The dozens of emerald flowers blossoming across the sky above our dark forest winked out quickly, but they had done their job by then. They told the tale of the nearby reinforcements who were making their way toward us and from all directions too. 

Mistress Lorelai had once called me a brilliant strategist who came once in a Yggdrasil season…

Fine, maybe that last part was an exaggeration, but Mistress Lorelai did praise me for many of my previous plans that gave us victory despite nearly getting us killed. 

"Any strategy you can walk away from is a success," my dökkálfar instructor once told me. 

I agreed.

Sure, we may not look as pretty as we'd been when the night started, but Liara and I were at the cusp of victory while my nemesis, well, the cowering white wolf that was nowhere near the demon wolf's actual size had surely seen better days. 

So, yes, I did think this made me a brilliant strategist.
