Marcus Cutler POV:
The first thing I noticed as I woke up was a familiar smell; fresh chocolate chip cookies. Opening my eyes, I found myself gazing up at an unfamiliar ceiling. Turning my head, I found a plate of cookies sitting on a coffee table within arm's reach. What really caught my attention though was Julia sitting in the chair on the far side of the table.
She looked … different somehow. Beautiful, but it was as though she was surround by a dark radiance if that makes sense.
As I tried to sit up, a wave of dizziness washed over me.
“You shouldn’t try to move until you get your strength back,” Julia advised me. “I made the cookies myself. They should help a bit.”
I ignored the cookies and what Julia was saying. “Where am I?” I asked instead.
Julia leaned back in her chair. “This is my home, Marcus,” she replied. “The one you were so interested in finding.”
Despite the dizziness, I managed to sit up on my second attempt. “What am I doing here?”
