86% Welcome to the Danvers Family / Chapter 86: 86. Fort Rozz

Capítulo 86: 86. Fort Rozz

October 21, 2017 (pregnancy week 33)

Saturday morning, Alex got a call from Sam while they were eating breakfast.  “Good morning, Sam, what’s up?”  She had a feeling she already knew what was coming, but she was going to let Sam ask anyway.

“So, I have this dilemma,” Sam started off.  “Er-  I’m sorry, Alex, good morning.  How are you?”

“I’m good.  Spit it out.  What’s up?” Alex chuckled.

Sam sighed.  “Well, Mrs. Quellar was supposed to babysit Ruby today, but she has a family emergency, and now she can’t do it.  I have a work trip I have to go on.  Is it possible for you to watch her?”

That was basically what Alex was expecting.  “Well, Douglas has the kids today because everyone is working, so you should ask him.”

“OK, yeah, I knew that, but I wanted to check with you first,” Sam replied.

“It’s fine by me,” Alex shrugged, even though she knew Sam couldn’t see it.  “He knows the rules.”

“OK,  I’ll give him some money, so he can take them out somewhere,” Sam informed her.  “I know they like the arcade.”

“That sounds like a great idea,” Alex grinned.  “The girls will love that.”

“We’ll love what?” Jessie perked up excitedly.

“You’ll see,” Alex winked.

“OK, I’ll see you guys later, then,” Sam finished.  “Thanks for this.  I owe you one.”

“Nah,” Alex denied.  “You don’t owe us anything.  See you tomorrow.”

Alex hung up the phone.  “Ruby’s coming over,” she informed them.

“Yes!” Jessie cheered.

“Can Carter come over?” Jamie begged.

“You’ll have to talk to Douglas about that,” Alex replied.  “He’ll be here soon.”

“He’ll tell me to ask you,” Jamie pointed out.

“OK, I’ll give him the all clear, and he can decide from there,” Alex offered.

“Thanks, Mom,” Jamie beamed.  She was confident that Douglas would allow it.

They finished breakfast, and Douglas arrived while they were cleaning up.  The family exchanged hugs and kisses and love, and the foursome headed out to work.

Kara and Alex strode into the DEO together to meet with the gang in the briefing room.  “You have news about Reign?” Kara asked.

J’onn nodded.  “Coville told you he met a dying priestess who escaped from Fort Rozz.  She told him everything about Reign.”

“Well, we combed the manifests of Fort Rozz,” Winn informed her, “And found there are exactly two priestesses on board. One being…”

“Jindah Kol Rozz,” Kara read off the big screen.  “Fort Rozz was named after her.”

“Yep,” Winn confirmed.  “And on the manifest, she actually has the exact same glyph as Reign.”

“Do we know where she is?” Alex asked.

“We believe that in all the time Fort Rozz was marooned here on earth, she never got out,” J’onn replied.

“Uh, there's a small problem,” Kara pointed out.  “I kind of threw Fort Rozz into space, remember?”

“That's what we thought,” J’onn confirmed.

“But, then we found it,” Winn grinned.  “Orbiting a little star called AZ33-XB12.”

“Did you say AZ33-XB12?” Brainy repeated.

“Problem?” J’onn inquired.

“Yeah, that's a blue star,” Brainy informed them.

Kara cringed.  “I won't have my powers there.  There's no yellow sun.”

“Blue stars also emit omicron radiation which means it's fatal for any lifeform with a Y chromosome.”

“It's poisonous to men?” J’onn asked in surprise.

The Legionnaires nodded.

“I'll go with you,” Imra offered.

“Are you sure?” Kara worried.  “It’s going to be dangerous.”

“You're not going up there without me,” Imra said seriously.

“Kara, we fought some tough escapees on earth,” J’onn reminded her.  “What's left on that fort is the worst of the worst.  You two can't handle this on your own.”

“Yeah, maybe you're right,” Kara sighed.  “Maybe we will need some help.”

“I’m sure Lyra will want to help you,” Winn suggested.  “But you really should let her sleep until noon.  She’s been pretty busy working and training and doing nightly patrols.”

“Aww, I hope she’s not doing too much and that she knows she can take a day off once in a while,” Kara fretted.

“She does,” Winn assured her.  “She told me she wants to stay busy so that time will go by faster.  She’s really looking forward to helping out with the babies.”

Kara and Alex grinned.  “That’s so sweet,” Kara sighed.  “I guess I can go ask Amy,” she said thoughtfully, looking at the time.  “She’s probably really busy right now, though.  It’s Saturday, and Noonans is usually packed on the weekends.”

“Fuck,” Alex sighed, running a hand through her hair.  “You should still probably ask her.  This is pretty important.”

“I will,” Kara nodded.  “After the lunch rush.  We have to wait for Lyra to wake up anyway.”

“Who else do we have?” Alex wondered.  “Lucy’s leg is broken, and I don’t want the kids out there, shields or not.  They don’t have the light technology that your suit has.”

“I have an idea, but you’re not gonna like it,” Kara told her.

“What, are you drinking on the job, Livewire?” Supergirl tisked.  “Or should I say, ‘Roseanne?’”

Livewire looked down at her dingy waitressing uniform that was embroidered with the name ‘Roseanne,’ and rolled her eyes.  “How'd you find me?”

“I've been keeping tabs on you ever since I let you go,” Kara admitted.

“Yeah, well…” Livewire chuckled wryly.  “As you can see, I'm making an honest living now.  So if you're looking to go a few rounds, come back after the breakfast rush.”  She took another swig from her beer and stayed seated on the pile of pallets that served as her chair.

“No, I'm not here to fight you, I'm... I'm here because I need your help,” Kara informed her.

“My help?” Livewire growled.  “I loathe you!”

“I know why you're working here,” Supergirl ignored the barb.  “It's because of Reign.  She's been killing criminals so you decided to go straight.  Smart.”

“Yeah, well, some of those ‘criminals’ were people I knew.  Friends of mine,”  Livewire hissed.

“And they didn't deserve to die,” Kara acknowledged.

“No, they didn't.”

“So help me get Reign.”

Livewire finally got up out of sheer incredulity.  “I saw you get body-slammed by that GLOW reject last weekend.  It was all over the news.  You think I'm up for a beat down like that just because you said, ‘Pretty please?’  Honey, you haven't been reading my psych evals correctly.”

“I'm not asking you to fight her,” Kara pleaded.  “I'm asking you to help me get intel on her.”

Leslie started walking away.

“Which requires us to go to a place where I won't have my powers,” Kara sulked.  “So I need someone I know to… to have my back.”

Livewire started laughing hysterically.

“Are you finished?” Kara huffed.

“Oh, my God!” Livewire continued to laugh.

“Look, she's gonna come after you sooner or later, so are you gonna help me or not?”

Leslie groaned in frustration.  “Fine.”

Winn led Brainy into the heart of the briefing room where all the state of the art computer systems were.  “And this is where the magic happens, my friend.  From here, we can monitor and communicate with the Legion Cruiser any time throughout their entire mission.”

Brainy looked around him with his eyes wide.  “Incredible.  You actually rely on this to keep people safe?  This is the technology that backs up Supergirl when she goes into battle?”

“It is…” Winn replied awkwardly.  “Yes.”

Brainy shook his head.  “She is so much braver than I ever knew.  I've seen espresso machines with more processing power.”

Winn looked like he was ready to cry from the assessment but his phone ringing distracted him.  “Hey, beautiful,” he greeted his girlfriend.  “How are you?”

