Chapter 9: Luffy vs Crocodile

"You alive, Luffy?." Said Sanji as he dragged his Captain out of the hole.

"Those devil fruit powers sure are a pain in the ass."

"Get up, Usopp!." Said Vivi as she and Nami dragged Usopp out of the hole.

"Why can't you swim by yourself? you don't even have a devil fruit?!" Complained Nami.

"Rrgh!." Grunted Zoro as He dragged out Smoker.

"Smoker?, Zoro, why did you bring him out?." Asked Nami.

"Shut up, I didn't want to." Answered an annoyed Zoro.

"We lost a lot of time. Can we still make it in time, Vivi?" Asked Sanji.

"We have to try." Said, Vivi.

"Roronoa!!" Yelled Smoker as he attacked Zoro with his jitte.

"Why did you save me?."

"I was just following orders from my Captain. You don't have to thank me. It was just him being weird." Was Zoro's answer.

"Then, I assume you won't have any complains if I have to complete my duties as a professional here, right?" Said Smoker.

"See? this is our reward for saving a stupid Marine." Said Sanji.

"Where are you, Crocodile!." Screamed Luffy as He regained consciousness.

He then turned around and saw Smoker.

"Whoa!, Smokey. Wanna fight too?!"

"Ahh, it's the Marines!!. Luffy, we need to get out of here." Said Usopp in a panic.

"This way, hurry." A group of Marines was heard approaching.

Smoked sighed.

"Just go…"

"Huh?" Luffy was surprised.

"Only this time, I'll let you get away. Next time we meet, you are a dead man, Strawhat." Said Smoker.

"There they are. The Strawhat crew!" They were spotted by marines.

They all started running away, leaving behind Smoker and the approaching Marines.

"Witch way?." Asked Sanji.

"Alubarna is to the east from here." Said Vivi, remembering the map that Nami showed them.

"Guys, are we going to run all the way to Alubarna?...like how far is that?" Said Usopp, who was already out of breath after running for five minutes.

"There is a stable right? let's just get some horses." Suggested Luffy.

They heard the noise of something big approaching.

"Ah!, there they are!. Hey!!"

They all saw Chopper, riding a gigantic crab.

"A crab!" Exclaimed Usopp

"Chopper!" Called Nami.

"That looks tasty!." Said Luffy with his mouth watering.

"Let's not waste time! Come on let's go." Said, Vivi.

'Maybe if we are lucky we can avoid Crocodile finding us.'

They all got on top of the crap and started to make their way to Alubarna.

"Okay, Here we go!." Said Chopper while pulling the reins.

"Depart!" They yelled with enthusiasm.

They only managed to move for a few minutes when a golden hook grabbed on to Vivi and pulled her away from the rest of the crew.

"Vivi!" They all exclaimed.

"Stop, Chopper!" Said Zoro.

"It's him!!" Screamed Luffy, face filled with rage.

He then extended his arm and grabbed onto the hook, getting dragged along with Vivi.

"Luffy!" They yelled.

"You guys go ahead!, I'll save Vivi, and then we will catch up!" Said Luffy.

Vivi landed ungraciously on the sand face firsts.

"ugg." She grunted as she swallowed a mouthful of sand.

Luffy landed close to her.

"It seems like we go the Princess and an extra." Said Robin.

"Your game has gone far enough, Strawhat. We end it here." Said Crocodile, not looking amused anymore.

"Vivi, stay back, I'll take care of this guy, and then we'll go stop that rebellion. I'll promise." Said Luffy with a serious expression.

Vivi managed to get up and looked at the situation she was in.

'Oh…this is bad. I'm not supposed to be here.'

She now looked genuinely worried. She knew that Luffy was not going to win this fight and only survived with Robin's help. But what about her? can she survive this?

"Leave us, Miss Sunday. I'll take care of this alone." Commanded Crocodile.

Robin seemed hesitant and looked at Vivi.

"You are not going to kill the Princess right? we may need her."

"I said, LEAVE!. Nico Robin." Said Crocodile, looking even more enraged.

Robin gulped in fear but maintained her composure. Then started to walk away.

"What happened to your promise of not calling me by that name? Fine, I'll go ahead to Alubarna."

Crocodile then threw a sand clock on the ground, next to Luffy.

"I was thinking of playing with you for three minutes before killing you."

Crocodile then attacked with no warning, sending his hook towards Luffy.

"Vivi, stay back!." Luffy moved out of the way and prepared his attack.

"Gomu Gomu Pistol!" Crocodile dodged Luffy's attacks by moving his head to one side.

Crocodile then used his ability to turn his legs into sand and moved at great speed toward Luffy, hitting him with his hook.

Vivi thought about running away, after all, there was nothing she could do here, but there was no way Crocodile would let her do that. The situation could not be worse. The only reason Luffy survived was because Crocodile was sure He was going to die when He left. He never suspected Robin of betraying him.

'But what are the odds of both Luffy and I being left half dead, just to be helped by Robin?...maybe He will take me as a hostage, after all, I am still a Princess. And then Luffy will have a chance to survive…or maybe…'

She tried to play several scenarios in her head but none of them looked good, she did not prepare for this scenario.

Luffy has zero chance to beat an awakened sand logia user in the middle of the desert with no knowledge of haki. She doesn't even have some water to give him. Luffy has a small cantine on his neck, but that would not be enough.

'But we have to try...'

The fight continued and Luffy was making his move.

"Bazooka!" He landed a strong blow on Crocodile's chest. And then followed up with a downward kick.

"Axe!"

Crocodile seemed to have been blown into smithereens and his body was nowhere to be seen.

"Luffy!, listen to me. You won't be able to hurt him with your firsts. He is a logia user, his body is made of sand."

"You mean He's like Ace? Then how do I damage him?"

"You may be able to compact the sand by using water"

"Com...what?." Luffy made a confused face.

"Just put some water on your firsts!"

Luffy nodded. "I don't get it, but ill try." He took the cantine that was hanging on his neck and slashed some water on his hands.

Said Crocodile while appearing behind Luffy. "Is pointless, no matter what you do."

"You asshole." Luffy prepared another attack.

"No matter how you fight. You will never- "

Crocodile was interrupted as Luffy landed a punch on his face, sending him backward.

"Hah, what were you saying?" Mocked Luffy.

Crocodiles stood up with a small bruise on his cheek and looked even angrier.

"That little trick won't be enough. You and I are in completely different leagues. I will show you the difference!."

Crocodile brought his fist in the air.

"Luffy!, you have to dodge that!." Warned Vivi.

"Desert Spada!" Said Crocodile as he lowered his hand in a slashing motion. A thin wave of sand was created and started to move at incredible speed toward Luffy.

Luffy manage to jump away, but then looked in horror at the outcome of the attack. The wave created by Crocodile had left a long gash in the desert wherever it passed.

"Well spotted, you wouldn't have just said 'ouch' if you were hit by that." Said Crocodile.

"What the-!, the desert was just cut in half! " Exclaimed Luffy.
