80% Chasing Dreams: Becoming a Kpop Idol / Chapter 8: Grade Evaluation (2)

Capítulo 8: Grade Evaluation (2)

Jisuk started the song.

Sayonara no mae ni let go

De mo kokoro no meiro no naka de mayou~

His vocals was accompanied by only a piano so his voice really stood out. The vocal mentors were amazed by how beautiful his voice is.

It was followed by Jiwoo. The transition in which the vocalist changed was smooth.

Sutereo kara Mono e, wakaremichi wa sou~

After a single line, Gangseok's rap followed. This is when the beats of the song were introduced to add background and depth. The tone of his voice really matched the song. And his natural groove gave life to the song.

Kore ga chiriyuku sadame naraba, My last letter

Tsudzuru kotoba, kaite wa keshiteru

Kimi e no omoi wa so many to let go, unpuzzle my lego

Moto no katachi ni modorenai level

So be it, don't cry, I'mma let you go and fly

After Gangseok's deep-toned rap, Wooin's rhythmic rap followed. The speed and volume of the beats intensified. In contrast with Gangseok's deep and strong voice when rapping, Wooin's voice was light so it almost sound like he's just singing fast. The combination weirdly worked well.

Sewashinaku suru hibi keeping myself busy

Magirawasu tame umekonda schedule

Demo wasurerarenai yo nouri ni yakisuiteru like tatto

Ana koro niwa modorenai ne

Dekiru koto nara call your name

No.. but uketomeru your blame

Hontou ni it's time to say goodbye

The beats were removed and only the piano remained, emphasizing Jiwoo's vocals again as he sang his part.

Sayonara no mae ni Let go

Demo kokoro no meiro no naka de mayou

Stereo kara mono e wakaremichi wa sou tsudzuku darou

After Jiwoo, Jisuk's voice exploded as he reached the peak of the notes. It was accompanied by fast beats that highlighted his vocal skills. His voice sounded emotional and it made the trainees and mentors feel something while watching.

Ima kimi no te o hanaseru you ni~/////

I gotta let you know~ that I need to let you go~

Hard to say goodbye demo nigenai

I'm ready to let go~

Because Jisuk was the last one to sing his part, they finished the song with him in the center. They were gasping for air as they sang live while dancing.

The mentors and trainees were just staring at them with wide eyes. They were left speechless by their performance. They felt that something is definitely special with Jisuk's voice as it was able to pierce through them with emotions. Although they didn't understand the lyrics as it was in Japanese, Jisuk etched a lonely emotion in them through his singing.

Just as they thought it was over, a second song played and the formation of the four changed.

A distorted sound played. It sounded similar to those of broken speakers. Then heavy and powerful beats followed. It instantly made the audience thought, 'Ahh this is gonna be a dance performance.'

To their shock, Choi Gangseok sang the first part. Yes, DAWN's main rapper sang! And it was amazing. He showed his spectacular rapping skills but they didn't know that he sings just as good.

She got me going crazy, woo

wae simjangi ttwini? Woo

neon areumdawo naui Goddess

dadhyeoitji Yeah, yeah

dudeuril teni nal deulyeo bonaellae?

gamchwojin seurileul julge

After Choi Gangseok, Wooin followed with his amazing vocals. The tone of his voice changed from being light, to something trendy and upbeat.

nundongjaui hogisime

imi neon ppajyeodeuleotgo

Don't be afraid, love is the way

Shawty, I got it

You can call me monster!

Their formation changed and their main dancer, Kang Jiwoo, went in the center. The beats exploded and then the four sang in chorus while dancing. Their voices completely blended.

I'm creepin' in your heart, babe

dwijibgo muneoteurigo samkyeo

geurae neol humchyeo tamnikhae

neol mangchyeo noheul geoya

Their dance moves were addictive and powerful. They were completely in sync and their sharp dance line were showed.

This time, Wooin sang his solo part as their outro.

ne mamsoke gakindoen chae

jukeodo yeongwonhi sallae

Come here girl, you call me monster

(You call me monster)

ne mameuro deuleogalge

They finished their performance. At this point, the mentors did not know what to say. All of them agreed that DAWN's performance was perfect.