“I’m good,” she replied.  “What’s up?”

“Hey, yeah, could you come down here when you’re finished getting ready?” he requested.  “Kara needs your help with something.  Bring your suit.  And your shield.”

“OK, I’ll see you soon,” Lyra replied.

“See ya,” he hung up the phone and tried to assure Brainy that this technology was the top of the line, but that just made the alien more frustrated.

The kids were having a blast at the arcade.  It was packed, and a ton of people recognized them, so they magically had a whole group of kids to play with.  They took photos and signed autographs and introduced their playmates to Ruby and Carter.  They got lots of requests to see their powers, but the kids refused to take off their power dampeners, citing that their mom wouldn’t be happy with them if they did.

Sam had given Douglas money for pizza and games, so they stuffed their faces and played video games to their hearts’ content.  Jessie and Jamie had extra fun playing with the smaller kids and letting them play games with them.

“So, is one of them yours?” a flirting mom asked Douglas while the kids played.

“Oh, no,” he replied.  “I’m just watching them today.”

The woman smiled decadently and was about to say something else, but she was interrupted.

“Douglas!” Jessie shouted across the room.  “You gotta come do the strong man test!”

“Excuse me,” he said to the woman.  Douglas chuckled and left his perch mingling with the too-friendly parents to give the kids a show.  He casually strolled over to the game, rolling his shoulders and cracking his knuckles melodramatically.  “OK, here we go,” he said as Jamie put the coins in.  He squeezed the bar with all his might, and they all watched in fascination as it declared him a super man.

“Woo!” the kids all clapped and cheered.

“That was awesome!”

“Do it again!”

Douglas grinned, “OK, one more, but that’s it.”  When Jamie dropped more coins in, he grabbed the bar and squeezed.  Once again, it declared him a Superman.

“Wow!” the crowd cheered again.

Douglas showed off his muscles through his hoodie and growled playfully.  A couple of braver youngsters grabbed onto his arms to see if they could hang from them.  He laughed and let them hang for a few seconds before lowering them to the ground.

“You’re way better than the real Superman,” Jessie grinned, giving him a big hug.

“I’ve never met the real Superman,” Ruby said, “But I agree.”

Douglas wasn’t really the emotional type, but that hit him right in the heart.  “That means a lot, you guys.  Especially from you, Ruby.  Thank you.”

“You have too met the real Superman!” Jessie corrected Ruby.

“No I haven’t,” Ruby argued.

“Ugh!  Yes, you have!  At the baby shower!  Remember?  I told you who it was,” Jessie insisted.

Ruby frowned and thought about it, and she did remember something about it.  “I thought you were joking.”

“Why would I do that?” Jessie huffed.

“You joke around all the time.  I just thought you were being funny.  That guy didn’t look like he could lift a chair without straining,” Ruby shook her head.

The twins cackled.  “Well, he is a huge nerd,” Jamie admitted.  “Like, you think we’re bad?  He’s way worse.  Like, super boring and kind of a know-it-all.  And he thinks he’s funny, but he’s not.”

“Well, I always liked Supergirl way more than him, anyway,” Carter spoke.

“Me too,” said Ruby.

Douglas was surprised at the twins’ description of Superman.  He’d never heard anything like that before.  Most people worshiped the ground he walked on.  Or hated him with every fiber of their being.  Hearing him being called boring was news to him.  No one had told him who Superman was, so he had no idea who they were talking about.

“I want to see Douglas on the shooting games!” Jessie announced, not caring to talk about Superman anymore.  “Maggie kicks butt!  I want to see how you measure up.”  She tugged a relieved Douglas along behind her.

“I’m in,” he replied.  He didn’t want to talk to any of the parents anymore anyways.  The moms were getting too flirty, and he wasn’t about that.  He wasn’t usually much of a lady-chaser, even before Sam came around, but he just so happened to meet Sam, and she just so happened to be really amazing, so he couldn’t help himself.  He considered himself to be very blessed, and that wasn’t going to change because some horny housewife batted her eyelashes at him.  He focused on the kids and the game they had him playing.

Turns out, he was a hair better at shooting than Maggie was.  It gave him a fun idea to challenge the detective to a real shoot-off at the range after she had her baby.  The more he thought about it, the more he realized that he would have to include Alex, Lena, and Lucy too.  He chuckled to himself as he thought about how much fun that was going to be.

He never thought he’d be a part of a family.  He was so old - nearly 34 when he first started working for the Danvers - and he hadn’t found a wife yet because he was such a loner in his younger days.  But then J’onn proposed the idea of being the bodyguard of Supergirls kids, and his life had been turned upside down.  The Danvers didn’t think of him as just a soldier, or just a babysitter.  They saw him as a person to get to know and learn to respect and love, and then suddenly, he had a family.  It wasn’t traditional, but it was still good.

Amy spotted Kara as soon as she walked in the front door of Noonan’s and waved.

“Hey!” Kara greeted her.  “How are you?”

Amy crossed the restaurant to give Kara a hug.  “I’m good, how are you?”

Kara tilted her head side to side.  “I have a kind of favor to ask,” she admitted.  “Can you escape this place for a few minutes, so we can talk?”

Amy nodded seriously.  “Yeah, hold on, let me tell my assistant manager that I’m going to be gone for a few minutes.”  She followed after the gorgeous black woman named Desirre, catching her attention and talking to her.  She returned to Kara a few minutes later.  “OK, let’s go upstairs.”

Kara nodded and followed her friend up to her apartment.

When they were safely behind closed doors, Amy turned to her with a concerned look on her face.  “What’s going on?”

Kara sighed.  “I have an opportunity to get intelligence on Reign, but it requires me to go to a place where I won’t have my powers.  It’s um-  It’s going to be dangerous, but I’m trying to build a team.  We’re going to a blue star that’s apparently deadly to men, so I’m trying to build a full team of women to come along.  I feel terrible asking you because I know you’re busy, but I don’t have a lot of options.”

The look on Amy’s face was not encouraging.  “A blue star?” she gulped.  “Like… in space?”

“Yeah…” Kara bit her lip nervously.  “We’re gonna take the Legion’s ship.”

“So it, like, travels at light speed, or what?” Amy pressed.

“Faster,” Kara grinned, trying to reassure her.

“How?” Amy raised her brow.

Kara shook her head and shrugged.  “I don’t know.  They won’t let me look at the mechanics.”

“How long would we be gone?” Amy asked, still unconvinced.  “I don’t think I could leave Tara for a few years.  That wouldn’t be right.”

“It won’t be any years,” Kara promised.  “A couple of days at most.  Probably not even that long.”

Amy put her hands on her hips and frowned.  “I just don’t see how that’s possible.”

“Believe me, it is,” Kara assured her.  “We had similar technology on Krypton.  That’s how Clark and I got here so fast.”

“You did?” Amy squeaked.  “Wow.”

“So what do you think?” Kara asked with a touch of The Pout.

“Let me talk to my girl,” Amy sighed.  “I don’t know how she’s going to feel about this.”

“OK, that’s fair,” Kara nodded.

“Wait here, and let me see if she’s upstairs,” Amy said.  “Have a seat.”

While Amy went upstairs, Kara plopped down on the couch and tried to focus her hearing on the restaurant downstairs so she didn’t accidentally eavesdrop on Amy and Tara.  Amy was gone for a while, so she assumed Tara was upstairs and the two were talking.  When Amy came back down, Kara couldn’t read her face, so she stood up and awaited the verdict.

