Julia Locke POV:
I kicked off my heels as I walked through the front door of my house. As I walked to my living room, I pulled out the ties holding my braid together to let my hair unwind as I flopped down on my sofa. I lay there gazing up at my ceiling feeling … not right.
And that troubled me because I should have felt excellent.
I had fed twice this evening, taking enough blood to sustain me for days. I should feel energized and rejuvenated, but as still felt as blah as I did when I woke up.
Maybe the issue wasn’t that I hadn’t fed anymore, but who I had fed from.
Marcus was a change of pace, and not exactly a nice one. It had been well over seventy years since I’d had a run in with a vampire hunter. The encounter shouldn’t have rattled me. I’d seen Marcus for what he was the instant I laid eyes on him, and I learned quickly that he was no threat. I shouldn’t be feeling upset over what happened.