"Wow, I got goosebumps."

"Hey, I think I just fell in love with Kang Jisuk."

"Damn. How on earth can their main rapper sing better than me?"

"Right. Even their main dancer can sing better than me. I don't think I can confidently say that I'm a singer anymore."

"So all of them are all-rounders, huh? Damn I badly want them to adopt me."

"Do you think Wooin will give me a song if I ask him?" One trainee asked his friend.

"Of course, not. Why would he waste his songs for you? You should improve your skills first."

The trainees became noisy after witnessing DAWN's performance.

"Your performance was just WOW. Everyone of you was able to highlight their strengths. You planned your performance really well." Lee Seung-gi (mc) praised.

"I really enjoyed your performance. Your first song mainly focused on your vocals and it was an emotional song. Your second song focuses on your dancing skills and it was a strong and powerful song. You were able to show that you can do any type of concepts." Choi Young-joon (dance trainer) said.

"Thank you so much." DAWN said in unison.

"Did Kang Wooin produced these songs too?" Soyou (vocal trainer) asked.

"Ah yes. But the three of them helped me too. Gangseok gave me an idea about the beats cause he knows how to play drums. Jisuk helped me compose the lyrics. Jiwoo helped with eating snacks." Wooin said, teasing his brother again. The people on the set laughed.

"Come on hyung! How am I supposed to help when I was just 12 years old at that time." Jiwoo protested.

"12 years old?" The trainers and trainees looked baffled.

"Ahh... we made these song three years ago." Wooin clarified.

"What the hell..." The people reacted.

"You're a monster." Soyou (vocal trainer) commented. "Can I maybe receive a song after the show's over?" Soyou joked.

"Of course it would be an honor." Wooin said feeling happy and proud.

"Trainee Kang Jisuk... your voice was truly special. You were able to express and convey emotions through your singing. You truly shined in your performance." Lee Hong-gi (vocal trainer) said.

"You did great but..." Bae Yoon-jeong (dance trainer) started and the four felt nervous. "you need to improve your stamina. You were fine after 1 song but after finishing your 2nd song, you were all completely out of breath and you looked like you would lose consciousness at any moment. When you perform at your own concert soon, you need to be able to perform at least 4 songs. So you should work with your stamina." DAWN nodded at her words.

"Who made your choreography?" Bae Yoon-jeong (dance trainer) asked.

"I did." Kang Jiwoo raised his shaking hands.

"Why are you shaking? Do I look like someone who will eat you?"

"A-Ah y-yes..." Jiwoo honestly answered. To everyone's shock, the strict dance trainer actually laughed out loud.

"You're free to join my agency any time." Bae Yoon-jeong said. Again, everyone was shocked as this is the first time that she invited someone.

"Thank you very much!" Jiwoo felt happy that he was recognized.

"Trainee Choi Gangseok.. I really loved your rap and I hope to see you debut successfully and bring more attention to rap artists." Cheetah complimented. "And Kang Wooin.. It says here that you are the lead vocalist of the group. Although you probably prefer singing, I hope that you also practice your rap because you have great potential in it." DAWN thanked them every time they receive compliments.

"Hah.. with such skills, why haven't you debuted yet?" Lee Seung-gi (mc) wondered. "Let me announce the results. Congratulations! All of you received an A." The trainees clapped for them.

The four came back to their seats and the grade evaluation continued.

"Hello! I am Jung Chanwoo, 17 years old." The independent trainee introduced himself.

Wooin suddenly became lost in thoughts as the trainee's face and name was familiar. Jung Chanwoo debuted as a solo artist in his past life. In fact, he was popular. Alongside being a solo artist, he represented Korea in various figure skating competitions around the world. He has soft features and his skin is really pale. He was slim and sexy so a lot of controversies about whether he really is a boy or just pretending to be one. People made jokes about his physique.

Sasaeng fans then revealed that Jung Chanwoo is gay and because of this, he was sexualize a lot. A lot of men joked about wanting to b*ng him (sorry for the word).

[ a sasaeng, or sasaeng fan, is an obsessive fan who stalks or engages in other behavior constituting an invasion of the privacy of Korean idols, drama actors or other public figures]

Unable to bear the constant stare of people and their disrespectful remarks and actions towards him, Jung Chanwoo committed suicide.