“Tara says that as long as you promise we won’t be gone longer than two days, she supports me helping you out,” Amy told her right away.  “But I’m letting you know now, I’m really nervous about getting on this spaceship.”

Kara put her hands on Amy’s shoulders.  “Trust me, the spaceship is the safe part.”

“Let me get some things in order, and I’ll meet you at the DEO as soon as I can,” Amy requested.

“OK.”  Kara sighed with relief.  “I’ll see you soon.”

Kara escorted Livewire into the DEO.  “Uh, FYI, not everyone here is on board with you coming along,” she warned the woman.

“Screw 'em,” Livewire snarled.

Winn waved at her.  “Hey, Leslie, you remember me?  I used to fix your computer at CatCo.”

Much to Kara’s surprise, all Livewire said was, “No.”  It wasn’t even snarky.

Winn looked vaguely disappointed, but Kara was just glad she didn’t verbally beat him down.

“Who the hell are all these people?” Livewire complained.

Kara crossed her arms.  “Would you like me to introduce you to everyone?” she asked rhetorically.

Livewire glared.  “Yeah, you’re right.  I’m good.  Wait, is that preggers chick coming along?  I didn’t sign up for that kind of-”

“No,” Kara tried to have patience, but it was wearing thin.  “No, she’s not coming.  This is Lyra, Imra, and Amy,” Kara pointed out.  “They’re going with us.  Along with…”

“Prisoner arrived!” a guard announced, bringing in a full escort of guards surrounding the criminal Psi.  She had a silver band around her head that blocked her powers, and she did not look happy.

“Her,” Kara finished.  To Psi, she said, “Thanks for agreeing to join us.”

“Reign's going after people like me.  I don't wanna get killed by that psycho when I finally break out of this place,” Psi smirked at the guards.  Suddenly, she picked up on Leslie’s sneer.  “Do you have a problem?”

“Ninety-nine, but you ain't one,” Livewire quipped.

“Supergirl?” J’onn urged her aside.

She swallowed.  “Mmm-hmm.”

“Livewire, I get,” J’onn whispered.  “You two have a history.  But Psi?”

“I know, I know,” she whispered back.  “But you know how powerful she is.  I mean, she beat you in a psychic duel.  She overpowered me more than once.”

“That's exactly what I'm worried about,” he replied.

“I am a little worried too, to be honest,” she admitted.  “But If we're gonna win this thing, we have to take risks, and this feels like a risk worth taking.  Amy’s still green around the gills.  She’s strong, but hasn’t been in many real fights yet.  I want to have a stacked hand here.”

“All right,” J’onn relented, handing her a strangely shaped key.  “This should unlock the psychic dampener.”

“All right,” she said, taking the key and stashing it away in one of the hidden pockets Lena had built into her new suit.

“The ship's ready,” Imra announced.

“Remember the light drive can get a little finicky,” Garth told Imra.

“I know,” she replied.

“And if there's a breach, just-”

“Garth, I've captained the ship more times than you,” Imra rolled her eyes.

“Just… take care of each other,” he finished.

“We will,” the girls replied.

J’onn sighed.  “Good luck.”

Alex waved.  Kara had already said goodbye to her in private so that Livewire and Psi didn’t see them and get any ideas about taking advantage of their relationship.  She’d also stopped by to see her other wives and her children and told them she expected to be back before midnight.

“Let's move,” Kara commanded.

XXXXXXXXXXXX

“Do we have any idea where she could be?” Imra asked as she and Kara looked over the blueprints of Fort Rozz in 3D on the ship.

“No,” Kara sighed.  “Her records didn't say where she was held.  We'll just have to search, I guess.”

“Fort Rozz, that was where your real mother…” Imra trailed off.

“Locked up criminals?  Yeah,” Kara nodded.  “Let's just say no one there will be welcoming my arrival.”

“Well, um, good thing we've got the dream team then,” Imra smirked.

Kara snorted.

In one part of the room, Amy was sitting with her head between her knees, trying not to have a panic attack.  “Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod,” she chanted, voice barely above a whisper.

Lyra sat beside her, having a hell of a time consoling her.

In another corner, Livewire and Psi were eyeballing each other distrustfully.

“Nice tiara,” Leslie smirked.

Psi got that predatory glint in her eyes.  “Why don't you zap it off me, and I'll show you what I can do.  It would be such a delicious pleasure to bring you to your knees and watch you writhe in pain.”

Livewire laughed.  “Do you always talk like that?”

“At least I don't sound like an illiterate mean girl,” Psi retorted.

“Okay, Regina George,” Livewired rolled her eyes.

“Hey,” Supergirl interjected herself.  “Let's tone it down here, okay?  We're all here for the same reason, right?”

Silence from both of them.

“I'll take that as a yes.”

Livewire looked disdainfully over at Amy.  “Is this really the best you could do for female supers?  What happened to girl power?”

Supergirl remained stone faced.

The ex DJ sighed.   “How much longer is this gonna be?  Do we have to get plugged into some kind of space beds so we can sleep until we get there or something?”

“Oh, God, please, no,” Amy whimpered.

“Actually, we're approaching now,” Imra announced.

“For real?” Leslie stood up and looked out the window in fascination.

“It's a fast ship,” Imra grinned.

“Oh, thank God!” Amy groaned in relief.

The six of them peered out the window and beheld the intersecting rings of the giant fortress.

Livewire whistled.  “So that's your Kryptonian Alcatraz?”

Even Amy quieted down at the sight of the fortress against the blue hue of the sun behind it, too in awe to be afraid in the moment.

Lena was giving Sam a last-minute pep talk before she left for her trip.  “They're gonna try and steamroll you, okay?  They always do.  But just remind them without L-Corp, their business is moot.”

“Trust me, they'll be reminded,” Sam replied determinedly.

“Thanks for doing this,” Lena smiled.  “I know it must be hard to leave Ruby.”  Normally, Lena herself would take these kinds of trips, but Dr. Landry didn’t want her straying too far from the hospital this late in her pregnancy.

Sam chuckled.  “You know what, I have a feeling she will be fine without me this time around.”

Lena grinned.  “I'll see you when you get back.”  She gave Sam a hug, and the CFO rubbed her belly before she headed out.

As Sam was prepping her briefcase, she heard a strange whispering around her, and that whispering called out to her alternate form.

XXXXXXXXXXXX

“Okay,” Douglas cleared his throat.  He was playing host to the kids’ Trivial Pursuit game, so he was reading the question cards.  "When East Pakistan separated from West Pakistan, it formed which country?"

“Bangladesh!  Pie!” Ruby grinned.

The other kids groaned at losing.

“How did you know that?” Douglas gaped.

“I'm super smart,” Ruby chuckled.

Jessie smooched her cheek proudly.

Douglas scoffed.  “Whatever. I'm super hungry, so...  Where is that tater-tot masterpiece you promised me?”

“We’ll go check it,” Ruby giggled, dragging Jessie along behind her.

“Behave yourselves,” he called after them.

“We will!” the girls called back, disappearing from view.

Their singing carried through the kitchen and the foyer into the living room, and Douglas chuckled to himself.  “Are we gonna play another round?” he asked Jamie and Carter.

They both nodded animatedly.

“Yeah,” Jamie replied.  “I want a rematch.”

“Me too,” Carter agreed.

Jessie and Ruby came bounding back in.  “Ten more minutes,” Ruby announced.

“OK,” Douglas acknowledged.  “Let’s get set up for another game, and then we can eat.”

