Capítulo 40: Chapter 40: Plans and Plants

Cory's POV

Cory searched through the little shop, nearly furious at his struggle. Sweat poured down his back, and his breaths came in heavy rasps.

The shopkeeper eyed him carefully.

"Can I help you find something?" the shopkeeper asked loudly.

"Leave me," Cory commanded, eyes wild.

Cory scooped several herbs into produce bags. He tried desperately not to spill, though he couldn't help his shaking hands.

Lastly, he grabbed a vial of liquid labeled 'Bloodwort' and slammed it on the counter.

As the shopkeeper rang up his total, Cory fished out a wad of cash from his pocket. He was overpaying, but maybe that would make up for the spilled and scattered plant matter all over the shop.

Cory stumbled out to his car. Climbing into the driver's seat, he tore the top from the bloodwort and poured the contents of the vial down his throat. His head collapsed against the headrest.

Slowly, the shaking in his hands steadied.
