"Hey! Nice to meet you too miss Danvers... Oh and you can call me y/n by the way." I smiled while shaking her hand. She seemed somewhat familiar. Maybe I've met her in before? I don't think I ever broke into cat&co though. So it wouldn't have been from there.
"Please call me Kara" she said while sitting down. She let out a long sigh and took off her jacket and bag. Right at that moment the waitress came over to take our orders. We both got some weird type of coffee, I didn't know what it was since I didn't really have time to look at the menu thing, but Kara told me it was pretty good. It had a free pastry with it so I didn't complain.
"So I discovered your artwork like a month ago and since then I'm obsessed! You're such an amazing artist. I immediately thought of you when they got the idea of the art special!" The blonde spoke. Her eyes lit up in excitement.
"Thanks, that means a lot." I smiled while my cheeks turned red. Of course I had to fucking blush again. I wasn't used to the recent attention my art had got, so it was still weird receiving compliments from strangers. Being an awkward idiot at times didn't help either.
"How did you get started?" She asked while getting her notepad and pen out.
"It just started out as a way of expressing my feelings and opinions. Just a hobby, nothing special, but then I thought why not let people see it. Maybe it would make them think twice about certain things or issues. There are lot's of things going on in National City that never get addressed, or they rarely do." I answered as the waitress handed me the coffee. "thank you" I muttered quickly.
"Do you plan on doing bigger art projects in the future?" Kara asked curiously, looking up from her notes.
"Yeah, if I got the opportunity that would be great. But bigger projects also cost more, so I think I'll have to stick with my smaller business for a little while longer. I still need to be able to pay my bills. Living here in the city center isn't cheap either, but it gives you a lot more opportunities." I replied.
"Maybe after we've published your article, you'll get more opportunities! Like collaborations with bigger companies." The blonde said. "At least I hope so... I'll try my best to write a great article" she smiled at me.
"Yeah I hope so too, but I would've never even imagined a big media outlet publishing an article about my art. Especially Cat&co. So that means a lot is possible."
"What do you mean by especially Cat&co?"
"Well I once critiqued your boss, Catt, in one of my artworks so..."
"The one with the big cat squishing people under its paws? I always thought it looked oddly familiar."
"yeah, that one." I giggled.
"I didn't tell her about that one so let's keep that a secret until the article is published." She whispered smiling.
"By the way I brought some of my newer unpublished works if you'd like to add some of those in there..." I said, pointing at the green map that laid next to me.
"Wow that's awesome! So I'm the first to see them?" She asked excitedly.
"Nope my friend and her cat Muffin were first, but you'll be the third." I smiled as I opened it.
She stared at all of the artwork in awe, and asked me the meaning behind every single print, but at the last one she seemed shocked. It was a super girl print, which I didn't intend to bring with me. My friend must've shoved it in there, because she was complaining that I didn't want to bring it with me.
"Eh what's that?" She asked.
"That's ...eh..supergirl." I spoke, as she stared at it in confusion.
"I know... but why is she wearing a blindfold? Why is she the bad guy in this?" She asked.
"Super girl only sees the actions people take, so she fights those. However she doesn't always see that some of those people have good intentions. She never goes after the actual criminals sitting on bags of money that shouldn't be theirs. She's a little ignorant... Sometimes she goes after people who have no choice but to live that lifestyle." I answered.
" So you're defending criminals? Instead of a woman who risks her life fighting crime?" She asked looking visibly upset.
"Ehm no in my eyes the girl is not a criminal. And I'm just saying supergirl acts rather impulsively sometimes without knowing the situation." I answered.
"illegal is illegal." She spoke in a cold tone.
"Yet people kill our planet and 'steal' money from the less-fortunate, but what they do is legal. Tobacco is bad for your health and weed has health benefits but the second is the illegal one... It being legal or not doesn't mean anything." I said.
"You've got a point there... but still she tries to do good." She spoke.
"I know, and I think she's amazing for catching actual criminals. Some of them just aren't the bad people they seem to be." I spoke. "But don't worry, I wasn't planning on publishing that print, since people might interpret it wrong. I don't hate supergirl, it's quite the opposite. I admire her for what she does. She's an amazing woman, and I'd love to talk to her one day."
She wasn't frowning anymore now, and the smile got back. Luckily, because it was a bad idea to piss of a journalist. One bad article could ruin my art career. We kept chatting for a while, even after the interview and it seemed like we had a lot in common, I wondered if Kara didn't need to go back to work, but she just kept on talking.
"I think I've met you before, is that possible?" I asked her.
"I don't thi..."
Suddenly my phone buzzed cutting Kara off. I rarely got called, except for scams maybe, since no one except for my one friend actually called me. I looked over to see that I had 17 missed calls and a 22 texts.
It was her.
Shit. That didn't seem good. She probably lost her cat again... Something always had to come up, when things were going well...
"Hey uh Kara, I'd love to stay, but my friend keeps calling me, I think she needs help with something, probably her cat again. It was nice meeting you though! I'm sorry for leaving so abruptly." I spoke standing up.
She seemed disappointed that I already had to go, but she quickly pulled out her phone.
"Can I get your number? .... eh for.... business reasons of course! We can stay in contact that way. And maybe like... get some coffee again some time... The coffee doesn't need to be business related off course... eh yeah..."
"Sure" I smiled typing in my number. "See you soon!"
"Bye! See you soon hopefully!" She smiled.
"Bye Kara, it was nice meeting you!" I replied as I turned around and quickly made my way out.
I ran to Dinah's place as fast as could. People must've thought I was some crazy woman, because people were staring.
I really hope it was just the cat and not something worse...
"Y/n FINALLY!" Dinah yelled pulling the frontdoor open wide.
"Hey DJ what's wrong?!" I questioned.
"I'll explain everything inside." She pulled me inside.
"Is it that bad?" I asked.
"I think it is, we need to do something about it. I found something when i hacked into Luthercorp." She said. "I just knew something was wrong..."
Hacked? Wait a minute...
"I thought you didn't do things like that anymore?! We stopped that didn't we? Dinah, I told you it was dangerous. I don't want you to spend your life in a jailcell or worse!" I said. "Luthercorp is one of the most heavily protected companies in this city."
"I knew you'd disapprove Y/n, but what's going on there isn't good. The CEO Lena Luthor is planning something." She spoke.
