Chapter 5
Hardly anyone at Scalies was a human. All of the customers and even the workers were dragons. Logan didn't see a single human working here and it made Logan nervous.
"Don't be nervous Logan. The staff here like humans," said Gwendolyn. "I hear they even treat them with more respect than us dragons," Gwendolyn had a little smile spread across her face.
Logan nodded and he wanted scooched closer to where Snowy was sitting. Snowy looked at him. "You are going to like this place, Logan. Don't worry. I will recommend you something great," she said. "I always get the same thing every time."
"What do you typically order here Snowy?" Logan asked.
Snowy chuckled a bit. "Well, I like to get the Scottish fish. That's my favorite," she answered. "The dragons, I don't know how they do it here. But it just melts in my mouth. Its super creamy and it is glazed with this topping I don't know how to comprehend how they make it so good."
Gwendolyn chimed in and said that the Scottish fish was her favorite too. She said she's been ordering that since she was Snowy's age. "It's been my favorite for a while as well," said Gwendolyn. "I either order than or I would get something like the fish plate that they offer here. It's really great, but I'm not sure if you could eat all of it Logan, considering your size."
"Are you Logan?" The host asked. Logan nodded. "Alright, your party is up. Step this way." The host led Logan and everyone else to where they were to be sitting. It turns out that Logan sat down in a quieter part of the restaurant. "Thank goodness, those kids were becoming loud," Gwendolyn thought.
There were many dragons there, but Logan felt fortunate enough to feel like he had more space over here.
Scalies was a total zoo, however with all of the younger dragons around. "I don't understand how dragons could take care of their kids. I have mad respect for them." Logan said to Snowy. Snowy laughed.
Logan picked up a menu, and he covered his face up with it. He felt being gazed upon dozens of pairs of eyes that would continue to look at him with curiosity. Logan didn't know he would make such a presence to captivate the attention from dragons in here. They were interested that a human walked inside of Scalies restaurant. After all, dragons talk to humans every day. Humans and Dragons have lived together for centuries.
"Alright, your waiter will be with you in just a few moments. We're quite busy this evening." The host said. He flashed a toothy grin at Gwendolyn.
The menu that Logan was holding covered him almost entirely. He liked covering his face with it so that no other dragons could see him, but he was surprised at how big the menu was.
"Alright, I think I'm just going to get the Scottish fish," Logan said. "I'm going to go with your idea, Snowy,"
Snowy laughed. "I'm not sure if you're going to be able to eat all of that," she said. "The fish itself is bigger than your head,"
Logan told Snowy that whatever he didn't finish, she'd eat the rest. "Mm, more for me. Thanks!" she purred.
Now that everyone else decided on what to eat. It was time to think about the drinks.
"Wait, they have something called Light furies milk?" Logan said. Logan thought it was peculiar how dragons drink other dragons' milk. But humans do the same thing with drinking cow milk with cereal, however a cow isn't a human while dragons drink other dragons' milk. He thought it was a strange thing to be doing.
Gwendolyn nodded. "Mhm, we find it quite tasty," she answered. "It has a rich taste in protein, and it's better than that cow's milk that you humans like so much. I heard cow's milk is not good for you."
Logan thought that was weird what Gwendolyn told him, but he dismissed it.
Logan figured he'd order a coke to remind himself of being in a human based restaurant. "They don't have that," Gwendolyn said. "If you want something, you should just order water."
Logan figured the water was just fine for him.
The waiter finally came around a little bit longer than everyone anticipated. "Alright, welcome to Scalies. My name is Blueberry and, I'm going to take care of you guys tonight. So, what can I start you guys out with?" The waiter held a pen in her paw, and she sat on her hind legs ready to take orders.
Logan wasn't bothered at all about the waitress arriving a bit late to the table. He was intrigued about how similar they act as if it was a human waiter.
"I'll have the long island tea top-shelf," Gwendolyn said. Gwendolyn rarely drank alcohol except on special occasions or if she needed some time to herself. However, this was one of those special occasions.
Snowy ordered water. Frost ordered juice, as did everyone else.
"Alright, and are you guys ready to order dinner, or do you need a few minutes?" The waitress asked.
"I think we're ready to order. Alright, you guys tell her what you want," Gwendolyn said.
Half of the group ordered Scottish fish because they knew it was the best thing to order. Only Frost, Ivy, and Rico got something else.
"This is fun being together. Thanks, Logan, for taking us out," Frost said.
Everyone else chimed in and said thank you.
Logan blushed. "Wow, I think hanging out with dragons is way cooler than hanging out with people," he thought.
Snowy nudged Logan. "The food always comes out fast," she whispered.
Everyone else at the table was having their separate conversations.
Gwendolyn was speaking to Snowy and Logan. "So, what do you think about Scalies so far?" Gwendolyn asked Logan.
Logan smiled. "I think I would come back here again," he answered.