“Well, according to the reading, we should be securely locked on,” Imra announced.  “Brainy, can you confirm?”

“Affirmative,” the Coluan’s voice came through loud and clear.

“Shall we?” Supergirl asked the team.

Psi stepped in front of her path and pointed to the power dampener on her head.  Kara sighed and hesitated, prepping herself for the possibility of an attack.  She took a deep breath and put the key into the lock.  Psi sighed in relief.  “Boo,” she deadpanned.

Kara rolled her eyes.  “Let's go.”

Suddenly, the ship rocked violently, and the six of them stumbled, trying to get their bearings.

“Is everyone okay?” Kara checked.

“She's looking a little green,” Livewire pointed at Amy who indeed did seem to look like she would be sick at any moment.

“Brainy, what was that?” Imra inquired.

“The docking of the Legion ship has slightly altered the orbital path of Fort Rozz by .003 AUs,” Brainy replied calmly.  “Not to worry. Just a bit of turbulence.”

"Turbulence!" Winn echoed.

Brainy turned to Winn and began explaining, “Uh, turbulence is the result of chaotic changes-”

“I know what turbulence is!” Winn huffed.

“All right, boys, this is riveting, but we have a prisoner to find,” Kara cut them off.  She led her team to the airlock, and Imra opened the door to reveal the entrance to Fort Rozz.  Kara tried to turn the wheel to open the door, but it was way too heavy for her.  She grunted and tried a little harder, but nothing happened.

“Promising start,” Livewire grumbled.

“Let me try,” Lyra offered.  She stepped up and turned the wheel with a groan, and it opened right up for her.

As they stepped through the doorway, they looked around at the dark space surrounding them.

“Space is creepy as fuck,” Livewire huffed.

“Guys,” Kara called out, looking at a dead alien lying on the ground.

“Holy hell,” Livewire commented.

“I've seen worse,” Psi shrugged.

“He must have been poisoned by the blue star,” Lyra observed.

“The lesser sex,” Livewire quipped.  She turned around and shined her light down the corridor.   “I'm pretty sure that's not how jail cells work.”

“Fort Rozz has been floating with limited power for so long the cells must have opened,” Kara surmised.

Brainy’s voice came over the comms.  “Our scans are picking up signatures of various life forms loose on the ship.”

“Kara, please be careful,” Winn urged.

“Mr. Olsen?” Lena knocked on James’ office door.

“Lena,” James grinned at her.  “How are you?  I was wondering if you were going to be coming in today.”

“I’m doing well, thank you.  I just had to get a couple of things squared away over at L-Corp,” Lena informed him.  “How’s your shoulder?”

James tilted his head from side to side.  “It’s not too bad right now.  It’s mostly healing well, but I occasionally get some pretty intense stabbing pains in the wound, so that’s not fun.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.  Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help,” Lena offered.  “I actually came here to ask you a small favor.”

“Sure, what is it?” James agreed before even hearing the proposal.

Lena smiled appreciatively.  “I was wondering if you would accompany me to visit a possible lead on getting access to Morgan Edge’s bank records?  I would go myself, but it’s going to be dark, and Kara is offworld, and my wives would kill me if they found out I went to meet a strange man in the dark by myself.”

James chuckled.  “Yes, they would.  I would be honored to accompany you, Mrs. Danvers.”

Reign stood before her creator.

“Why were you delayed?” the priestess demanded.

“It's her. I can feel her,” Reign replied.

“Who?" The priestess inquired.

“The… human…  side of me,” Reign bit out in disgust.  “She has strength I did not expect.”

“She is no excuse for failure,” the priestess replied strictly.

“You're right,” Reign agreed.  “I must focus and find the others. “

“You have another mission first,” the priestess told her.  “The fortress has detected a signal.  Supergirl and your other enemies have boarded Fort Rozz.”

“What for?” Reign wanted to know.

“For more information about you, I presume.  The Dark Priestess Jindah Kol Rozz has been imprisoned in Fort Rozz since well before the destruction of Krypton.  She knows the entire extent of our mission.  She knows of your friends, the other Worldkillers.  If Supergirl gets to her to get any information…”

“It'll thwart our plans,” Reign finished the priestess’s sentence.

“You need to get to her before Supergirl does,” the priestess commanded.

Reign’s pod appeared for her use, and she took off after Supergirl.

“This place is like the Mall of America.  You can wander around her for days and not find a thing,” Livewire complained as they walked down a seemingly endless hallway of prison cells.

“Do you smell that?” Psi sneered.

“What?  Another dead body of an incompetent male, perhaps?” Livewire quipped.

Imra sniffed the air.  “I smell it.”

A loud yell came from behind them, and an unfamiliar alien woman jumped out at them.  “You!” she pointed her weapon at Supergirl.  “You bear the sign of the House of El.  How dare you show your face around here!” She swung her baton at Supergirl’s head, but the Kryptonian jumped back enough to miss getting hit.

Imra flung a metal door at their attacker, distracting her for the briefest second while Psi and Livewire both shot their powers at her.  When Lyra went to grab the woman, she got hit with the big pole the woman was carrying, but thankfully, her shield protected her.  Amy tried stepping in, grabbing the pole and trapping the woman against her body.  The woman flailed, and Amy wasn’t quite strong enough to hold onto her, so in the midst of the chaos, Psi let loose another burst of her powers, but instead of hitting the hostile alien, the alien thrashed, and the burst of powers hit Amy instead.  Amy let go of the alien woman, getting knocked to the ground in the process.  Livewire took the opportunity to wrap their attacker in her electric whips and zap the shit out of her.

Kara ran to Amy, who was holding her head and crying softly on the ground.   “Are you hurt?  Amy?  Amy, you're okay.  You're okay.  It's gonna be okay.” She turned to Psi, “Why did you do that to her?”

“It was an accident,” Psi insisted.  “I was aiming for the mad woman.”

Lyra grabbed Amy and hauled her off the floor.  “It’s OK, Amy.  You’re OK,” she soothed.  “You’re safe.  Everyone’s safe.”

“Let’s get this… woman… back to the ship, so we can securely question her,” Supergirl requested.

Imra used her powers to haul the alien woman back to the ship.  They secured her in a chair and waited for her to wake up.

“Ruby?” Jessie nudged her girlfriend who was staring into space.  “It’s your turn…  Are you OK?”

Ruby shook her head and looked back at the game board.  “Oh.  Um…”

“What’s wrong?” Jessie pressed.

“Nothing,” Ruby said defeatedly.

“Something,” Jessie rebutted.  “Come on, talk to us.”

Ruby closed her eyes and sighed heavily.  “There's this girl at my school.  Erika Morrison.  And... I didn't let her copy my homework, and she got upset and started texting and posting things about me.”

“Can you show me?” Jessie requested.

“Yeah,” Ruby breathed, handing her phone over to Jessie.

"Erika Morrison.  What does she know?” Jessie grumbled, looking at the texts.  Her eyes widened at what she read.  “Who died and made this girl queen?”  She showed the texts to Douglas.

Douglas scoffed at the horrible things this girl was saying.  “Uh-uh,” he huffed.  “No. Come on.  Get your coats.”

“What are we doing?” Jamie inquired.

“Oh, this, we can do something about,” he said seriously.

“Is that really necessary?” Psi complained as Supergirl put her power dampener back on her head.

“Look, either we can't trust you, or you lost control of your powers,” Kara pointed out.  “Bottom line, you're unsafe.”

