The dim orange bulb that was hanging on the ceiling was giving off a radiance of coziness to the eyes. She saw a spiral staircase in this confined and crowded area. Even the steps on those stairs were occupied by random unknown things.
'Do I need to study about these poisons too?' Yanarym thought. 'If it's deadly, maybe I could use them on my enemies.'
Guide-sama: "Poisons are deadly, Yanarym. There is no if."
On the floor were papers that were piled up to the average height of a person. Books and questionable-looking stuff were scattered everywhere. She took a step forward to the counter and she was making some squeaky noises because of the rotten wooden floor. She also saw a snake—
Was that a snake's skin?
'Why is there some snakeskin on the floor? It looks big too. No, that thing has freaking feet! It's an unknown reptile! Is it hiding behind the clutters?' Yanarym did not hate snakes, she was more indifferent to insects that had too many legs… special mention to the giant spiders.
"Where are the poisons extracted from plants?"
An old man who was wearing casual ragged clothes that seemed to be watching over the store turned to look at Yanarym and eyed her from head to toe.
He returned his disinterested eyes to the newspaper.
"I need them," Yanarym added and placed the two gold coins she had over the counter.
"What kind of plant?" The old man asked stoically and did not pay her much attention.
"Anything… Everything you have."
"I don't think two gold coins is enough, Young Miss."
"I'll take what you can give me."
The old man stared at her for seconds, then pointed to a shelf a few steps away from Yanarym.
"Those are extracts from the local poisonous plants in this region. You can either take ten vials of the blue one, or five vials of the green one. The higher that shelf of the vial, the more expensive it gets."
Yanarym quickly calculated the cost in her mind. Poison extracts from the plants were not a necessity for her, she had Eriela supplying her exclusive and premium class.
"How about adeuzo, how much is it?" The old man who was giving her a poker face since she came suddenly raised a brow. "Do you have… it?"
"That would cost you a fortune, Young Miss." He returned his poker face.
'That means he has it, good.'
"How much?"
"Fifty grams, ten gold coins." He said nonchalantly.
"What? Why is it so expensive?"
He ignored her question; he was a lot more fixated on the paper he was reading.
'He is no good as a salesperson. That's why this shop looks on the verge of bankruptcy.'
"Hey, old man. Let's make a deal," Yanarym brushed up her hoodie and almost took off her glasses and wig.
This place was so humid, her sticky and annoying sweats have been already annoying enough.
This old geezer was trying to swindle her non-existent gold coins! Ten gold coins for fifty grams? What was she? Pooping golds?!
'You could make that poker face of yours stuck up. You can't scam me.'
Guide-sama: "Adeuzo is really expensive, Yanarym."
'This expensive? This much?!'
Guide-sama: "I'm not sure."
It was reasonable to be expensive because it was a newly discovered element that could be used as a poison. It was tasteless, odorless, and colorless. Unlike arsenic, it could not be detected, at least for now.
It was efficient and lethally utilized in poisoning someone without any suspicions. It was popular in Vortrion.
"A deal?" The old man said and moved his hands to get back to reading a newspaper or something. "I'm not interested."
"What is your sales status in this shop? Do you even have customers?" The old man did not answer her. Yanarym pressed her lips together. "Adeuzo is not popular in this country, I bet you don't sell that much."
The old man remained impartial, "If you aren't gonna purchase anything, leave."
"I'll buy a kilo of adeuzo per month. Sell it to me for a hundred gold coins." Yanarym said with a brazen tone and a huge grin on her lips, she was catching the old man's evasive eyes.
"A kilo for a hundred? Do you think I don't know math, kid?"
"One-hundred fifty. Sell it to me at wholesale price, old man," Yanarym bargained.
"No. If you want a kilo, buy it for two hundred gold coins."
Yanarym rolled her eyes and made a face.
"You won't have another customer like me, old man. I'm telling you. I'll buy a kilo per month. It's a win-win for us. Adeuzo is not so popular in this country, I'll bet that I'm the only person asking you for that poison."
The old man froze and seemed to be wavering.
"One hundred ninety-five," he said.
"One hundred fifty." Yanarym widened her triumph smirk.
"One hundred ninety."
"One hundred forty."
"..."
"One hundred ninety."
"One hundred forty."
"One hundred eighty."
"One hundred thirty."
"That's not how you do transactions, kid. Don't keep bringing your price down! One hundred seventy-five!" The old man began to become invested in the deal they were making. He was not even certain why he was provoked, but he wanted to win this bargain.
Yanarym's gonna win this trade though.
"We're making a deal. Take it or leave it, one hundred thirty per kilo!"
"It's not a deal, kid. You are bargaining with me."
"It's a deal, old man. You are benefitting from this as well."
"Fine! One hundred sixty."
"Fine, one hundred twenty!"
"Argh…"
"What?"
"All right. One hundred-fifty, one kilo per month. However, you have to pay three months in advance."
"What is this— A rent? Why is there an advance payment?"
"Do you want it or not?"
Yanarym paused for a second.
"All right. Deal."
"It's good doing business with you, kid."
"Yeah, give me venoms too. The strong one. For starters, give me a sample of adeuzo and keep these gold coins, I'll be back tomorrow."
"I don't know what you do, but if you are planning to poison the entire capital tell me so I could live."
"Heh." Yanarym just laughed.
