All too soon, the vision of the sandy-haired boy was gone, and a complete demon wolf was rising back to its feet with its murderous gaze fixed entirely on me. Its powerful jaws would have bitten my head off if Carmina hadn't dragged me out of its range and back to where Liara waited for us. 

"You were right about the boy," the newly minted vampire lord said. "He is the key to ridding us of this foul beast."

I know I shouldn't have, but I couldn't help feeling offended. I too was a werewolf after all.

"The rod's effects seem to affect him badly," Liara noted. 

She refused to call it the 'Glowing Stick of Destiny' which I thought was groovier than rod or broken spear shaft. 

"I know." I glanced down at the spear shaft in my hands and the blinking rune near its tip. "I just wish I knew how it worked."