Psi groaned.  “So you dragged me all the way up to space for nothing.”

“Maybe you shouldn't have been so loosey-goosey with your powers on poor Pink over there,” Livewire snarked.

“You're sure you're okay?” Kara asked Amy.

“Yeah,” Amy breathed out shakily.

“I know what it feels like when she gets in your head,” Supergirl assured.  “If you need a minute or two…”

Amy shook her head.  “I'm fine.”

“It was an accident!” Psi growled at Livewire.

“Didn't look that way to me,” Livewire pointed out.

“Do you wanna try this thing on, see what it feels like to have your powers taken away?” Psi hissed.

“Get that thing near me and I'm gonna fry you,” Livewire replied coldly.

“Hey!” Kara interjected herself.  “No one's getting fried, no one's getting hurt. We have a job to do.”  She led the group into the room where their strange alien attacker was being held.  “We're looking for Jindah Kol Rozz.  She has information we need.”

“You're a bunch of fools,” the woman sneered.

“She's not wrong,” Livewire commented.

“Xitheria,” the woman said.

“Who's that?” Supergirl asked.

“The last one who ever went to try and find Jindah.  Xitheria was a brutal criminal, but she had softened.  She wanted Jindah to join us.  We never did see her again, but we heard her screams.  You wanna risk your life, you be my guest.  Jindah is in the Dendara Corridor.  Beyond the dark fog.  Good luck.”

The ship rocked, sending it’s crew stumbling again.  They returned to the computer terminal, and they could hear Brainy trying to get through to them.  “Imra, we have had a small emergency here.”

“Brainy, are you there?” Imra called.

Brainy continued to try to communicate with them.  “A solar flare has critically…”

“Did we lose him?” Supergirl worried.

“Lovely,” Livewire groused.

“Communication with the DEO was reliant on our orbital path,” Imra said, checking the computers.

“What did he say about a solar flare?” Kara asked.

The ship rocked again.

“You have got to be kidding me!” Psi complained.

“Fort Rozz has been hit by a solar flare,” Imra informed them.  “It's been knocked out of orbit, and it's pulling us with it.”

"Pulling us?” Supergirl repeated.  “Pulling us where?”

“We're falling into the star,” Imra told them.

An automated voice taunted them.  “Vessel temperature rising.  Twenty degrees to critical overheating.”

“I hate space,” Livewire groaned.

“We need to get out of here,” Psi reasoned.  “Detach from this monstrosity of a prison, and let's go back to Earth.”

“The docking port's jammed,” Imra replied, shaking her head.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Lyra complained.

“So how long before we meet our fiery maker?” Livewire asked facetiously.

“One hour, maybe two,” Imra said.

“So we have time,” Supergirl pointed out.  “We still have a job to do.  So let's find Jindah.  Imra, you stay here and re-establish communications with the DEO.  Psi will stay with you.”

“What use am I here?” Psi complained.

“Too much could go wrong if you lose control of your powers out there, so find a way to be useful here.”  Kara turned to Imra and handed her Psi’s key.  “And if anyone attacks the ship, cut her loose.”

“Copy that,” Imra nodded.

“Lyra, Amy, Leslie, let's go,” Kara urged.

Livewire groaned.  “I really hate when you call me that.”

“So all communications are down?” Alex tried not to panic.

“Do you have impulse satellites here?” Brainy wanted to know.

“No. I mean, none that are gonna reach that ship,” Winn shrugged.

“Perfect,” Brainy huffed.  “Just perfect.  That's great.  I'll go down in history as the 12th-level intellect who let Supergirl burn up in a blue star.  Give me my space.  I need to think.”

“Listen,” Winn tried to get his attention.  “Listen to me.  What if we just try and reroute-”

“No!  Space!” Brainy barked.

Winn began fuming, and Rokk took him aside, “When he gets like that, it's best to just let him do his thing.”

Winn was furious, but he didn’t see any chance at reasoning with the alien at the moment, so he just sat and steamed for a while.

“Okay, where exactly are we going?” James asked Lena.

“I told you, this guy has access to Edge's bank records,” Lena replied simply.

“That's great, but, I mean, literally, where are we going?” he pressed.

Lena smirked.  “Jimmy Olsen, are you scared?  Don't worry, I'll protect you.”

Suddenly, the pair were both blasted by something that resembled heat vision.

“Go!  Move, move, move, move!” James urged Lena, half-carrying her as they ran.  He secured Lena behind a dumpster and had her duck down as best she could.  “Stay down.”

Knowing Winn’s shield would protect him, James went back to confront their attacker.  Instead of any Kryptonian, it was a man with some kind of heat ray gun.  The man shot James right in the chest with the beam, but it bounced right off the force field and ricocheted right back at him.  The man with the gun was knocked out cold, and laid on the ground in an amusing starfish position.

“Hey, so we're alive,” James called out to Lena.

“Yeah, well, thank God I was here,” she grumbled.  She hated feeling like a damsel in distress.

“You okay?” James asked her.

Lena shrugged.  “It's just my monthly assassination attempt.”

“Yeah, about that.  Who the hell is this guy?” James looked back at the man on the ground.

Lena shrugged again.  “No clue.”

James took out his phone and called the police while Lena called Maggie.

While they were waiting, Lena’s phone started blowing up with messages from the company that Sam was supposed to be meeting.  They wanted to know where Sam was, and why she was taking so long to arrive.  Lena frowned and texted back that she would try to find out where Sam went.

“What’s wrong?” James worried.

“Sam hasn’t shown up to her meeting yet.  She’s over a half an hour late,” Lena fretted.  She texted Sam, “Hey, are you OK?  Where are you?”

No answer came.

“We should be close to the Dendara Corridor according to the directions,” Supergirl announced.

Livewire scoffed.  “Glad one of us was listening.  So, what's the deal with that beautiful girl?  I mean, does everyone in the future look like that?”

“Down, girl,” Kara laughed.  “She’s married.”

“Wouldn’t be the first time,” Livewire chuckled lowly.

Kara rolled her eyes.

The ship rocked again, throwing all of them around again.

Livewire gave Supergirl a Look, “So, are we sure Matilda is gonna be able to figure out-”

“Just focus on the mission, okay?” Kara reminded her.

“Fine,” Livewire submitted surprisingly easily.  “So, this Reign character. We're getting information so we can kill her?”

“No.  Of course not,” Kara protested.  The priestess will have information that I could use to get through to her.”

“Whaaat?” Livewire drew the word out in almost a whine.  “Come on!  You and your Pollyanna BS!  You think you're gonna get through to Reign?”

“I got through to you,” Kara pointed out.  “There must be something good in you that I could trust to come with me.”

“I came with you because there is a maniac on the loose and I wanna take her down. If you think I wouldn't fry you right now…” Livewire sparked lightning in her fingertips.

“So, do it,” Supergirl challenged.

Livewire steamed for a few seconds before she finally backed down with a sigh.  “All I'm saying is somebody as evil as Reign deserves to die.”

Supergirl crossed her arms over her chest.  “And anyone else who thinks otherwise is just a sucker?”

“Now you're catching on.”  Livewire pointed up ahead of them.  “There's the fog.  Looks like we're here.”

The four of them looked at each other nervously before taking the plunge and walking in.  Amy clasped Lyra’s hand in trepidation.

“Is it colder in here?” Kara shivered.  She knew she could use her gauntlets to trigger her powers, but she didn’t know how much it would give her, and she wanted to save it for an emergency.

