Enemy attack!
The moment the screeching brakes sounded, Li Yexing knew something had happened. The last four trucks were forced to stop along with the lead truck that had broken down.
"What the hell? Why did we stop?" Freeman looked a little panicked. He hadn't realized what had happened yet, but Norman's reaction was much quicker.
After receiving the message that the lead truck had broken down from the radio, he calmly ordered everyone to get out of the truck and take cover behind it, ready to fight back.
Li Yexing released the safety on his AR-15 and got out of the truck behind Norman. This former mercenary surprisingly didn't feel any nervousness in this dangerous atmosphere.
He just looked at the gun in his hand, and at this moment, his mediocre soul and crazy memories seemed to merge completely. With a voice that no one else could hear, he quietly murmured, "God has mercy."
A row of bullets clinked and clanked on the top of the trucks. Li Yexing hid behind the truck with Norman. He judged that this should be a warning shot.
Sure enough, after the gunfire, a voice rang out, "We are an execution team affiliated with the European branch of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. We suspect that your goods have violated relevant United Nations laws and regulations. Now please surrender and accept inspection."
Freeman was still hiding in the truck, and Li Yexing could hear him grumbling as if he was preparing to report the situation to his superiors.
Norman clicked his tongue and gestured tactically to command the team's movement, while shouting towards the dark roadside, "We are local security contractors in Roples, and the cargo in the truck is conventional weapons ordered by local armed forces and other local security contractors in nearby towns. The key to the truck is in the hands of the employer, and we cannot open it until we reach the destination. We hope you can understand and let us pass. After the mission is completed, our superiors can provide relevant materials to the BSAA Europe branch through the government. I don't think your superiors would want you to intervene in the local armed conflict, would they?"
"We have sufficient evidence to prove that your cargo is the UN-prohibited organic biological weapon. Repeat, we have sufficient evidence to prove that your cargo is an UN-prohibited organic biological weapon. Please surrender and accept the inspection. Repeat, please surrender and accept the inspection. If you refuse inspection, we will take mandatory measures against your convoy according to UN law!"
The response from the mountain made Li Yexing frown, and he turned to stare at Norman.
"What the hell did you guys transport here that even BSAA got involved?"
In theory, if he was the original Li Yexing from this world, he would never ask such a question. He would just wait for both sides to talk it out and then engage in a passionate exchange of fire. However, this Li Yexing's soul comes from a world outside of the game, and he knows all too well what organic biological weapons mean. As soon as he thought of the truck carrying the virus in Resident Evil: Vendetta, Li Yexing was hesitant to even fire his gun, for fear of blowing up the canister behind the truck.
Norman looked at Li Yexing, his gaze somewhat complex...although he wore sunglasses, Li Yexing just felt that his gaze must be very complex at this moment.
"Do your own thing." After a long pause, Norman replied in this way. He pushed aside the safety and shouted, "Unfortunately, we couldn't reach an agreement, so I can only..."
With that, he waved his hand, and a flare was shot into the sky and exploded with a bang. In the strong light, vague figures could be seen in the trees on the side of the road.
"Wishing you all a happy life!" Norman shouted with a dead face, and at the same time gave the order over the radio, "Open fire!"
Suddenly, gunfire erupted, and Norman's team fiercely fired at the figures in the trees, while Norman himself was installing something on his gun. Li Yexing widened his eyes and saw that it was a grenade launcher!
"Aren't you afraid of blowing up whatever is inside the truck and leaking it out?!" Based on the attitude of these people, Li Yexing was basically certain that there was an 80% chance that there was some kind of virus or something inside the truck.
Norman turned his head and looked at Li Yexing, who was a little nervous, shook his head and said, "It's explosion-proof, it won't break."
So, you're not denying that there's a virus inside?!
It seemed that Norman had noticed what Li Yexing was worried about, and he suddenly smiled. The smile that blossomed on his dead face looked extremely eerie.
"Don't worry, that's the insurance for this operation, it's a good thing."
