When Della went downstairs to go to school the next day, her footsteps faltered as the noise coming from the dining room reached her ears. Without needing to be told, Della already knew that her sister had most likely come home unexpectedly again and was busy talking to their parents. Della clenched her hands into fists as her body always reacted this way whenever she heard her sister's voice. Her hands were shaking. Della's whole body was shaking just because she heard her sister's voice in the morning.
Faced with repeated rejection, Della subconsciously knew that something bad would happen every time she met her sister. Eager as she was, Della left the house without seeing her sister. But the rules for her were very clear. She had to say goodbye to her parents every time she went to school, and her parents were at home.
