Today is my birthday ! I'm now one year old.
I now know I was born the 29th February 1980, pretty funny birthdate. And this is why the four of us are celebrating despite today being only the 28th.
And I say four because my little sister was born a few days ago on the 13th of February. Thankfully, it was not a Friday. Because apparently being born a Friday 13 is a real curse in the magical world. There's even spells to delay the birth for an entire day.
Anyway, my sister was named Luna, as expected, and she's super cute.
My parents are quite lucky, as like me, she is pretty silent and don't cry too much. Thank god for small mercy because her crib is just next to mine.
During the passing year I started learning a lot of things regarding this world culture since my father is always telling me stories. He also tells me lots of conspiracy theories, but it's still interesting because he also gives me the baseline of why he think they are true. And boyo, some things are downright scary.
The Wizengamot is completely and utterly corrupted, and led by a bunch of hyena. Reinforcing my decision to avoid politics. I also think I know at least one reason that made Luna a bit strange during canon. I mean, who tells conspiracy theory to a one year old baby as bedtime stories ? Not that I'm complaining but still... Not cool for my little sister future state of mind. Especially since daddy dearest doesn't believe in censure and thus gives all the details.
Another thing to note this year, my legilimency skill has awaken. I read the surface thoughts of every person when I look in their eyes. My mother realised it since she has some rudimentary occlumency shields apparently, not that it stops me from reading her. She just knows it.
My father was quite happy I had a magical gift, but my mother was not. Apparently natural legilimens tends to become distrustful of authority figures since adults often lies, and they realise it. They also have a harder time to make friends since no one likes to have someone poking in their head, and I don't think knowing what people really think about you when they are a kid is good for your mental health. Also, It's a skill that apparently cannot be turned off without a lot of training so the adults can't just tell kids not to use it. I'll have to see if I really can't control it's activation. I do have the time to train anyway.
"We just have to always tell him what we think and never lie to him. And regarding his potential distrust of strangers, and more importantly people in authority position.... Is it really a bad thing ? I'm sure he'll find some people that are sincere enough in the future, he doesn't need to befriend the entire world." That was dad's answer to the problem. Pandora was floored when she heard this.
The only thing I had not expected is that all natural legilimens need to be registered at the ministry of magic before they turn eleven.
I also started working on my occlumency since two month ago. I don't want nor need wizarding book on the subject since I'm pretty sure giving their lack of imagination it would be hogwash anyway.
So I try to see what I could do by myself and it's incredible. Occlumency had much more potential than I first expected. Originally I took the skill to prevent mind reader to fuck with me (especially Snape and Dumbledore) but there is so much more to it.
The day I used legilimency for the first time was a trip I tell you, because it's also the day my occlumency activated. How do I know ? Because it completely changed the way my mind functioned. Every single thing I imagine is now lifelike.
For example, if I tell you to imagine Harry potter shaking your hand, you'll easily be able to. You have an idea of his appearance and you know how you look. Your brain will do the rest. But it's still a bit blurry, not like if you see the real thing. Me ? Completely real.
I can watch movies inside my brain without a single trouble, and I can modify things that do not please me. It's completely surreal.
Furthermore, my memory has become incredible. It also encompass every movies/books/images I saw in my last life. It did give me a better idea of the man I was before, or at least the place I went.
So I now know what most of western Europe's tourist sites looks like, as well as the one in South Africa, Japan, and Argentina.
But to go back to occlumency, I'm also able to easily organise my mind. The fabled mindscape, or mind palace. It takes time since I have a buttload of memories, but I don't have much to do aside training my body to move as I want, and using my vocal cords. It's also a way to slow what I call my 'baby progress' without wasting time. I don't mind doing things faster than is expected from an average baby, but not too much either. A walking and fluently talking baby at one year old is creepy, and possibly dangerous in a world of magic. It's a true possibility that my parents would think about possession.
So I reinforce and organise my mind in the meantime. I decided to make my landscape based on the myth of Avalon, with a magnificent castle in the middle. So I have a beautiful and healthy landscape full of grass, forests, pure lakes, etc... I also put some 'guardians' like fairies, dragons, and lots of other mythical creatures.
Well, at least that's what anyone poking my head would see. In truth, the castle is just pretty with nothing to find inside. My memories are in a bunker in the basement modelled after the 'fallout' video games. And the defence are automated turrets and the like hidden inside the walls and roof.
I still took the time to make every memories into a book, and organized it into a giant library inside. The harder part was actually finding an efficient sorting way.
Lastly, I also think I can train myself to use parallel thoughts. Not hundred percent sure yet, but I'll work on it. It would certainly be useful in the future.
Thank you for reading !
