It has been days since Cassey had last seen Tyrone yet her daughter always told her stories on how she had spent time with him.
He had given her the keys of the room they shared in the past and had made an attached room for Penny. The room was connected to his room from the other side.
She often heard her stories on how Penny had spent time with her father but for some reason, she had never seen them together. As if he was doing it intentionally. As if he was ignoring her presence.
She did not know if the thought should make her relieved or bitter. When she opened her closet, it still had everything she left, but his things were gone, not a single thing was left. It was as if he had never been a part of this room, her life.
She was assigned a maid that followed her everywhere and helped her with things, but it felt more like she had a spy to her side or she might be overthinking.
She looked at herself in the mirror. She looks so different from her past self. the smile that used to be on her face was gone forever.
"My lady, this dress did not fit you anymore." They say that women gain a lot of weight after giving birth, but it was the opposite in her case.
She looked like a skeleton now. Her body was already slim but now she had lost more of her weight. That is the smallest size available in the market, madam. I think you have to buy custom made clothes for your side." the maid sighed as she looked at the loose dress. She swore that she would not be able to fit in it even when she was a petite woman.
She tried to eat more and rest more since Penny was spending more time with her father but food just rejected her body. Whenever she tried to eat further, she vomited or got sick. In the end, she skipped more meals. She was looking pathetic.
"No, it is fine. I would like to take some rest for now." she waved her hands.
The maid nodded and left the room when Cassey looked at herself again. Her eyes filled with tears suddenly. She was relieved that her daughter was not there to see her breaking.
She walked towards her balcony and sat on the chair when she noticed Penny. She was in the small lake with Tyrone, he was holding her while making sure that she clapped her hands and legs.
The way he was panicking when she was not listening to him or the way she was giggling while enjoying the water was adorable.
Her eyes were twinkling and they looked so happy that Cassey felt hurt. If only she could be part of their fun.
He finally let go of her tummy when she asked him to and then she swam. She actually swam well. Her eyes softened but she did not linger for a long time.
She walked back into the room and wrapped her arms around her knees as she laid on the bed.
She was about to succumb to sleep when she heard the whispers around her room.
"Your highness had still not asked her to leave. What if the princess got angry?" the voice seems to be worried. The door of her room was opened and then closed again but she could feel the presence of two women in her room.
"Oh! She is sleeping again! All she does is sleep and eat. She didn't even care about her child. It has been a week since your highness is taking care of the young child. He didn't even go to his office. How careless a woman could be!" The woman looked at Cassey as if she was an opportunist.
Cassey held the pillow tighter but did not open her eyes.
"She still seems sick. She did not say a word to me all the time I served her. I do not know if we really need to observe her." There was hesitation in the voice of her maid but the other woman scoffed.
"Ha! You do not know. She has been kind and nice to everyone in the past too. But when the war started and the master had to leave, she disappeared from the palace one day. When we lost the war and the master was brought back, he was severely injured.
Only then did everyone come to know that she had stolen the secrets from his office and sold them to the members of another empire. She did not care about the life of knights, or her husband. All she cared about was.. Money!
What if she is here to steal something or spy on master again. We need to make sure that she is not able to contact her allies or we catch her red handed so that she could not make any excuses. Did you get that?" Cassey did not hear the reply of the other maid but the information was too much for her.
Did they think she had stolen information and sold it to others! Is that why Tyrone hates him so much?
"You do not need to be soft to her, Mary! She didn't deserve your kindness." said the woman sternly when Mary sighed.
"Yes, shall we check her luggage now?" They walked further inside the room and Cassey could hear the rummaging of her clothes and bags she had still not opened. Things were thrown out carelessly.
It was not only about things but her. She felt insulted but more Pathetic that she was listening to all this without a word as if she deserved it. As if she was really at fault.
"I have told you, there is nothing in the luggage!" said Mary when the woman snorted.
"Ha! She must be playing safe. A person can never change her greed and selfishness."
