They strolled into his library, and he shut the door behind them.
"What's wrong, Leia? Did they touch you? If they did, tell me and-"
"No, big brother. This is not about me. It's about you." Leia shook her head at him, and a confused expression appeared on his face.
"Brother, they know that you hired a caregiver-"
"So what if they know?" He asked.
"Brother, you and I know that you do not need a caregiver. You're a vampire prince and a hybrid at that. Being blind can never hinder you from doing anything. You're more capable than someone who can see, so they're as perplexed as I am as to why you needed a caregiver."
"However, the only difference is that they are planning something terrible. I do not know what, but they are planning to use her to execute whatever plan they are conjuring. So I suggest you fire her. Please brother, let her go or she will cause you problems."
She pleaded, and a soft breath exited Valerio's nose.
A half smile formed on his face, and he pulled Leia into a warm hug.
"Don't worry, I will be fine. Do you really think that they can harm me?" He inquired, and Leia raised her head to look at him.
"I know, brother, but still. I don't want anything to happen to you. You are the only person I have left." She started to sob, and Valerio gently caressed her hair.
"Don't worry, I won't ever leave you, okay? I promised to protect you, so I will." He beamed at her, and Leia drew back from the hug.
"Promise." She asked with her pinky out, and Valerio chuckled.
"I promise." He took her hand in his and interlocked his pinky with hers.
No matter what he has gone through, his little sister was the only one who could witness this side of him.
"Okay, I will go now." She said this and turned to leave, but Valerio stopped her with a frown on his face.
"Leia, you can't go out now. It's late. Stay and return tomorrow, okay?" He implored, but Leia shook her head at him.
"Brother, we are at our peak during the night, so even if any measly human were to try to touch me, I can defend myself. Besides, I have to return, so they won't suspect anything, especially Logan, okay?"
She smiled warmly at him and walked out of the study.
She proceeded out of the mansion and quickly boarded a cab.
Valerio sighed softly, not sure why he was feeling worried.
He turned to Everly, who was seated in the living room.
"Everly."
He called, and she quickly stood up from the couch.
"Yes, Sir Avalanzo." She answered, and he reached out his hand to her.
"Let's go to my room."
He said to her, and together they made their way upstairs and into his room.
She shut the door behind them, and Valerio walked to sit down on the couch.
He crossed his legs and took a deep breath before proceeding to speak.
"Do you want to quit working as my caregiver?" He asked, and confused by the question, Everly creased her brows.
"Huh? I never requested one, so... why the query?" She answered his question with a question, and Valerio pinched between his brows.
"Alright, then I will take that as a no. But that also means that you will have to listen and do everything I tell you to do."
He raised his head to look at her, and not quite liking where this was going, Everly narrowed her eyes at him.
"Is…everything okay?" She asked, and Valerio stood up from the couch.
He walked towards her and stopped when they were only two inches apart.
"I do not want you to answer anyone else except me. Once you step out of this mansion, no matter who it is that is calling you, don't answer. Just go straight for what you went out for and return safely, you understand?" He asked.
Everly scrunched her brows still quite perplexed.
"I don't understand. Is something going on?" She inquired with a bit of apprehension visible in her eyes, and Valerio gritted his teeth in annoyance.
"Just listen to me. You don't have to know everything. But if you do want to be safe, then listen to me and do as I say, understand? No more questions."
He plopped back down on the couch and threw his head back in exhaustion.
Everly stared at him, and unable to overlook the fact that something was definitely wrong, she bit her lower lip in worry.
"Should I fill the tub for you?" She asked, and he waved his hand at her.
"Yes, go ahead."
_____________
The cab arrived at the destination, and Leia stepped down.
She paid the driver, and once he drove off, she proceeded to enter the mansion, but she had yet to take a step forward, when, out of nowhere, two men clad in black suits grabbed her and began to pull her away.
"Let me go!" She yelled.
To avoid any kind of trouble, one of the men covered her mouth.
"Keep quiet." He glared at her, but determined to save herself, Leia bit his hand and managed to free herself when he hissed in pain.
"You little!!!" He growled in fury and rushed after her, managing to get a hold of her again.
Leia struggled to fight him off, but because he was way stronger and older than her as well, he managed to hold her still.
"Say still!!" He scowled at her, but Leia, who wouldn't listen, struggled furiously to save herself.
"Brother! Big brother!" She shouted, wishing Valerio was there at that moment, but knowing that she was wishing for the impossible, deep fear flashed in her eyes.
"Let me go!" She fought, and now realizing that it was impossible to shut her up, the unknown man punched her heavily in the face, immediately knocking her out.
