Capítulo 12: Gemstones 101
Roman arrived at the venue, where the guy had a planned meeting for a while now; walking inside the gentlemen's day club, he realized there was an extra added person sitting on the velvet accent chair next to Logan. Seeing the tiny baby bump Natalie has, he knew Logan must have forced him to bring her here; regardless of how pretty Natalie is, she always acted insecure since she knew Logan was forced into marrying her.
Roman walked past the Bar area and nodded towards the bartender to give him his usual drinks; he wasn't a day drinker; however, he needed it today to calm his mind from his mother later. The Madam is going to make him go crazy. He needs to put a stop to this madness regarding marriage. It won't happen anytime soon, he has far too many commitments, and he has not seen a woman that he thinks is suitable for his lifestyle.
Taking a seat across from Logan and Natalie, He greeted them and made small conversations about the wedding next month and baby preparations.
"How is everything going so far?"
Glancing at a Roman inquiring about her pregnancy and wedding preparation, Natalie felt excited because one of Logan's essential friends had taken an interest in their life. Knowing she is just an arranged bride for Logan has made her confidence falter slightly. Socialites talked, and everyone knew she wasn't the love of his life. she had been paying so many investigators to find the woman, yet she came empty-handed.
"Everything is perfect! Baby is fine, and I am due in a couple of months; I definitely could not wait for the arrival of our bundle of joy," The enthusiast Natalie spoke while hugging Logan's arm and leaning her head on his shoulder.
Roman nodded, locking his eyes on Logan, who still looked like he was not in the slightest bit enjoying this exchange. Cody caught a glimpse of the cold ambiance within his friends Logan and decided to talk business with Roman to deviate from the subject of his private matters.
"Have you found the appraiser?"
Sipping his drinks, Cody placed the crystal glass back on the table.
"No, sabbatical leaves." Roman continued,
"Well, we needed one if we would want to venture the gemstones, those mines in Monroe are just waiting to be discovered and rigged. I won't deploy man capacities until we can recognize what type of gemstones are inside it."
"Gemstone?" Natalie was trying hard to fit into the discussions. Ultimately, she felt like she could contribute an idea for once.
"I met a woman today who seems to be a promising candidate about the gemstones evaluations."
She revealed her engagement ring from The Kent family and urged the guys to pay attention to it and have them assess the year and the designer for the call.
Everyone looks, and only Roman can tell it's Van Cleven's design since the Diamond was carved by hand and indicates a sign of the Edwardian period.
"Correct! But what about the year?" She grinned again.
No one can be sure since the museum only allows less than ten people to see the ring, and since Natalie is the recipient, The curator disclosed the year Van Cleven created the piece.
It's an indication of wealth when you can own everything in life; Nothing excites you til you become the only person to own something or comprehend something; a little secret makes you feel superior.
"1440, I was the only one that knew about it. However, the woman guessed it right."
"Which woman? "
Logan, that was kept silent the entire exchange, finally spoke.
"Clarissa Henson, that is the name she told me; I think she is the daughter of Conrad Henson?"
Logan fisted his knuckles white and gritted his teeth; he then closed his eyes to soothe himself before cutting Natalie off from speaking.
"We have to go; it is not good for you to sit here longer; let me send you back."
Roman paid close attention to his friends, which was agitated; he would not push for answers unless Logan were ready to speak about it.
The couple left the premises in a hurry, inviting stares from them.
"Do you notice too?"
Cody broke the silence while keeping his eye on their back.
"Yes, any news about the woman he dated?"
"No, he was being very secretive about it. I am guessing The Kent has threatened them."
Roman shook his head, not approving of the practice; his family has always been receptive about who the children marry. What they want is a healthy, educated woman to carry healthy grandchildren. The Knights are the only old Money that allows it. But it doesn't mean anyone can easily climb the social ladder. There are rules and mannerisms to be taken into consideration.
They go back to their gemstone conversation; Cody has always loved to have his business that does not involve anyone in The Hale family. If The Kent is erroneous, The Hale is the nastiest. They have competitions in which the winner will be the next empire heir, a sick game that makes cousins and siblings fight each other.
"Is Clarrissa Henson the same one attacked on the yacht almost a week ago?"
Roman notices Clarissa's name has been thrown so many times this week. If Natalie met her today, who was the one in Credence shopping and using his private jet?"
Selena informed him the mother and daughter pair had departed this morning for Credence. He needs to call Selene to check on this matter.
