Capítulo 3: King Jaehaerys

Kingslanding, Crownlands, fourth moon of 96 AC

Jaehaerys Targaryen POV

King Jaehaerys Targaryen sat on the Iron Throne as he listened to petitions and solved little quarrels between the Nobles as he had done for fifty years. Jaehaerys purple eyes turned to his wife; time had been kind to her as it had been to him, at least as far as physical appearances went. Even after outliving six of his ten children, Jaehaerys and Alyssane still kept a generally positive way of seeing life, mainly because they still had four children and a few grandchildren to live for; that was until his favorite daughter Maegelle ( not that he would let anyone ever know about it) got infected with Greyscale. The hardest thing about it was seeing his daughter in pain and suffering; the second part was having to wait, seeing his daughter slowly but surely fade away. Ever since Jaehaerys got the news, his mood dampened, and he never got better; it was then that his Grandson Viserys gave an idea to announce to the Realm that if someone were able to cure Maegelle, Jaehareys would grant a boon to the said person.

Jaehareys got excited at the prospect of saving his daughter, but after a moon, his excitement slowly vanished, bringing back his melancholy.

Jaehaerys listened to Garlan Tyrell, Lord Layton Tyrell's younger brother, once again ranting about the North buying less than half of the number of grains it used to buy five years ago and how it affected the Reach.

" AND WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE ME DO?" Jaehaerys shouted suddenly, interrupting Garlan's Tyrell rant

" Your grace?" Garlan asked

" What would you have me do, Ser? Would you like me to fly to Winterfell and demand House Stark to part with their gold and give it to you? Would you like me to fly to Skagos and burn their cattle and farms?" Jaehaerys asked rhetorically

" Aye…" Garlan Began, but a glare from Jaeharys stopped him

" What?" Jaehaerys asked dangerously

" No… your grace… I just meant… Why don't your grace charge them with a high tax on their grains and other food items? I'm sure that would bring more business to Reach! Those barbarians surely deserve it!" Garlan said

" The code of law and code of taxation is the same for the whole realm, Ser Garlan. If I were to charge the Northerners with heavy taxes on food items, the entire realm would get those same taxes… including the Reach." Jaehaerys said, much to all present nobles' horror. Garlan Tyrell didn't look very eager at that idea

" Your Grace… you surely jest! Wouldn't just taxing the Northerners solve the problem?" Garlan insisted

" ENOUGH! I shall not punish the North for growing their own food and selling it at a reasonable price. If House Tyrell can't find a way to solve the Reach'a problems, perhaps I should consider changing the Paramountcy to a House that can!" Jaehaerys said

" Your Grace, I know a few cities in Essos are interested in buying food from the Reach, or any other kingdom in Westeros, especially Norvos, Pentos, and Lhazar. In fact, Pentos already made contact with the Reach, but the prices asked by House Tyrell simply made the deal impossible." Septon Barth said, and Jaehaerys couldn't help but feel irate at Garlan Tyrell

" Is that so? How much did House Tyrell ask for their grains, Ser Garlan?" Jaehaerys asked

" The same amount we charge from The Northerners, Your Grace," Garlan responded

" Which is almost ten times more than what House Tyrell charges any other kingdom… including during Winter." Septon Barth ( the hand) said

" Isn't that interesting… Why do you charge The North ten times more than the other Kingdom, Ser Garlan?" Jaehaerys asked, and Garlan went silent.

" Your Grace…" Garlan began but was interrupted

" Silence! I know why House Tyrell and the whole of the Reach do that! You're all greedy little men who are proud to take advantage of the desperate northerners; you threaten not to sell them any food if they don't buy it by your exorbitant prices, and as no other Kingdon can provide them with food, the Starks accept that so their people would not go hungry… That is pitiful. Go back to the Reach, Garlan Tyrell, go back knowing your House has lost favor with the King… and if Lord Tyrell doesn't solve this problem soon, I will find someone in the Reach that will." Jaehaerys said, and Garlan nodded, his face completely pale.

As Garlan left the Great Hall, two roars were heard, but Jaeharys ignored them as it was common for Baelon and Daemon to fly together over Kingslanding.

Jaehaerys made for the next person to approach, but before the said person could do so, a very distraught guard entered the Great Hall and ran to the front of the Iron Throne; the guard walked Ser Redwyne, The Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and whispered something on his ears, Ser Redwyne immediately climbed the steps of the Iron Throne. When he got close, he said loud enough for only Jaehaerys to hear.