The whole nation grieved for him. A lot of people, specially females protested and demanded that government should implement a law against such defamatory actions.

The government then created a law that protects the rights of people against sexual acts.

The Korea improved but they cannot bring back a life that was sacrificed for it.

It was a truly an unfortunate and sad event. Jung Chanwoo's name brought honor in Korea through his participations in figure skating competitions. He brought home with him a lot of awards. And he was also an amazing artist. He was an all-rounder (can sing, dance, and rap). A lot of people who worked with him also praised his attitude and dedication towards his work. The nation really grieved for the loss of such a talented and genuine person.

Wooin willed himself to help Jung Chanwoo this time. Wooin firmly believes that a person's sexual orientation should never be a hindrance in achieving their dreams. Rather, people should accept them as they have done nothing wrong. They are just being themselves.

Wooin wanted to debut with Jung Chanwoo as he also admired Chanwoo's talent. And if they debut together, Wooin would be able to look after him and make sure that he would not commit suicide this time.

Jung Chanwoo was put into B class. At this time, Chanwoo is still nowhere near the level he achieved in Wooin's past life. It was understandable as Chanwoo debuted when he was 20 years old. And right now, Chanwoo is just 17.

'I'll help him improve so he can debut with me.' Wooin thought.

Wooin recalled the people who he wanted to debut with..

Choi Gangseok (his bestfriend) - main rapper

Kang Jiwoo (his brother) - main dancer

Yoo Jisuk - main vocalist

Jay - vocalist and potential leader

Lee Hajin - dancer

Jung Chanwoo - visual or face of the group

Kang Wooin (himself) - producer

'Exactly seven... I just hope that we will be the winners of this survival show.

"THE GRADE EVALUATION ENDS HERE. Congratulations trainees!" Lee Seung-gi (mc) cued. "Now then, please listen carefully for the camp rules."

"This is a two-story building. Here in first floor, we will film ranking announcements as well as eliminations. The second floor is an empty and wide space that we would refer to as the Main Hall. That place is where all of you will gather for mission announcements."

"Beside this main building is a huge building that will serve as your home during your stay here."

"There will be 5 practice rooms, one for each class. Don't worry cause the practice rooms are wide and spacious. It would be more than enough to accommodate all of you. Now, we made a rule that prohibits you to visit other practice rooms aside from yours. For example, trainees in B class cannot go to the practice room of A class, C class, D class, and F class. But! A class trainees are exempted from this rule. They are free to visit any practice room during their free time."

"Your rooms will also be inside the building. 4 trainees will share a room. And take note, you will sleep in double deck beds. So I advice you to be fast in choosing whether you want to be on top or bottom as it's gonna be first come first served basis. Again! A class is an exception cause they will be roomed by pair only. And they will have single beds."

"There is only one canteen, but the dishes served will also be based on your class. Now that you've known how privileged A class is gonna be, I hope that you work hard to dethrone them." The set was filled with noise.

"A class just you wait!"

"Yeaaaah! We're gonna replace you!"

"Now, I'll give you time to assign your roommates. Remember, different classes are not allowed to share the same room. So a B class trainee can only share a room with their fellow B class trainee." The mc finished explaining.

"We can't let the two of you be in the same room. Just thinking of how chaotic the two of you are gonna be, makes my head hurt." Gangseok said, referring to Wooin and Jiwoo.

"Yeah. I'm gonna share a room with Jiwoo. Wooin-hyung should share with Gangseok-hyung." Jisuk agreed with Gangseok.

"Wooin-hyung wants to share a room with me and Jisuk also wants to. Ahhh it's so hard being popular." Jiwoo rubbed the sides of his forehead, faking a headache.

"As if I would like to! Stop assuming!" Wooin retaliated.

Gangseok and Jisuk ignored the two. They still can't understand how the relationship of the two works. Sometimes they (Wooin and Jiwoo) stick to each other and act like lovers and sometimes they are like enemies and continue bickering.

The trainees all slept early as they were certain that tomorrow's gonna be a long day for them.

