Marcus Cutler POV:
We couldn’t take Julia to a regular hospital. No matter how many people she had influence with or how many had been left with an imprint, the fact that she had survived her injuries at all would raise too many questions.
Fortunately for both of us, Rob had prepared for this possibility. He made it back shortly after the attack and helped me bring Julia to the base the Inquisition had set up.
That base turned out to be collection of storage units they were renting.
We got Julia into unit they had retrofitted as a clinic, but then we were forced out so the team’s medic to get to work on her. That work might only be removing the metal fragments from her heart and leaving her body to do the rest, but they still insisted on privacy while they worked.
Rob and I were left waiting outside with another Inquisitor. They weren’t someone I recognized but judging by the way they kept scowling at me, they knew who I was.