Livewire walked a little ahead of the others.  Kara turned and looked behind her when she felt like some kind of breeze brushed against her from a person moving.  No one was there.  “Amy?  Lyra?” The shadows in the fog seemed alive, and it was creepy.  When she turned back around, she came face-to-face with some sort of growling spector.

XXX

Livewire turned around and found that she was suddenly alone.  “Supergirl?” she called out.  No answer.  She couldn’t see any of the rest of the group.  She couldn’t see a damned thing through this disturbing fog.  She peered around her, trying to figure out where in the hell she was supposed to go when she was suddenly slammed into the wall by some sort of terrifying creatures.  She phased through the wall, taking the creatures with her, but she miscalculated, and found herself floating in the black of space.  She nearly had a heart attack and quickly phased herself back into the prison before she died.  She took a moment to catch her breath before she called out again, “Supergirl?  Supergirl!”

XXX

Amy and Lyra found themselves separated from the group.  Somehow Supergirl and Livewire had disappeared into the fog, and they were nowhere to be seen.  The pair clutched their hands tighter together as they discussed where to go.

“Let’s just keep going forward, and hopefully we’ll catch up with them eventually,” Lyra suggested.

Amy nodded.  “Just don’t let go.  I don’t want to lose you too.”

They heard a growling coming from up ahead, and suddenly, they were being circled by a pair of frightful ghost-things.  They didn’t let go of each other, the girls both kicked out and struck the figures, sending them flying back.  The creatures recovered quickly, flying back at them, and the girls punched them right in the faces.  The ghosts tried to grapple with them, but Winn’s shields were working effectively at protecting them.

“Kara Zor-El…”

Supergirl heard her name being whispered.  She opened her eyes and saw that she was lying on the ground in the middle of Fort Rozz.  How the heck had that happened?

“Kara Zor-El…”

Kara sat up and looked around her.  She was still in the fog, but she knew who was calling her.  She stood up and called for her companions, “Livewire?  Leslie?  Amy?  Lyra?”

“Kara Zor-El…” the whispering continued.

Supergirl decided to just follow the voice.

Douglas made the kids duck down in the back of his 4x4 when they arrived at their destination.  He had changed his clothes, and now he looked like a real FBI agent.  He called Ruby’s phone, so the kids could listen in, tucking it back into his pocket.  Then he walked up to the front door of the house and knocked authoritatively.  When a teenage girl opened the door, he put all his bass into his voice, “Are you Erika Morrison?”

“Yeah,” she huffed, full of attitude.

Douglas kept his cool, flashing her his FBI badge.  “Special Agent Dickson, FBI.  Have you been sending harassing messages to a young woman named Ruby Arias?”

“No, I haven't,” she denied readily.

Douglas showed her the screencaps he’d gotten from Ruby.  “We intercepted this earlier today.  Did you know the FBI monitors cyberbullying?  I have 23 separate incidents of harassment catalogued here.”

“But I didn't mean it!” the girl panicked.

“You violated three criminal statutes,” he informed her truthfully.  “Do you know what that means?  That means you could go to juvie.”

“I don't want to go to juvie!” she whined.

“Well, you should've thought about that before you broke the law,” he said gruffly.

“I'll never do it again.  I promise!” she pleaded.

Douglas clicked his tongue.  “I don't know.  I think I should probably still talk to your parents about this.”

The girl looked positively terrified now.  “No, please don't tell my mom! She'll kill me.”

“Okay,” he pretended to think about it for a moment.  “You will apologize to Miss Arias.  And if I ever hear another incident of bullying from you ever again, you will have the federal government to deal with.”

“You won't.  I swear!” Erika insisted.

Douglas glared at her for a moment longer.  “Have a nice day.  Go ahead.  Close the door.”  He hurried back out to the car and pulled out of the driveway.

“That was awesome!” Ruby exclaimed.

“Right?” Jessie agreed.

“Okay. So, there's a girl who lives three houses down.  She shoved me in kindergarten,” Ruby pointed out.

Douglas gave her a Look.  “Don't push it.”

Ruby shrugged.  “OK, fine.”

Maggie showed up at Catco, meeting Lena and James in his office.  “Hey, I couldn't get here any faster.  Are you okay?”  She pulled Lena into a hug and kissed her firmly.

“Yeah, I'm fine,” Lena sighed.

“Do you know why he tried to kill you?” Maggie fretted.

“Morgan Edge hired him,” Lena informed her.

Maggie’s eyes rounded.  “You have proof?” she asked hopefully.

“Circumstantial,” Lena shrugged.  “But the shooter used to work for the annual National City Tech Conference.  Morgan Edge hosts it every year.”  She showed Maggie a picture on her computer to prove it.  “Sociopathic cockroach,” Lena hissed.

“He'll get what he deserves,” Maggie assured her.  “Guys like him always do.”

“I hope so.  This is getting tiring,” Lena complained.

“Nineteen minutes until event horizon,” Alex announced worriedly.  “We gotta figure this out.”

“Maybe we can bend the signal, like around the star somehow?” Winn suggested.

“With what, willpower?” Brainy scoffed.  “No.  We need to boost a strong enough signal to go through the star.”

“Yes.  But…”

Brainy lit up with an idea, “You have nuclear power, correct?”

“Yes, we do,” Winn answered.

“We could use a cold-fusion optical transceiver to harness the... Why're you shaking your head?”

“We don't have cold fusion!” Winn shot him down.

“Of course not,” Brainy huffed.  “Why would that be useful?”

“We have to think inside the box and use the technology we have,” J’onn pointed out.

“Oh.  Hmm.  Okay. ‘The technology we have,’” Brainy grumbled.  “Eureka!  I've got it.  An empty bottle.  We'll write the instructions on paper and we'll launch it into space. It will only take 12,234 years to arrive.

“Message in a bottle!” Winn exclaimed, running to his computer and typing furiously.

“Wait, what is it?” Alex needed to know.

“Voyager,” Winn replied vaguely.

“Wait, what?  What is..  What is that?” Brainy hurried over to see what Winn was doing.

“Voyager 1 and 2,” Winn repeated.  “They're space probes from the 70's.  Dude, learn your history.”

“They carry a record of peace from the people of Earth,” J’onn informed him.  “A message in a bottle.”

“Yes, yes.  OK, we can bounce the signal off of Voyager 2.  It has a straight line of sight directly to the Legion ship,” Winn announced victoriously.

“And the signal will get there?” Alex asked hopefully.

“Yeah,” Winn confirmed.

“Do it. Do it fast. Good work, Agent Schott,” J’onn praised him.

“Winn, thank you,” Alex hugged him.

“You got it,” Winn smiled.

Lena’s phone rang from a number she didn’t recognize.  “Hello?” she answered.

“I heard you were attacked by someone who tried to make it look like it was perpetrated by that thing that's leaving those alien marks,” Morgan Edge’s voice made it clear that he was smiling.  “That's awful.  Awful.  I mean, you’re pregnant, right?  Who would do such a thing?”

Lena bit back an animalistic growl and forced herself to use her words.  “Morgan, you are a vile, despicable scrooge who's gonna die alone and in prison.”

Morgan laughed like she’d just told a joke.  “Well, gotta go. Office party.”

The computer’s automated voice taunted Imra and Psi.  “Vessel temperature rising.  Ten degrees to critical overheating.”

“Maybe you should work faster,” Psi urged, just standing there and watching Imra fiddling with the wiring in the ship.

Imra sighed.  “Maybe you should make yourself useful and hand me that spanner wrench.”