Capítulo 9: First Mission

The trainees are now in the Main Hall. They are grouped by levels. Just as Wooin expected, they were given training clothes. Trainees in class A are wearing white sweatshirts and sweatpants with a royal blue crown print in their left chest. Class B trainees are wearing orange sweatshirts and sweatpants. Class C trainees wear yellow, green for Class D, and grey for Class F. The royal blue crown is only present in Class A. It is the symbol of their supremacy.

The trainees in lower classes are clearly jealous of the crown. Who wouldn't when it looked really cool. Meanwhile, trainees in Class F joked about how dull they look with their grey training suits. They are even saying that they will look like dirt when put beside Class A trainees who are wearing an all white training suits. Thankfully, they were standing quite far from Class A trainees as they were arranged based on classes.

"Trainees, here is your first mission." Lee Seung-gi (mc) started. A video played in the huge screen of the Main Hall. It was a dance choreography of a song.

"The song that played just now is gonna be your theme song. You will perform this in M Countdown as the opening!" The trainees cheered.

M Countdown is a music program. The show features appearances by popular music artists. Different Kpop idols will perform live on stage. An award will be given to the idol group or solo artist that will receive the most votes for their single (song).

"Now onto your first mission... We will give you only three days to memorize the whole song. From the lyrics down to the dance choreography." Different reactions can be seen from the trainees. Some expressed their distress as they know that learning the dance while memorizing the song's lyrics in just three days is gonna be hard. While some are confident that they will be able to do well.

"After three days, you will record yourself dancing and singing live in front of the camera. You are only allowed to film once. So make sure that you are mentally prepared because even if you make mistakes, you can't repeat filming. The filming will be done in your respective class' practice rooms all the while your fellow trainees will watch you perform in front. So I hope that you will not be pressured by your fellow trainees' stares and just think of doing your best because you will be reevaluated. We will promote trainees who did well and we will also demote trainees who failed to reach our expectations. So trainees in lower classes, now is your chance to move up the ranks." The trainees cheered. Fire lit up their eyes. They look ready to fight haha.

"The final A class trainees after the reevaluation will be the center of the performance in M Countdown. Meaning, they will be in front of all of you and they will have more screen time. Behind them will be B class trainees and so on. So if you don't wanna be put behind and become like back-up dancers, you should do your best. Your only goal should be the highest— A Class."

"The official start of the '3-day' count will be tomorrow. You will also be following your official schedule tomorrow and a mentor will come to your practice room. For now, you are free to do whatever you like. Think of this as your free day. You can take this opportunity to get to know each other as you were not able to do so yesterday because we finished shooting late; you can also rest in your room if you prefer doing so or; you can practice the song and dance beforehand if you like." Lee Seung-gi excused himself.

"Hyung what are we gonna do today?" Jiwoo asked his older brother.

"We're gonna learn the choreography beforehand of course." Wooin answered while looking around, trying to find someone.

When Wooin spotted Jung Chanwoo, he walked towards his direction. Of course, Jiwoo, Jisuk, and Gangseok followed him from behind. It was natural for them to stick with their leader anywhere he go.

-----

Jung Chanwoo didn't know what to do. He is not used to initiating a conversation so although he wanted to have at least one friend, he find it hard to approach someone.

He couldn't understand how people can be friends with anyone even when they only knew each other few moments ago.

He was frustrated. He is an individual trainee so he was left alone while the trainees around him are already engaging in groups. He turned around and was about to leave the main hall to just stay inside his room to sleep or something, but he heard his voice being called so he stopped in his tracks.

"Jung Chanwoo-shi..." He looked at the owner of the voice and was shocked to see Kang Wooin with the rest of the members of DAWN.

"Y-yes?" Chanwoo answered, still starstruck.

"Woooaaah hyung! You're so pretty!" Jiwoo shamelessly said. Noticing Chanwoo's discomfort, Wooin grabbed his brother's head and forced him to bow.

"Please excuse his rudeness. This brat is just senseless." Wooin apologized to Chanwoo. Wooin knows that Chanwoo has an inferiority complex when regards to his feminine looks.

Jiwoo finally realized his actions and sincerely apologized to Chanwoo.