You're saying that actually makes me more worried.
Li Yexing began to weigh the pros and cons. He was just a guide, he didn't need to risk his life for this. Although the price offered by the employer was high, a guide was still just a guide.
Couldn't he refrain from participating in the battle? Wasn't it fine to stay away from the battlefield? Wasn't it okay to sneak away when the employer wasn't paying attention? It wasn't that he had no professional ethics, but the test given by this old guy was beyond his scope. Wasn't the first step in entering the world of Resident Evil to fight some zombies and get used to the operation? What was the situation with directly confronting the BSAA?
With a loud bang, Norman fired the grenade launcher. The grenade traced a graceful parabola and exploded in the woods on the side of the road. Then he turned his head to reload and happened to notice Li Yexing's hesitant expression.
"Why are you not shooting?" Norman asked.
"You don't want me to run away, do you?"
Li Yexing replied and thought for a moment. This bald guy probably wouldn't let him go, so he quickly peeked out of cover and fired two shots at the mountain. His expression was serious as if he was ready to sacrifice himself heroically at any moment.
It seemed that the BSAA on the mountain didn't expect the previous peaceful conversation to turn into a battle so quickly. The next moment, they were hit by the grenade launcher.
However, they quickly adjusted their state and started to counterattack. Moreover, their attacks were well-organized, making the security forces of the convoy afraid to show their heads.
One of the security force soldiers attempted to counterattack by sticking his head out, but the next moment, his helmet exploded into a large hole and his brain matter was scattered all over the ground.
"I think I understand why you're not wearing a helmet." Li Yexing sneered.
"There's a sniper," Norman said casually as if it wasn't his own person who died. Li Yexing didn't dare to show his face and just hid behind the truck, silently lighting a cigarette.
"This isn't going to work. They're BSAA. They can call for backup, but we can't." He took a deep drag and then Norman turned his head to look at Li Yexing, who glared back at him fiercely.
Norman was bored and decided to vent his frustration by launching grenades at the BSAA position on the hill. As the flames exploded, Li Yexing quickly leaned out and fired while moving, then took cover behind the third truck to create some distance between himself and the baldy Norman. He still wanted to find an opportunity to escape.
However, things didn't go as planned. Norman quickly squeezed in next to him and stuffed a grenade into the launcher, saying to Li Yexing, "This is the last one."
"What's that got to do with me?" Li Yexing's cold face didn't show any emotion. Norman might not have seen it, or maybe he pretended not to see it. He said to Li Yexing, "We need to find out where that sniper is, otherwise they can drag us out until dawn."
"The truck is all bulletproof, we should just throw away the first truck and drive straight through," said Li Yexing.
"No, we can't throw away the first truck," Norman immediately rejected Li Yexing's suggestion.
"Isn't there insurance on the truck?! Isn't this the kind of situation where it's supposed to be used?! Why are you afraid of throwing it away?" Li Yexing argued.
"Most of the electronic devices on the first truck are malfunctioning. The BSAA must have used some kind of device, and we can't guarantee that they haven't prepared something similar for the rest of the route," Norman explained to Li Yexing.
At that moment, a hand grenade flew toward them. Li Yexing quickly kicked it off the road, but the explosion still made him break out in a cold sweat. He shouted at Norman, "How will we know if we don't try? It's better than being stuck here and wasting time!"
Norman shook his head. "We can't throw away the first truck. The insurance isn't disposable, it's reusable and recyclable...and it's too expensive to waste."
Li Yexing thought to himself, "Damn baldie, I'll kill you motherf*cker!"
After his impotent rage, Li Yexing, as if giving up treatment, poked his head out and fired a few shots in the direction of the gunfire. In his mind, he had already cursed Argo's ancestors eighteen generations and their female relatives, along with Norman who had taken on this job with him.
Another unlucky guy next to them got shot, his shoulder flesh turned inside out and blooming like a flower. He sat on the ground, clutching his wound and yelling, "Ah! I'm dying! I can't go on! I'm bleeding to death!"
