The entire Earth Temple became silent.
Han Li and the Lingnan Twin Fiends were dumbfounded, glancing first at the mountain demon, then at Fang Zhou, then back at the mountain demon, and then again at Fang Zhou.
The three of them seemed to have a mental breakdown, finding it hard to comprehend the current situation.
Receiving no response, the mountain demon began to tremble uncontrollably, its entire fur shaking.
Fang Zhou heaved a sigh of relief. If he hadn't been able to intimidate the mountain demon, he had been prepared to grab Ling Xiaoyue and use her as a human bomb.
Luckily, the mountain demon knew its place, perhaps Ling Xiaoyue had indeed taught it a harsh lesson earlier.
Fang Zhou didn't let his guard down. He knew that this moment was crucial. If the mountain demon saw through his facade and became enraged, they all might die.
So he mustn't panic. He must stay calm!
He cleared his throat and imitated a leader's tone, "Aren't you going to get lost?"
After saying that, his heart raced, leaping into his throat.
The mountain demon sneaked a glance at Ling Xiaoyue, saw no movement from her, and was instantly relieved.
"Kind sir, I am extremely grateful for your mercy." The mountain demon said, not daring to raise its head, maintaining a bow as it slowly backed away. Once it left the Earth temple, it transformed into a gust of black wind and fleeing as if in escape.
The Earth temple became silent again.
Fang Zhou's heart settled, feeling his entire back soaked with sweat.
Han Li heaved a sigh of relief, casting a complicated glance at Fang Zhou, not daring to look for too long.
On the other hand, the Lingnan Twin Fiends was overcome with joy. They had thought they were doomed tonight, but they were fortunate. However, after the elation, they began to fear again, remembering their disrespectful words towards Fang Zhou.
But who could have guessed Fang Zhou's true capabilities, perhaps he enjoyed pretending to be weaker than he was.
But the expert's interests were something they didn't dare to speak or ask about.
"This…Senior…"
The woman hesitated to speak, seemingly wanting to apologize but unsure of how to begin.
Fang Zhou directly said to them, "Both of you, get out."
"Huh?"
The Lingnan Twin Fiends were stunned.
"Huh, what? Do I need to get rid of you myself?"
"No, no!"
Without minding their injuries, and without further pursuing Han Li, they hastily left the earth temple.
It was better to leave on their own than to be driven out by someone who could scare off a mountain demon.
After sending the two annoying individuals away, Fang Zhou glanced at Han Li again.
Han Li was all tensed up, ready to leave at any moment.
Fang Zhou didn't say anything and sat back by the bonfire.
It was only now that Fang Zhou truly relaxed, feeling as if he had survived a disaster.
It was fortunate he had Oscar-level acting skills and could use Ling Xiao Yue's reputation to scare off the mountain demon by pretending to have the power of Ling Xiaoyue. Otherwise, if he had given away any hint of his deception, the mountain demon could have taken him out before Ling Xiaoyue even woke up.
This made Fang Zhou feel anxious. If it wasn't for Ling Xiaoyue tonight, their fate might not have been any better than those bandits they encountered earlier.
This was just one mountain demon, and the world was full of many more demons and monsters.
This anxiety made Fang Zhou restless. Before long, he got up and walked outside the temple to a large rock, where he began to cultivate under the moonlight.
Inside the temple, Han Li glanced at Ling Xiaoyue, who was sleeping soundly, and took out a small bottle from her bosom, drinking some liquid from it.
Her face immediately flushed, and her breathing became steady.
After putting the bottle away, Han Li stood up, walked outside, and saw Fang Zhou meditating on the stone.
His eyes were closed, his body was sitting straight, and his face was calm as water. He seemed to radiate a faint glow, and the moonlight turned into twinkling stars surrounding him.
Han Li was slightly distracted by this scene. She placed her hand over her slightly heaving chest, feeling her accelerating heartbeat.
After watching for a while, Han Li looked away, left the temple, and walked into the forest.
Fang Zhou was immersed in his cultivation, unaware of how much time had passed, when he suddenly caught a familiar aroma.
It was the scent of roasted chicken.
He opened his eyes and saw that the moon had set. The surroundings were enveloped in darkness, marking the darkest moment before dawn.
Only the bonfire at the Earth Temple was still burning, seemingly the sole light in this dark world.
Fang Zhou jumped off the rock and walked towards the bonfire. As he got closer, he noticed a pile of feathers at the entrance, indicating that some wild chicken had met its fate.
Inside the temple, there was a golden-brown wild chicken roasting over the bonfire. It was big and plump, with chicken fat dripping into the fire, sizzling as it fell.
Han Li was the one roasting the chicken, and she seemed a bit awkward when Fang Zhou came in.
Fang Zhou quickly tore off two strips of cloth, ran over to Ling Xiaoyue, and stuffed them into her nostrils.
If she was awakened by the aroma, nobody else would get to eat.
After doing this, Fang Zhou clapped his hands and turned to Han Li, smiling, "Is this chicken... yours?"
Han Li nodded, sat up straight, and bowed deeply to Fang Zhou, "Senior, thank you for your timely help earlier."
Unwilling to reject such gratitude, Fang Zhou waved his hand dismissively, "You don't need to call me 'senior'. My surname is Fang, you can call me...uh..."
For a moment, he wasn't sure what name to offer Han Li, not wanting to fully reveal his identity.
"Mr. Fang!"
Han Li caught on quickly and adjusted her address. In this life, unlike Fang Zhou's previous life, the title 'Mr.' was rare and valuable, irrespective of gender.
Fang Zhou does not understand the customs here, but he finds the term pleasing to the ear, so he does not correct it. Pointing at the roasted chicken, he starts to drool.
Ever since leaving Qing De City, he had nearly forgotten the taste of meat.
Han Li smiles a little and nods, "Mr. Fang's kindness in saving my life is something I cannot repay. The only thing I can offer is my cooking skill, I hope they amuse you."
She has been traveling outside for years, living alone for a long time, and has honed her cooking skills. She always carried spices and salt with her and would occasionally indulge in a feast.
She had noticed Fang Zhou's distressed expression when he ate dry food earlier, so she caught a wild chicken hoping to cheer him up. Han Li was very pleased with her judgement.
When the chicken was cooked, Fang Zhou and Han Li share the chicken. Han Li only took one leg and gave the rest to Fang Zhou.
As he enjoyed the delicious roasted chicken, Fang Zhou felt a pang of envy. Most people who traveled through time conquered girls with their culinary skills, yet here he was, conquered by a girl's cooking.
He felt like a total failure in life.
"By the way, are the twins from Lingnan your enemies?"
While eating, Fang Zhou casually chatted with Han Li.
Not that he had any ulterior motives; he simply wanted to learn more about the cultivation world from her.
Fang Zhou's initial understanding of the cultivation world had come from Li Ruyu, but her explanations were vague and sometimes misleading, with many crucial details omitted.
And as for Ling Xiaoyue, there was no hope. She had no interest in discussing mundane matters with Fang Zhou. Chatting with her would always lead to distractions.
So, Fang Zhou's current understanding of the cultivation world could be said to have been completely in the dark.