"Hello Chanwoo-shi. My name is Kang Wooin and this is Choi Gangseok, we're 17 years old— same as you."

"Ah.. yes. Hi, I'm Jung Chanwoo." Surprised that Wooin of DAWN actually knows him, even his age, Chanwoo shyly bowed.

"This is Yoo Jisuk, he's 16 years old. And this is our youngest, Kang Jiwoo, 15 years old." Wooin also introduced their maknaes. "We're gonna practice the choreography of the song. Wanna join us?" Wooin smiled as he invite Chanwoo.

Jung Chanwoo felt a surge of emotions. He felt happy and relieved that someone approached him. Specially since it was DAWN, who every trainees here admire. He also felt touched that someone who is famous and seems unreachable knows his name and age. And at the same time, he felt confused. So he can't help but ask.

"I would really love the idea. But why me? I will not be of any help for your practice." Chanwoo asked Wooin.

"Why not? It's not like we approached you because we want something. We just want to be your friend. And you will not be able to help. But that's just now. It hasn't been long since you've been training after all. You may not be considered as great for now but I can see a lot of potential from you. I was actually impressed by your grade evaluation performance. It was a pity that you were not put in A class." Wooin assured Chanwoo. He did not want him to think that they have hidden agenda behind approaching him.

"Wooin-hyung you talked like we've trained for years already. We haven't even trained professionally yet. LOL" Jiwoo teased.

"We were enrolled in a music school, stupid. That's what you get for sleeping through the classes." Jisuk smacked the back Jiwoo's head.

"That's because Wooin-hyung teaches better than our boring professors!" Jiwoo debated.

Chanwoo laughed at their silliness.

"Wow.. you're really pre-" Jiwoo was about to compliment Chanwoo's looks again when Gangseok covered his mouth. He did it so easily as Gangseok is taller by a few centimeters.

"So what do you think of joining us?"

"Sure." Chanwoo agreed.

Wooin smiled contentedly. He focused on Jung Chanwoo first because he knew that Lee Hajin and Jay would be able to handle themselves. Lee Hajin is good at dancing and Jay is under a big company which is known for its harsh yet effective training. Wooin is certain that they will be able to pass this mission with flying honors even without his intervention. The problem is with Jung Chanwoo who has a little above average skills. Unlike Jay who shines in vocal position and Hajin who shines in dance, Jung Chanwoo can do good but he won't stand-out. He is pretty and attractive, but a lot of trainees are attractive as well. So he wouldn't get that much advantage just from his visuals. Even in his past life, Chanwoo only survived 2 missions. After that, he was eliminated.

Wooin intend to help Chanwoo leap over time and improve by bounds. And as soon as possible, he wanted Chanwoo to reach the level he was in, in Wooin's past life.

The Main Hall is so spacious that it was more than enough to accommodate 105 trainees. It covered the whole floor of a huge building after all. Many trainees remained in the main hall and practiced in groups. While some went to the other building where the practice rooms for classes are located. None of the trainees went to their dorm to rest. They knew that they couldn't afford idling around when their screen time and chance to earn popularity is at stake with this first mission.

DAWN and Chanwoo chose to stay in the main hall.

Jisuk asked a staff for an IPad. Because their personal mobile devices were confiscated, K-NET prepared IPads. Only the demo video of the theme song is present in the IPad. They are prohibited to open anything aside from the demo video.

Jisuk requested 2 IPads from the staff. One for Jiwoo, who will lead them in learning the dance choreography. And one for the rest of them to share so that they can familiarize themselves with the song.

Jiwoo placed the IPad against the wall and began copying the choreography.

'Is he even real?' Jung Chanwoo gaped in shock at how fast Kang Jiwoo is absorbing the choreography. Chanwoo looked at the rest of DAWN. They are not paying attention! 'Well I guess they are already used to seeing Kang Jiwoo this way.'

While Jiwoo is dancing on the corner, Wooin, Gangseok, and Jisuk sat on the floor. Seeing that Chanwoo is still standing while watching Jiwoo, Wooin held Chanwoo's hand and urged him to sit with them so they could watch the demo video together.