Norman stuck his head out, fired two shots, and quickly shrunk back. He turned his head and looked at Li Yexing, who seemed hopeless.
"Now let's talk about the sniper."
"What? Do you have a good idea?"
"I'll have them shoot another illumination round, and then you run from the front of the second and third trucks to draw fire, while I find the sniper and take him out."
Li Yexing's face suddenly became weird. "Are you joking?"
"I'm serious."
"Under the illumination round, running like that, they'll shoot me into a mesh without the sniper even firing a shot."
"No, you won't."
Li Yexing looked at Norman's dead face and, after making sure he wasn't joking, his face changed drastically.
"You bald-headed bastard, I really want to open up your mother's cunt and see if she dropped your brain in there when she gave birth to you."
Norman raised his gun and aimed at Li Yexing.
"Go ahead, I wish you a happy life."
"Heh." Li Yexing spat out the burnt cigarette butt, sneering at Norman, "Do you really think I can't handle you?"
----------------------
Chris frowned as he aimed at the convoy on the road, watching as someone from the security team, who was dressed completely differently from the convoy, occasionally popped out and fired two shots before retreating, feeling like he was playing whack-a-mole.
"These guys are really stubborn," a teammate complained over the radio.
"Don't let your guard down, suppress them. When our aerial support arrives, they will be helpless," Chris instructed his teammates.
Suddenly, a flare flew into the sky, and then he noticed someone who had completely different attire from the convoy's security team. At the moment the flare exploded, accompanied by a bright light, the person ran out from behind the truck, using a rolling and crawling posture to pass through the firepower net between the second and third trucks of the convoy, and then retreated back.
Chris: ???
Li Yexing sat next to Norman, holding his gun and gasping for breath. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and turned to ask Norman, "Did you see clearly?"
Norman didn't answer, he just took off his sunglasses, and Li Yexing could see the embarrassment in his big blue eyes.
"F*ck you!" Li Yexing cursed angrily.
"It looks like there's no other way." Norman said and he casually fired his last grenade and said into the radio, "Freeman, Director Freeman, the situation is out of control. Requesting the release of Vehicle No. 1 and Vehicle No. 5 to release Bear One and Bear Two"
Li Yexing looked at the bald guy with a shocked expression. Since the start of the mission, this bald guy had been constantly refreshing his understanding of him.
Li Yexing called Freeman a couple of times but got no response. Following Norman's gaze, he looked at the second truck and saw that Freeman had become a person with autism, huddled with his head in his arms, as if muttering "you can't see me, you can't see me."
Norman spat, and then rushed towards the truck and kicked Freeman to the ground. He grabbed Freeman's collar and roared at him, then Freeman suddenly snapped out of it, as if he had just been given a shot of adrenaline. He picked up a tablet and frantically tapped at it, and then suddenly with a light hissing sound, the sealed containers on the first and fifth trucks slowly opened, releasing a white gas. The gunfire on the battlefield stopped at that moment.
The misty white vapor enveloped the No. 1 and No. 5 trucks, and as the canisters slowly opened, a huge figure could faintly be seen rising from the mist.
"Chris!" the voice of a BSAA sniper came over the radio. "Can you see that thing, Chris?"
"Yeah, I can see it, clear as day," Chris lifted his night vision goggles, looking at the two huge figures slowly rising from the canister behind the truck. He thought to himself, "This is what you call conventional firepower for selling to thugs and other mercenaries? You call this thing conventional firepower?"
Chris furrowed his brow, "Dammit, ask Kirk, how much longer until we get air support? We need heavy firepower!"
Li Yexing, hiding behind the No. 3 truck, looked at the huge figures slowly rising from the white mist, so surprised that he forgot to breathe. These two things were the "last resort" that the baldie was talking about? As a hardcore player of the Resident Evil series, he knew too well what these things were. Even if burned to ashes, he would still recognize them.
"Motherf*cker! It's a Tyrant!"
