Selene’s heart sinks. The last thing she wants to do is turn back. She’s finally tasted freedom for the first time in her life and she can’t give it up now. If they go back to the village, there’s a good chance the Elders will find them. There’s no telling what will become of them if that happens. Onyx can’t protect his pack if he’s banished, and Selene doesn’t know what the Elders would do with her.
As much as she disagrees with Onyx, wherever he goes, she will follow. Her attachment to him is stronger than her will to leave. Before she’s able to voice any of her concerns, Sparrow chuckles from next to her.
“I applaud your desire to protect your people, but unfortunately you have been ordered to continue on your journey,” Sparrow says. “These eggs are delicious, I taste mushrooms in here but I don’t see any.”
“We cooked mushrooms last night with dinner,” Selene explains. Before she’s able to finish her thought, Onyx interrupts her.