Their position looked like this:

Gangseok - Wooin - Chanwoo - Jisuk

Wooin let Chanwoo sit on the center so that he would feel included and comfortable.

While watching the video, Wooin and Jisuk gave him pointers. They told him ideas on how to sing the theme song effectively. Chanwoo just nodded every time. He appreciate their advice and he was amazed on how vast their knowledge was. Chanwoo did not think much of this as he already knows that DAWN studied in a music school.

However, Chanwoo did not know that DAWN is not enrolled to an ordinary music school. Rather, DAWN are students of an elite music school that boasts the best facilities and where excelling students aiming for the top of music industry gathers.

After few minutes, Jiwoo taught them the choreography step by step. DAWN could do it in one try but Chanwoo made a few mistakes here and there. DAWN helped him patiently.

When they played the song, Chanwoo had a hard time matching the beats of the song. The choreography looked easy on first glance but in actuality, it was extremely hard as good balance was needed because there are moves that required them to just stand on one foot while dancing.

Chanwoo felt like crying. He's only being a burden to DAWN who was able to follow the beats easily. DAWN encouraged him by saying that they were having fun teaching him. Jiwoo did not scold Chanwoo despite him being a perfectionist. It was because just looking at Chanwoo's pretty face made Jiwoo unable to scold him.

'Even I received harsh criticisms from Jiwoo. Chanwoo-hyung is lucky.' Jisuk thought as he remembered the days when Jiwoo scolded him a lot when he made mistakes in the choreography.

Their group was filled with laugher, drawing the attention of other trainees to them. When they saw that DAWN is personally teaching an independent trainee, they were jealous. But they are not immature to pick up a fight. Instead, they made a mental note to ask for DAWN's guidance some other time.

When the clock struck at 12 o'clock, they went to the canteen and ate together.

After that, DAWN and Chanwoo spent the whole afternoon learning the dance. Of course, they took breaks in between time. They also played around a little.

Jiwoo particularly enjoyed the playing part. Because he is always the only one who knows how to have fun. His Wooin-hyung is calm and is always busy planning things for their career, his Gangseok-hyung is quiet almost all of the time, and his friend Jisuk is mature for their age and only cares about books and photography.

Jiwoo and Chanwoo became close instantly as they have common interest— gaming.

Wooin watched them with a smile. He felt like a father watching his son make a friend for the first time. Chanwoo will have a hard time. I'm pretty sure Jiwoo would follow him around like a puppy.

'The brat found his owner.' Gangseok thought and almost laughed but hid it.

-----

After 3 days...

The five mentors and the mc are currently in a conference room. They are seated and in front of them is a screen (TV). They are about to watch the solo video of trainees performing the theme song.

"Okay, Let's start with A class trainees." Lee Seung-gi (mc) started. "Do Hyun, a trainee from IST Entertainment." He introduced before playing the video.

"Oh no."

"My goodness.. He's in trouble."

The dance trainers reacted when they saw that Do Hyun, an A class trainee, was unable to perform according to their expectations and standards. Do Hyun looked like he couldn't remember the lyrics because of nervousness. He became distracted and made mistakes in the dance choreography too.

"I think we can turn this off. This is worse than I thought." Bae Yoon-jeong, the strict dance trainer said.

"Next up, we have Hwan Jin-ho from C9 Entertainment."

They were relieved when he did great at first but...

"His energy is depleting as he goes."

"Yeah... he's trying to hype himself but balance was already broken."

"Haaa.. why did we even put them in A class?"

The mentors were disappointed that the aces are not doing well.

"Jay (korean name: Park Jongsung) from JYB."

"I like his gaze."

"He has a confident expression.."

"I think his vocal is A level."

"He is a bright kid." The trainees complimented Jay.

"This boy (Jay)... stood at the back and cried during our lesson." Bae Yoon-jeong started.

"Why? Because he couldn't do well?

"He seems to have practiced ruthlessly, but his dancing is still not up to par yet." The dance trainer added.

"But he did great in the video."

"Yeah. Looks like he did not give up." Bae Yoon-jeong smiled slightly.

"Oh.. I heard that Jiwoo of DAWN helped Jay." The mc informed.

The mentors exchanged knowing looks.