" Your Grace, two Dragonriders arrived at the city; they identified themselves as Lord Ragnar Dovahkiin of Skagos and Lady Dacey Dovahkiin from Skagos. The men said one dragon was as big as Vhagar and the other was as big as Balerion, if not bigger. They are coming to the Red Keep seeking an audience with Your Grace." Ser Redwyne said, and Jaehaerys eyes widened

" Impossible…" Jaehaerys said and, after a few seconds, nodded to himself, " Where are Baelon and Daemon?"

" I believe both Princes are training at the training grounds." Ser Redwyne said

"Send Ser Crabb to fetch them and inform my lady wife of this," Jaehaerys said

Ser Redwyne nodded and descended the steps of the Iron throne; he informed Ser Crabb of his task, who then left the Great Hall.

The present Lords were apprehensive after watching the Court being interrupted, something Jaeharys saw but chose not to address. He traded worried looks with Alyssane, who tried to covey comfort through her eyes but failed.

" The Court is over for the day, my lords. The crown will hear about more cases tomorrow." Jaehaerys announced, but no Lord left the throne room, which was customary; many Lords stood in the great hall to talk business or alliances.

After a few minutes, Prince Baelon and Daemon arrived together with Prince Viserys. The three of them exchanged quick words in high-valyrian.

Before Jaehaerys could say anything to his son and grandsons; Harald shouted:

" Presenting Lord Ragnar Dovahkiin, High Lord of Skagos, Warden of the Shivering Sea, Shield of Bay of Seals, and Rider of Midstinul.

Presenting Lady Dacey Dovahkiin, High Lady of Skagos, and Rider of Snowstorm.

Presenting Lord Davos Seasworth, Lord of Skane"

From the Iron Throne, Jaehaerys could see that Lord Dovahkiin was a tall man, probably the tallest man he had ever seen; Lord Dovahkiin wore a sleeveless black leather tunic with a silver dragon in the middle, below the tunic, a silver gibbon with small dragons embroidered in it, he wore black trousers and a dark brown cloak. Lord Dovahkiin's hair was raven black, and his head was shaved in the sides and had one long braid going from the top of his head to the middle of his back. Lady Dovahkiin was tall, although not as tall as her husband; she wore a silver/grey winter dress with black details on it, and her hair was long and as dark as Lord Dovahkiin's.

Lord Davos was as common as someone could get, wearing brown leather tunics with a black cloak on his shoulders.

Lord Dovahkiin walked side by side with his wife, Lord Davos a little behind them; as they got a few feet from the Iron Throne's steps, Lord Dovahkiin knelt, and so did his wife and sworn Lord, that action caused Jaehaeys apprehension to calm by a lot.

" You stand in the presence of King Jaehaerys Targaryen, the first of his name; King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First man, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm and Rider or Vermithor." Septon Barth said

" You may rise, my Lords and Lady," Jaehaerys said, and they rose; Lord Dovahkiin looked at him with only respect in his eyes, not fear; Jaehaerys noticed, just respect. Lady Dovahkiin, on the other hand, looked at him with admiration, respect, and gleefulness, like a girl meeting her girlhood hero, as if he was a legend from the age of heroes. Lord Davos' eyes mirrored Lady Dovahkiin's

" You came all the way from Skagos, mounted in your Dragons and bringing a small fleet to Kingslanding. You must understand I have questions, my Lord. Questions that must be answered." Jaehaerys said as he looked at Lord Dovahkiin.

" Your Grace, I shall answer all questions to the best of my abilities." Lord Dovahkiin said, and Jaehaerys was surprised by how powerful the man's voice was. It was deep and resonant, like a contained shout.

" Very well. My Lord, you and your wife don't look Valyrian; How is it that you have a Dragon? If I'm not mistaken, only the Valyrians can ride Dragons." Jaehaerys asked the question, normally formalities for questions such as those would take a long time; however, the gods blessed the Dovahkiins by making them Northerners and as such blunt as a hammers

" Your Grace, our dragons are unlike those of House Targaryen; our dragons breathe frost and not fire. House Dovahkiin's dragons come from the Shivering Sea; they are Ice Dragons, like the legends of the North." Lord Dovahkiin said, and Jaehaerys nodded slowly.

" So they are not Valyrian Dragons…That is an interesting fact, my Lord; still, it doesn't explain how you are able to ride them… or is it a mystery to you as well?" Jaehaerys asked, and Lord Dovahkiin shook his head.

