As the battalion's convoy evacuated at steady speeds, the rides were bumpy, and uncomfortable, but nevertheless reassuring. Even after the most recent tremor, no sign of the taniwha had appeared yet, but Valentina knew it was only a matter of time until that changed. Knowing that they were at least making some distance though, she returned her focus to more important matters, at least in her eyes.
After the doctor pulled out his tools, he had immediately got to work and, although his speaking was frustratingly slow, his hands were moving at a steady pace. Looking at what he was doing had the Archduchess vaguely interested, but she was sure that if Dahlia was properly awake, she would have found the procedure far more interesting.
