Without the blood obscuring the rest of the organ, the absolute wreck that was her heart muscle was now fully clear for all of it to see. And based on what I could see without having to move it with my hand, I guess the visible parts of it were the only parts that still actually looked like they belonged to a heart.
The stringy insides of Aria's heart were laid bare for me to see; strands of muscle still quivering every so often in an attempt to make itself beat. The muscle itself was still a healthy red, all things considered. Then again, I'll never expect anyone in this world to develop a fatty heart unless they were a noble or king of considerable stature.
Shrugging at my own thoughts, I kept at my impromptu surgery; cleaning and trimming Aria's heart as it gently quivered under my ministrations. My patient gasped and moaned with each snip, but judging from her tone, I could safely say that she wasn't in too much pain as opposed to earlier.
