Chapter 38: Across the Line

Holly Adams POV:

I was woken up by a sound coming from … somewhere. Andy and I were still wrapped around each other, and it would be so much easier just to stay here in bed with him. Stay where it was nice, and warm, and snuggly. But if I didn’t get up, the sound might continue, and then it might wake up Andy.

As gently as I could, I untangled myself from Andy and went to find the source of the noise. It turned out to be my laptop in the other room. Opening it, I could see someone was trying to video-call me.

I was still pretty asleep at this point, but fortunately for everyone, I was awake enough to go find a housecoat before I answered.

Accepting the call, I found Captain Philips on my screen.

“Corporal Adams,” Philips greeted sternly.

Calling at … 1:30 in the morning, skipping pleasantries, this couldn’t be good. “Captain Philips, what can I do for you?” I asked, wanting to get this over with so I could go back to cuddling.
