Capítulo 5: Skills
Strangely, when Onyx leveled up, all of her fatigue disappeared, and even the wounds the level 7 Minotaur inflicted on her were gone. She was even more surprised when she noticed that the scar she had on her arm, where she had gotten bitten by a wolf several years prior, had also healed. "So when I level up, my wounds heal... That's good to know", she said to herself. Since that was the case, she would not need rest and could keep going.
Before continuing her adventure inside the dungeon, Onyx decided to try out her new skills. "Hmm... I leveled up three times and gained three skills. Perhaps I gain a new skill every time I level up ? I also wonder how skill points work...", she pondered. She felt very excited by the idea of using her powers for the first time. "Which one should I try first ?", she thought.
Onyx decided to use the skill that didn't consume any mana points first, since she didn't have a lot of mana and didn't know how to refill her mana. "Shadow Sense", she whispered. Suddenly, her perception of the world around her increased. It felt like a heightened sense of awareness, as if Onyx's perception of the world had expanded beyond what her eyes could see. As she activated the skill, she felt a subtle tingling sensation throughout her body, and her mind became more attuned to the environment around her.
She could sense the presence of beings concealed in shadows, as if their outlines are illuminated in her mind's eye. For example, she spotted a group of goblins hiding in a crevice down below. It was like she had a sixth sense for detecting hidden dangers, allowing her to anticipate attacks and react quickly to threats.
However, after only a few seconds of use, she realized that the skill required a lot of focus and mental energy to maintain, and she had to stop using it as she was overwhelmed by a feeling of nausea. She hoped that, with a little bit more practice, she could use it to navigate dark and dangerous environments with ease, giving her an advantage over any monsters that might be lurking in the shadows. "It's a very useful skill" she said to herself, smirking. In an environment as dark as the Dungeon, being able to detect presences within shadows was a great asset.
She still had two other skills to try out, she moved on to her next skill, "Shadow Concealment". As soon as she used it, she started to blend seamlessly into the shadows, becoming nearly invisible to the naked eye. However, she immediately felt drained, undoubtedly from her Mana being consumed. Using the "shadow concealment" skill felt like merging with the darkness itself. As Onyx focused her energy, she feelt a cool, almost weightless sensation as she sank into the shadows around her. It was as if her body became one with the darkness, and she could move through it effortlessly.
She canceled the skill, fearing she might run out of Mana. Anyways, she needed Mana to use her last skill, Shadow Aura. "Shadow Aura", she whispered, activating the skill. Immediately, her blade blade was imbued with a dark matter, and she could feel its strength and sharpness being enhanced. A dark mist surrounded her hunting knife, and she could feel the power of the shadows flowing through it.
She decided to test it on the corpse of the Minotaur, which she had much trouble piercing during their fight. As soon as the blade came into contact with the dead body, it cut through it effortlessly, like a knife through butter. She also noticed the dark aura seemed to burn the flesh of the dead creature. "This skill is so overpowered !", she thought. "With this, I could probably defeat a Minotaur in a fair fight with relative ease." But she knew she was still miles away from achieving true strength. The kids at the village could probably deal with a dozen Minotaurs each without even breaking a sweat after all. "I will become stronger", she promised herself.