Capítulo 10: Reevaluation

-flashback-

"Five, six, seven, eight!"

Today is Class A's first day of practice. Bae Yoon-jeong (dance mentor) came to their practice room to teach the dance and monitor their progress.

"Jay! That's not it! You need to move faster. You're too slow!" The dance trainer yelled.

He made them repeat the dance again.

"Jay! Only you are not able to match the beat of the song! You were so bad, your fellow trainees are suffering!" Bae Yoon-jeong scolded Jay once again.

Jay's eyes watered. He moved back to hide his tears. He felt frustrated that only him was messing up and causing trouble for his classmates.

"What? Why? Why are you crying? Haven't you learned the choreography yesterday during your free time?" Bae Yoon-jeong asked.

"I.. I'm sorry... I tried learning it but it's hard."

"But you danced well during the grade evaluation. What happened to you?"

"I did well that time because I already know the song and we practiced it a lot."

"Haaa.. this won't do. At this point you'll be moved down by ranks." Bae Yoon-jeong rubbed her temples.

Wooin raised his hands. "Uhm... teacher, may I teach him? If that's fine with Jay-shi of course."

"Huh? Are you sure? But you will lose time for your own practice." Wooin nodded as an answer. "Okay. Are you fine with it, Jay?" She asked Jay.

"A-Ah yes.."

"Teacher, may I join them?" Jiwoo asked.

"Suit yourself." Bae Yoon-jeong allowed. "There's a spare room beside your canteen. The space is small but that will do since there will only be three of you there. Here's the key."

Wooin, Jiwoo, and Jay went outside while their classmates continued learning the choreography from their dance trainer.

"Jay-hyung, which are the parts that you're messing up?" Jiwoo asked when they finally reached the room.

"I can do the first verse just fine but I keep messing up the step in the chorus."

"At this part, do it like this~" Jiwoo demonstrated the step.

"Haa.. don't you think he would understand more if you also tell him how to move?" Wooin sighed. "Jay-hyung, during that part, bring your right foot and left hand out at the same time.."

Wooin thought that the problem is not about Jay being unable to Jay follow the steps when Bae Yoon-jeong was teaching them. Wooin theoretherize that Jay is one of the people who learns through verbal teaching. So Wooin tried explaining the steps to Jay. And thankfully, he was right.

Wooin's verbal teaching combined with Jiwoo's demonstration, Jay was able to progress a lot.

"Should we take a break? It's already past 12 o'clock and I'm pretty sure you two are already starving." Jay suggested. Although he wanted to practice more, he couldn't just let Wooin and Jiwoo skip lunch.

They went to the canteen and found Gangseok, Jisuk, and Chanwoo eating together.

After getting their food on the service counter, the three of them joined the other three.

Wooin introduced Chanwoo and Jay to each other. After that, they had a harmonious lunch.

After eating, Wooin, Jiwoo, and Jay continued their practice until dawn.

At the end of the day, Jay finally learned the choreography and danced perfectly. It was all thanks to the effective teaching style of Wooin and Jiwoo. Jay thanked them and promised to return the favor if given the opportunity.

-end of flashback-

"Considering that DAWN did not receive any professional training yet, Wooin and Jiwoo did a great job teaching. Jay's really lucky that the two helped him. I mean, we all agree that Jay improved a lot right?" Bae Yoon-jeong said.

The other mentors nodded in agreement.

"Now then, shall we continue? Next up, we have Kang Jiwoo, an independent trainee."

"The only one to steal you is me~" Kang Jiwoo sang.

[correct lyrics: Me who only waited for you."

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" The mentors burst out laughing. Even the staff who is there to film them can't help but laugh.

"The lyric change is making me crazy. Kekekekekekekekekekekeke"

"The most funny thing is, he confidently sang it and didn't even realize that he sang the wrong lyrics. He was so serious. Oh my god hahahahahahahaha."

"I can't believe that the main dancer of DAWN can sing better than most main vocalist. I mean, isn't DAWN a perfect package at this point? Why haven't they debuted yet when each one of them is basically an all-rounder."

"Right? Kang Jiwoo's vocals are stable even with him dancing powerfully. Though he should work on with memorizing the song's lyrics first. HAHAHAHA."