Ever so slowly, Snowy laid the tip of her tail on Logan's leg. Logan rested his hand on the end of her long tail. Snowy smiled at him warmly. Snowy thought it would be a good time to play around with her human for a little bit, so she makes the choice to squeeze his leg in a teasing and playful manner. Logan nearly squeaked out loud but, he caught himself.
"I wish your father was here. He would love to meet Logan," Gwendolyn said to Snowy. Snowy was a bit distracted while playing around with Logan using her tail under the table, but she tried to resist and keep control of herself with her affections towards him. "Yeah, I don't know why he takes these unnecessarily long business trips," Snowy replied. Her voice had a tone of depression in it, and Snowy tried to hide that the best she could.
Gwendolyn thought for a moment to herself. Her husband has been taking long trips. Sometimes even over a month. She's had her suspicions that he was seeing another dragon but, she dismissed it. He would never do that to her. "Asher would never cheat on me," Gwendolyn thought. "He always tells me that he loves me and the kids. He would never ever hurt me like that."
The food was finally ready. The waiter had struggled to give everyone the food that they ordered with while being careful trying not to drop anything. Logan's Scottish fish was big. "Oh, dear, I should have ordered the smallest one possible," he said, chuckling.
"What did you order?" Logan asked Frost.
Frost smiled. "I ordered Australian salmon. It just melts in your mouth." Frost licked her lips and, she began eating her food without saying anything else. She looked like she was very hungry, and Logan thought that Frost hadn't eaten anything today.
Everyone started eating and making conversation. Logan hesitated to eat for a few minutes. He saw that everyone around him were polite, quiet eaters. Logan
was impressed. He mistook dragons to be messy eaters. "Are you alright?" asked Snowy. "You aren't eating your food, Logan."
Logan assured to Snowy that he was doing okay.
"So, do you like the food?" Gwendolyn asked after Logan decided to take his first bite. Logan nodded with his mouth full. Snowy and Frost were right. It's no wonder why dragon's like Scalies. The food here tasted fresh, and it feels like he was in an upscale restaurant in a place like Paris or New York City rather than being here. The fish that Logan tasted felt like it was made from the finest chefs in the world.
Frost was right. The fish did melt in your mouth. It's no wonder why dragons like Scalies.
Logan scarfed his food which, was ironic.
He couldn't eat all of his food anyway like Snowy predicted. Logan had Snowy finish it for him instead.
"Yeah, I'm going to come back here the next time I go out to eat," he said. "I just hope they don't run out of that Scottish salmon. It seems like they would run of that stuff you know?" Logan was speaking to everyone about his point of the Scottish salmon. "I wonder if you could buy this from the store and make your own," he thought afterward.
Gwendolyn smiled as she looked at Logan and Snowy beside each other. She thought to himself if Snowy had intentions to marry him. But the law says a Dragon and a Human can't marry each other. However, it didn't stop humans and dragons from doing it anyway, and some of them were caught before.
However, she knew there was a loophole in that law. The only way for Logan to become a husband with Snowy is if Logan went through the transformation. "I'm not sure if he'd like that idea." Gwendolyn thought. Snowy knew full well about it. It's a secret that only Dragons knew about. Humans that transformed into dragons had to keep a secret about this transformation process. They cannot tell anyone about it. If they do, then the punishment could compromise many relationships within the nations around the world.
It is only applied if a human loves a dragon so much that they wish to be a dragon to be with them for life and that the secret transformation process can be done.
"Are you guys done?" Gwendolyn asked. Everyone nodded. They were all too full by now, and there was no room for dessert either which everyone wanted but couldn't.
"Could you bring the check?" Gwendolyn said to the waitress. The waitress went to get the bill.
"Can we do this some other time?" Logan asked. "I would like to go out to eat like this again. It was fun hanging out with you guys you know. Just chilling around."
Everyone else loved the idea and, they agreed to do this again sometime in the future.
Logan had more than enough to pay it the bill plus, a tip.
Then, they all sat up and they leave Scalies to walk home.
"Would you guys like some gum?" Gwendolyn said. She started, handing out gum as soon as they walked out the door. Once Logan popped one in his mouth, it tasted weird.
"What type of gum is this?" he asked.
"It's just dragon gum," she said.
Logan thought nothing of it and, he chews it anyway. They dropped Saxor and Frost at home and, then the rest of the others headed back home.
"Oh, that reminds me. You guys have your Halloween costumes?" Gwendolyn said. She opened the door and, they headed into the kitchen.
Suri and Rico both headed into their rooms while everyone else sat at the kitchen table.
"You are going to have a surprise tomorrow morning," Gwendolyn said to Logan.
Logan was a bit confused. Snowy knows what it is.
"Well, I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow," Logan said. He was unsure how to answer.
Ivy sat around for a little bit and, she went to her room. Snowy did too. Gwendolyn and Logan were alone once again.