" No, Your Grace. I know why and how I, my wife, and those of our blood can ride the Ice Dragons; it has to do with why I came to Kingslanding. You see, Your Grace; I am a mage, in fact, the greatest mage in the history of this world. I used my magic to bond the Ice Dragons to my bloodline." Lord Dovahkiin said, and Jaehaerys eyes widened, but before he could say anything, the GrandMaester interrupted

" There is no such thing as a mage! Magic is dead! It died with Valyria. How dare you lie in front of the King," Grandmaester Allar said, and Lord Dovahkiin seemed ready to reply, but Jaehaerys throne was his and his alone.

" Do not interrupt me, Grandmaester. You seem to live under the delusion that I will let you interfere in my talks with a Lord of the Realm. You will refrain from making such comments, or you will be refrained." Jaehaerys said as he didn't even spare a look at the Grandmaester.

"My Lord, you make large claims, larger than most things I've ever seen… and dangerous claims at that. All men can claim things, but backing it up is something else, do you understand that?" Jaehaerys said, and Lord Dovahkiin smiled at him, a smile he had rarely seen, not a smile born of fun or mirth, but a smile born of respect.

" Aye, Your Grace; I understand; if Your Grace requires proofs, I can provide them. Perhaps I could transform the Grandmaester into a Goat; perhaps I could do what I came here to do, which is curing Princess Maegelle from the Greyscale, or I could do both." Lord Dovahkiin said, and Jaehaerys eyes widened.

" Once again, your claims are big. However, I shall amuse you, my Lord." Jaehaerys said as he lifted his right arm and showed a strapped bandage on his forearm. " You said you can cure my daughter from her Greyscale, then perhaps you can cure my arm from a cut I took while training with Blackfyre." Jaehaerys challenged Lord Dovahkiin and nodded, much to everyone's surprise. Usually, any mummer would've stopped when challenged to do something, not in their plan, and that they would probably fail.

" I can do that, your grace… in fact; I can cast a spell that will cure everyone's cuts or bruises in a large area if your grace would allow me." Lord Dovahkiin said

" Not yet, my Lord. Before I allow such a thing, there's still one more question. Do you use sacrifice to cast your magic?" Jaehaerys asked, and for the first time, Lord Dovahkiin looked at him with something else other than respect; the expression on Lord Dovahkiin's face was like he had just seen someone punching his mother.

" Nay! Never! I would rather die than use sacrificial magic. I am a full-fledged mage, master of all schools of magic; not some disgusting red priest of R'hollor or wood witch! Sacrificial magic is one of the vilest things a person could do!" Lord Dovahkiin said, and instantly Jaehaerys knew the man was telling the truth; no person could fake such disgust or show such fake aversion, not even the best os mummer or player of the so-called game could pull it off; especially on someone who sat on the Iron Throne for fifty years

" I'm sorry if I have offended you, my Lord. It wasn't my intention, but as a King and as a person who also abhors such things, I am bound by duty to ask such a question." Jaehaerys said, and Lord Dovahkiin nodded, with respect once again in his eyes. " You may do your magic, my Lord." Jaehaerys completed.

Lord Dovahkiin nodded his head before raising his hands, and from his hand, a golden light appeared; Lord Dovahkiin closed and opened his hands and then made a move as if throwing something into the ground, and then suddenly a golden circle of golden light appeared, Jaehaerys heard gasps, but he didn't mind it as he felt the cut in his right forearm tickle, and then the pain disappeared. Jaehaerys hadn't felt like that in ages; his back didn't hurt, and neither did his joints

" It seems I will die without seeing a Northman lie… You certainly didn't lie to me, my lord. Let us not lose time anymore… Maegelle is suffering right now. Follow me, my Lord. I'll have you do what you came here to do before we talk again as fellow Dragonriders," Jaehaerys said as he got up from the Iron Throne and began descending its steps.

" My love?" Jaehaerys said once he got to the floor and offered his arm to his wife; Queen Alyssane interlocked her arms with Jaehaerys.

" Baelon, Damon, Viserys," Jaehaerys said as he made for his son and grandsons to follow him.

King Jaehaerys and Queen Alyssane left the Great Hall, followed by their son and grandsons, Lord and Lady Dovahkiin, and the Kingsguard.

A/N: Hello guys! I see you guys are liking this Story so far… now we are back to my normal way of writing. It's less rushed and more detailed.

What do you guys think of my King Jaehaerys? I've tried to make him sound like Uriel Septim ( TES 2 and 4) and Aslan from Narnia.