Psi looked around on the floor for a second before she sensed something awry.  “Sing a song of sixpence, a pocketful of rye,” she said, walking towards the ship’s window.

“It's no good. I can't get a strong enough signal to reach planet Earth,” Imra groaned in frustration.

"Four and twenty naughty boys baked into a pie,” Psi continued.

“What are you on about?” Imra huffed.  She got up to follow Psi across the room.

Psi kept reciting her poem, “The maid was in the garden hanging up the clothes, when lowly came a blackbird and pecked off her nose.”

Imra finally saw what had disturbed Psi.  A small space craft was docking inside of Fort Rozz as they watched on.  “It's Reign. She's here.”

XXX

“Kara Zor-El…”

Supergirl continued to follow the whispers of her name until she finally found a solid figure and the fog cleared in front of her.

“Daughter of Alura,” the woman purred.

“Jindah Kol Rozz?” Kara checked.

“You know I am. And yet you ask,” Jindah huffed.  “Uncertainty will be your doom. Not green stone.”

“I came to ask-”

“I know why you came,” Jindah snapped.  “The Phantom Zone dampened my powers, not the Sight.  Misery of your mother's design.  But you'll be with her soon.”

“Can you tell me about Reign?” Kara asked.

“She will destroy you,” Jindah grinned.

“I've heard otherwise,” Supergirl countered.

“You know nothing of the nature of destruction,” the priestess shook her head.  “You are a child living in light.  But there is darkness in all things.  In every soul you know.  Who will it take?”

“No one, if I have anything to say about it,” Kara replied.

“You fly too close to the sun.  I have languished in pain for time beyond reason because of you, the Children of light.  But your pretty skin will soon be brittle scales in hellfire when the others awake and unite beneath the standard of Reign.  Worldkillers. The power, the pestilence, the purity!” Jindah raised her hands victoriously.

A voice spoke from behind Kara, “Priestess.”

Kara turned around and gasped.  It was Regin.  How the hell did she get here?

Jindah opened her arms in welcome and walked over to Reign.  “My child.  You've come.  At last our time is upon us.  Deliver me from this prison and we will bring anguish upon our enemies!”  The priestess turned around to face Kara, and Reign used her heat vision to vaporize her.

“How do you have your powers here?” Kara exclaimed.

“My powers aren't dependent on something as trivial as the sun,” Reign taunted.  “You're different without your powers.  Like a child, helpless and afraid.”

“I'm not afraid of you,” Kara told her.  “Even though we're enemies, there's still something that binds us.”

“Save your speech, Supergirl,” Reign sneered.

“No, you have to hear me.  There is something in you that sees what you're doing is wrong, that sees the pain you're causing and regrets it.  You don't have to be my enemy.  You want justice in the world, so do I.  But we're not gonna find it by attacking each other.”

“And that's where you're wrong.”  Reign’s eyes glowed red with the beginnings of heat vision, but before she had the chance to fire at Supergirl, she was shocked by a heavy jolt of electricity, throwing her to the ground.

“Watch out,” Livewire quipped.

“Coming to Supergirl's rescue?” Reign smirked.

Livewire’s hands crackled with energy.  “I'm coming to take you down.”

XXX

“We need to find Supergirl,” Imra insisted.

“What are you talking about?” Psi balked.  “We need to find a way out of here.”

The automated voice taunted them again.  “Vessel temperature rising.  Five degrees to critical overheating.”

“I refuse to get incinerated by a star,” Psi huffed.

“I have tried everything!” Imra replied frustratedly.  “I can't-”

Brainy’s voice crackled over the comms, “Imra, we've reestablished communication with you from the DEO.  Do you copy?”

“Brainy!  I copy!” Imra called back.

“Yes!” Winn cheered in the background.

“I told you we would figure out a solution,” Brainy bragged.  “I can interface with Fort Rozz from here, redirect some of our power to its throttles.”

“Hey, Imra, have you found the Priestess?” Winn asked.

“They're looking for her now,” Imra answered.  “But, Winn, Reign's here.”

“What?” Winn and Alex exclaimed together.

“Okay.  No, no.  You need...  You need to go protect Supergirl!” Alex panicked.

“No, she can't,” Brainy stopped her.  “She needs to control the throttles and manually hit these coordinates until the ships are steadied and Fort Rozz is back in its original orbit.”

“Okay, well, who is gonna handle Reign?” Alex growled.

“I can go,” Psi offered.  “Take this thing off me.”

Imra stared at Psi for a moment of indecision before finally unlocking the power dampener from Psi’s head.

“See?  Don't be afraid, Matilda,” Psi smirked.

XXX

Livewire was still busy attacking Reign, having fun teasing the Kryptonian by zapping her and phasing into the lights around her, over and over again.  Reign tried zapping her with her heat vision a few times, but Livewire was too quick for Reign to catch her.

“Is that all you got?” Livewire taunted.

“You're a nuisance.”  Reign tried her heat vision again, but Livewire countered with an attack of her own.  The pair circled each other, getting closer and closer to each other, still firing their powers at one another until Reign was close enough to sneak past Winn’s shield’s guard and grab Livewire by the throat.

“Get your hands off her!” Supergirl yelled, trying to pull Reign away from Livewire.  Reign just batted her away like an insect, sending her flying into the wall.

Livewire growled deeply, “You need to stop attacking my friends!” She grabbed Reign’s arm and zapped her with all the anger in her body.  The strength of her attack sent them both flying backwards.

Reign got up and scowled, advancing on Livewire with a murderous glare.

Kara, afraid that Livewire’s shield was malfunctioning, called out to distract Reign.  “No, no.  Stop!  Stop.  I'm the one you want, right?  I'm the one who's trying to stop you.  She came here because of me.”

“Then she can watch you die first,” Reign growled. She fired off her heat vision at Supergirl, but Livewire quickly jumped in front of the blast.

“No!  Leslie, no!” Supergirl cried out.

“Leave her!” Reign hissed.

“Leslie?” Kara checked.

“I really hate it when you call me that,” Livewire groaned a little breathlessly.  “I’m fine.  Go!”

“Blackbird!” Psi called out to Reign.  “What's going on underneath that dark, dark shell of yours?”  She smirked and let loose a powerful blow of her psychic powers.

Reign stumbled and her face grew more and more fearful as the seconds ticked by.  The rogue Kryptonian grabbed her head and started screaming, falling to the ground. After a few minutes, Reign opened her eyes again, looking terrified.  “Where am I?” she whimpered.  “Where am I?  What's happening?”  She looked around her.  “Supergirl?”

“Reign?” Kara answered gently.

Reign suddenly grew angry, and she high-tailed it out of there before anyone could stop her.

“Leslie?” Kara turned around to see the metahuman standing up and brushing her clothes off.

“I swear to God, if you call me that one more time, I’m going to zap you into space and leave you there.

Kara ignored the barb and sighed in relief.  She wanted to hug the woman, but she knew that wouldn’t be taken well.  “I’m glad you’re OK,” she told her.

“Yeah, yeah,” Livewire grumbled.  “She got away, though.”

“It’s OK, we’ll get her,” Kara assured.  “Let’s go find Amy and Lyra.”

They meandered their way through the fog and found the pair still fighting those creepy ghost things.  Livewire zapped the creatures and they fell to the ground lifelessly.

“Thank God!” Amy sighed, panting from exertion.  “I think we’ve fought like 20 of those guys by now.”

“Let’s get out of here!” Lyra insisted.

