyvor, I won't punish you, but don't let that happen again, alright? Now speaking of Edvin, here he approaches right now." Stated Patriarch Aasveig as he eyed Eyvor before looking up when he sensed Edvin nearing their table.