"I think they wanted to show their skills here so that they will receive offers from entertainment companies. They cannot debut without the help of entertainment companies after all."

"This is Choi Gangseok's video performance." Lee Seung-gi (mc) played the video.

"Ohh he changed the tone."

"He matched the song to his voice."

The mentors commented as they heard Gangseok's singing. Instead of reaching the high notes, he sang it lowly, matching his deep and husky voice. The mentors smiled because Gangseok is innovative, creative, and is not afraid of failing. Unlike the other rappers on Class A who tried desperately to reach the high notes which made their performance bad, Gangseok thought of a solution to fit the song despite his baritone voice.

"Now this is the last video from Class A. Kang Wooin from DAWN." Lee Seung-gi said.

"There's no more to say... he aced it."

"He has this outstanding charm. He has the best visual and he knows how to use it."

"Right? I almost fell in love with him haha."

"I can see no other center aside from him. I just know that he will do well as the center."

"And, he has good leadership skills. He can also produce music that is out of this world."

"Yeah. He will definitely be the trend setter of kpop music industry."

"I'm looking forward to what DAWN can show us throughout this program."

The mentors then watched Class B's performance video.

"Ohhh. As expected from a main dancer. Lee Hajin is doing great."

"The singing is a bit disappointing.." The dance mentor commented.

The next video played...

"His skills are average.." A mentor commented while watching Jung Chanwoo's video.

"Are you sure?" A mentor smirked.

"What? Why?"

"Look at his application paper. He has only been training for 6 months. And he can already perform a complete song better than trainees who trained for years. I think he has a lot of potential."

"Oh? Interesting..."

"But placing him in A is a bit.."

Wooin was deep in thoughts. Two trainees from Class B are currently seated with them in their practice room.

He expected that the other two trainees who practiced with them will be replaced. But he did not expect that Lee Hajin and Jung Chanwoo will not be promoted to A.

He is actually looking forward to being in the same practice room as the two.

'This just doesn't make sense. How are they evaluating us? Lee Hajin-hyung and Jung Chanwoo is clearly better than these two.' Wooin thought, couldn't accept that the two was not promoted. His mood went sour.

'Just wait for me.' He just sighed and thought that there will be more chances for them to rise up ranks.

Jay and Chanwoo became their friends. The two of them are always together with DAWN during their breaks and they eat together. Trainees envy the two for that.

'What's left is Lee Hajin-hyung.' Wooin was unable to help Hajin during the first mission as they focused on Jay. So he felt a little guilty.

Meanwhile, the first episode of PRODUCE 105 has been aired in the national television. It covered the grade evaluation stage of the trainees. However, the director of the show only chose the performances who he thinks will get them more views.

Those are grade evaluation of the trainees from the big companies, he also included some of the worst performances so that the show will not be boring. The highlight of the first episode is of course, DAWN.

DAWN's appearance on the show made waves online. Continuous praises for them arose and even took the number 2 spot in the trending tweets.

A lot of people are demanding for the song "Monster" and "Let go" that DAWN used in their grade evaluation to be released as a digital audio. And many also expressed that if possible, they make a practice video of the songs.

However, their wishes were fulfilled not long after with a post in DAWN's official WeTube channel. The post was accompanied by a message.

[DAWN] "Let Go" Vocal Performance

[DAWN] "Monster" Dance Performance

"Hello AXIS! Thank you all so much for your continuous support to our music. We would like to apologize because we wouldn't be able to post here for months as we participated in a show called PRODUCE 105. However, you will see us on the show and we ask that you support us. We would really love it if you will vote for us. Again, thank you so much everyone!"

Good day everyone! Kang Wooin of DAWN instructed me to post this as soon as the first episode of the show PRODUCE 105 airs. The message above was written by DAWN beforehand.

— DAWN's manager

A lot of people who didn't know DAWN before subscribed on their official WeTube channel after watching them on television.

DAWN's appearance on the show really topped up their popularity online.

There are a lot of netizens commenting that it will be impossible that DAWN will not be in the top ranks among the trainees. DAWN became the netizens favorite to debut through the show.