The group managed to find their way back to the Legion ship, and Imra was immensely relieved when they returned.

“I’m so glad you guys are OK!” Imra exclaimed.  “When I saw Reign leave, I thought you were goners.”

“No, Psi really came through for us,” Kara informed her.  “Reign’s on the run.”

“Good deal,” Imra sighed in relief.

“Can we leave now?” Amy begged.  “Space is not for me.”

“Yes,” Imra replied.  “We are clear to leave.”

“Let’s get home,” Supergirl nodded.

When the group of women returned to the DEO, they were met with applause and cheers from the rest of the Legionnaires and a few members of the DEO.

Garth scooped Imra up and twirled her around.  “Well done.”

“You worried?” she asked him.

“What, me?  No.  No, no, no.  I knew you'd be fine the whole time.”

“Oh, yeah.  He sure did,” Winn slapped his back with a smirk.

Kara smiled at them.  “She really helped,” she said before being pounced on by Alex.  “Hi, baby girl,” she sighed in relief.  “I missed you.”

Alex squeezed Kara with all her might.  “I’m so glad you’re all OK.  I’m so proud of you, Kara.”

“Psi was the one that saved the day,” she replied, turning to the metahuman.  “Hey. You saved me.  Thank you.”

“Don't get emotional,” Psi rolled her eyes.  “I just didn't want to die out there.”

Kara turned to Psi’s guards.  “Can we get her a better room, please?  Maybe one with a window?”

Psi smiled victoriously, and Supergirl knew there was a chance that doing this would allow the metahuman to escape, but at this point, she didn’t really care all that much.

“She really came through, huh?” Winn grinned.

Kara nodded.  “They all did.”  She pulled Alex back into her arms and snuggled her for a few minutes.

“So, um…” Livewire cleared her throat.  “Am I free to go, or…?”

Kara turned to her, not letting go of Alex.  “Of course.  You really came through for us today, Livewire, I really appreciate it.”

“Yeah, well, I guess I’m a sucker now too, huh?” Livewire sighed.

Kara chuckled.  “I knew I could count on you.  If that makes you a sucker, then I guess you are, but I don’t see you that way.”

“Alright, well, I’ll see you around, then,” Livewire waved and turned around to leave.

“See you around.  I look forward to working with you again soon,” Kara called after her.

Livewire flipped her the bird and kept walking away.

Kara and Alex laughed.

“Are you OK?” Alex checked with her wife.

Kara nodded.  “Yeah.  I mean, we didn’t really get any new information, but it was really awesome to see Livewire and Psi working together with us.  I’m really proud of them.”

“It’s the Kara effect,” Alex chuckled.  “It’s like another super power, but it comes from you being you, not from Supergirl.”

Kara snorted.  “If you say so.”

“I know so,” Alex replied, kissing her softly.

“Can I go now?” Amy requested, sounding a little irritated.

Kara and Alex turned to see their friend looking haggard and worn out.  “Of course,” Kara replied.  “Thank you for all your help.  I’m so proud of you guys.”

Amy tried to smile at her, but it just looked wary.  “I need to go snuggle with my girlfriend.”

“Go.  Snuggle.  Rest.  I owe you one,” Kara said, giving her a big hug.

Amy melted into the embrace and sighed heavily.  “Thanks.  I needed that.”

Hearing that, Alex decided to give her a big hug too.  “Thank you so much for looking after Kara.  I hope you can go home and relax now.”

“Thanks.  Do me a favor and don’t call us for a couple of days,” Amy waved and trudged away.

“I feel really guilty about the bad experience she had out there,” Kara told Alex.  “I think we should try to do something nice for her.”

“Yeah, I think so too,” Alex agreed.  “Maybe we could send them on a nice little trip or book them a day at the spa or something along those lines.”

Kara nodded enthusiastically.  “Yes, I like your line of thought.”

“I don’t think we’re going to hear from Reign again tonight,” Alex mused.  “We should go home and snuggle too.”

“Yes, please,” Kara grinned.

Before they left, they made their rounds of hugs and goodbyes, thanking Lyra and Imra profusely for their help.  When they were ready to leave, Kara scooped Alex up into her arms and flew off the balcony, heading straight home.

Lena arrived home later than she would have liked, but on top of dealing with yet another assassination attempt, she’d been on the phone for hours trying to figure out where Sam went.  She’d called the airport, and every hospital and police station in the National City area, but never came up with any leads.  The only evidence that Sam had been going on a trip was her prepped and ready briefcase that still sat on her desk back at L-Corp.  There was no sign of a struggle, and no one saw her leave.

She must have looked frightening when she came in the door because the kids slightly cowered away from her when they saw her, when normally, they would run right at her all at once.  She blinked and tried to cleanse her face of any anger or worry that was trying to show through.  “Hello, my darlings.  Where are my hugs?  I need them right now.”

That seemed to do the trick because the kids all ran to her and gave her big hugs, telling her how happy they were to see her.  The twins could still sense her tension.  She could tell by the extra long hugs they gave her and the multiple kisses on the cheeks.  They took her by the hands and led her into the kitchen, knowing she must be hungry.

She asked them about their day, while they got food for her, and she listened while she ate her fill.  When they were finished, she smiled sweetly at them.  “I’m really glad you had a good day today.”

The security monitors in the kitchen showed that Alex and Kara were home, so the kids all ran to greet them, and Lena waddled along behind them.  They all exchanged greetings, and hugs and kisses.

“Mama, how was outer space?” Jessie wanted to know.

Kara grimaced.  “It wasn’t the most fun I’d ever had.”  She led the group into the living room and sat down to recall the story of the day to them.

“Sounds about as fun as my day,” Lena quipped, telling them of her assassination attempt and her lack of ability to find Sam.  “Have any of you heard from her today?” she asked.

Everyone looked at their phones, but they all shook their heads.

“I’ll try to call her,” Ruby offered out of worry.  She put the phone on speakerphone, and Sam answered after the first ring.

“Hey, Rubes, I’m on my way over right now.”

“Mom?” Ruby said cautiously.

“What’s wrong?” Sam asked.

“That’s what I’m trying to figure out,” Ruby replied.  “Where have you been all day?”

“What do you mean?” Sam was clearly confused by the question.

“Lena said she’s been trying to call you all day,” Ruby exclaimed.

“She has?  Well, I’m almost there, she can talk to me in 2 minutes,” Sam informed her.

“OK, Mom, I love you,” Ruby said, still looking worried.

“Love you too.”  Sam hung up the phone, and true to her word, she was there in less than two minutes.  Kara met her at the door and escorted her into the living room where she was met with frantic hugs all around.

“Thank God you’re OK!” Lena exclaimed.  “I was worried sick!  What happened?  Why didn’t you get on the plane and go to your meeting?” Lena fretted.

“I had a work trip?” Sam looked really confused, staring at her phone, trying to make sense of things.

“Yeah,” Lena replied.

“No, I did… I did,” Sam shook her head.  “I know...  I know I did.  But I didn't go anywhere.  Oh, my God.  How did I miss this?”

“Are you okay, babe?” Douglas worried about her.

“They had a car for me,” she answered.  “I never got in the car.  I never got on a plane.  How?  Oh, my God!  Where have I been?”

Lena held one of Sam’s hands, while Douglas held the other.  “Sam, sweetie, I think you need to come to the DEO with us right now.”

“Right now?” Sam’s eyes got even wider.

“Yes, right now,” Lena replied softly.  “Please, Sam.”

“OK.”
