Capítulo 7: Chapter 5: The Forgotten Temple

The boy slowly awoke, but he made no noise. It was a habit to make not a sound as he awoke. But he was confused.

Where was he?

It wasn't his room.

It was easy to tell, it was bright.

His room was dark... always dark.

Until 'they' came for discipline. His mind blanked for a second, his body locking up at the thought before it moved on. It was better to not dwell on those thoughts. He was better. He listened, obeyed now.

For a moment he thought to remember what happened before he arrived in this golden room, but he didn't dwell on such thoughts.

It was better not to think.

His upper body rose as he stood up, looking around the room. Most would be interested in the sights around, the flowing water and gold, but not the boy, his eyes stayed dull as they finally looked in the direction of the only other person in the room.

It was but a moment when his eyes looked upon the beauty of the person before him, though they still didn't change from the monotone dead ever present. What he did do was lower his head in submission, his eyes looking towards her feet.

He MUST keep his eyes lowered.

Upon her throne the woman's eyebrow rose in slight surprise, her bored expression shifting to interest. It wasn't usual to see one so submissive, not in the devil race. She could tell it was an engraved response as well.

Neither of them spoke, the woman wanting to know how long it would take before the boy spoke. But as they reached the 5thhour, the boy's body as stiff as a statue having not moved an inch, that she realized what she was dealing with was... much more interesting.

A small smirk played upon her perfect lips as she tilted her head.

"How interesting for one to be so broken."

The boy still said nothing, his eyes locked upon her legs, gaze dead.

The smile grew wider.

"Do you understand what I am saying?"

The boy still didn't reply.

"Happiness...Pain... Mother.... Warmth... Father... Son...Boy."

Finally, a reaction, his head came up ever slightly at the words but once again moved down.

The woman uncrossed her legs as she rested her delicate hand on her cheek, her mind working through what little information she had. The smile on her face got a little wider, it was such fun, almost like a riddle figuring out what was going on with the little devil boy.

Though it was clear what had happened by now and as a mother herself, though a long time ago, it did sadden her somewhat. Her mind drifted for a moment, which was another hour or two, the concept of time long lost to one such as herself.

When she came back to the present, her smile still hanging from her lips, did she confirm her thoughts. One second, she was in front of the boy, the next she was behind him. The boy's eyes could only widen fractionally as one of her gentle hands caressed his back. It trailed from one shoulder to the other, slightly ruffling the nape of his neck as it brushed by; her lips whispering a word next to his ear.

"Discipline."

The boy snapped to attention, his body reflexive in its response and it straightened out. The woman tilted her head once more as she leaned back her eyes narrowing.

"ohh my.... how about..."

She leaned in again.

"Obey."

The boy nodded slowly but did nothing else. The woman tilted her head once more as she rotated around the boy, walking in front of him. The boy didn't react as his eyes caught sight of her divine form, he stared ahead, dead.

Raising her hand slowly the woman tapped on the shoulder of the boy, the bones shattering on contact. The boy made no noise, and the woman didn't continue, the smile on her face dampened.

She was right, her thoughts confirmed, it was sad... Despicable really what had happened to one so young, but nothing new in the long history of the world. There is no worse fate than being subject to the emotions of humans.

With a click of her fingers the shattered shoulder returned brand new, a slight twitch of the boy's eye the only tell that he was surprised by how quickly the pain had left him. He didn't know what pain was in particular, he just knew what it felt like, to have that feeling suddenly disappear had produced a new feeling. One that he had never felt before.

The boy didn't dwell on this feeling for long as he returned to his default state, the feeling quickly disappearing. The woman could read all these expressions as they passed through his dull eyes; she starred at his face closely for one last moment before reappearing on her throne.

Once again, she started to contemplate on what she should do with the young devil, to keep or to kill. It had been a long time since she had something to relieve her boredom, but with one so broken, what entertainment could they bring? Again, another day passed as she retreated into her thoughts, the boy had not moved once more.

Finally, she made the decision to keep the boy alive, the deciding factor, an almost long forgotten feeling. One she hadn't felt since her last son had passed. A motherly instinct that hadn't stirred in millennia appeared as she focused on the boy once more.

'After so many years, it might be...fun, raising another child, though he is now trapped here with me. I can find much entertainment in the 10,000 years it takes for him to expire.'

With her mind made up, numerous thoughts on what she would have to do to raise such a child appeared, there was a lot of work ahead. The woman realized that the boy before her did not know how to speak, his grasp of basic meanings and understandings probably non-exsistent outside of a select few words.

She could teach him English, though her understanding of the modern equivalent was out by a few hundred years or so, ever since 'he' had faded. Was it a denotation of his manipulation and schemes that she felt a slight twinge of sadness for the one that had locked her here?

Yes, it was.

Though she still felt pleasure the moment she realized that he had finally died. Though he was the only one that talked to her, or even knew she was here after so many years. Too bad it was her own presence that tied her to this place. Even with 'his' death she could not leave.

But she had let her mind wander again and another few hours had gone by. She would first teach him English, and then Latin. After that she could teach him any other language that crossed her mind.

Alongside this she would fix his body, though his mind was a possible lost cause, it was yet to be seen what would happen after a few years with her tender care. The woman became giddy as the rush of excitement for doing something different, anything different.

The smile on her face returned as she crossed her legs once more. She spoke once more as she relaxed into her throne, the next 10,000 years set with her new pleasure.

'OH I can't wait till he reaches the rebellious stage. OH I hope he does reach it, he's a bit too submissive, well that can't be helped, I guess. It's always fun to show them who is their true queen.'

"Listen boy, for you have been blessed. For I, Goddess Ishtar, 'Queen of the heavens' shall raise you, care for you... and you will entertain me."

Ishtar's smile grew wider as the boy continued to stare forward, her boredom hopefully solved for the next few millennia.

Notes:

You know I really wanted to do this chapter this week because I love the idea for this story. I had it such a long time ago and really want to continue with it, it's just hard to research and find the time to get everything I need to do it properly. For instance, if I continue this story, I have to do a lot of research around religions for characters to use, what aspects they have etc. It takes a lot of time. Something I don't have right now.

Saying that I do try and avoid mentioning too many histroical facts in this novel, mainly because I do what to create a 'new' history around some of the gods that will appear. DxD has a multitude of historical changes to characters that appear, from memory anyway. Which gives me more leeway to work with.

Finally, after this chapter, I'm sure some of you can figure out where I want to go with this Novel, if the name wasn't a giveaway. Yes, Ishtar is the main girl. Yes, she looks the same as Fate (Make it easier). No, she isn't the same from fate, I can make her act however I like because this is dxd and fanfic.

Zevren out.
