Ronnie’s POV

I lift my head from my desk when I hear a knock on my office door. Max pops his head inside.

“You okay? You haven’t answered any of my messages.” He taps his fingers on the door frame; it’s a nervous tick of his.

I sit back in my chair and sigh. “The kid grew balls.”

Max walks in and sits in one of the chairs on the other side of my desk. His dirty blond hair looks like he used his fingers as a comb this morning and he has enough facial hair along his jaw to not have trimmed it in two days. I can tell he probably didn’t sleep much with the dark circles under his gray eyes.

“What’d he do?” Max asks, sitting forward with his elbows on his knees.

“He confessed his feelings and kissed her. And I don’t know how to react to it. I’m seriously at a loss.” I rub my forehead, feeling a headache coming on.

We sit in silence thinking about my predicament.
