I took off in the direction of Clare’s voice, but something felt wrong to me. Not just in the way that she was speaking, but in the way her voice sounded. For an insane moment, I almost thought that her voice was entirely in my mind.

But that couldn’t be possible. There was no mate bond between us… There should be no mate bond between us.

But I was a seasoned warrior, and I knew that there were things that happened that were out of the ordinary. And her father had already indicated that there was more to this than meets the eye.

I heard her moan again. And I knew what she was doing. That wasn’t pain, it was the unmistakable sound of pleasure.

I felt anger build in me, and I knew that I only had one option.

I reached for her in my thoughts. I had no idea if it was going to work, but there was nothing for me to lose.

‘Stop this now!’ I screamed at her, and I felt her immediate shock and confusion as she stopped.
