THE NEXT DAY

Rafael King POV:

One of my employees handed me a winter coat as I stalked into an industrial freezer. I strode between rows of frozen animal carcasses until I reached a space at the back that had been cleared out.

Two of my employees sat there, and on the folding chair between them sat some nameless idiot.

“This better be important,” I warned my employees. “I trust you realize that this is interrupting my brunch with Miss Blaq?”

“We understand, sir,” one of my employees, a tall woman with short brown hair, replied. “But we left that this was a matter you would want to address yourself.”

“Bold of you to make that judgment,” I warned her.

Instead of replying she turned to the idiot in the chair. “Explain to Mr. King why you interrupted his date.”
