"How was it?" He asked.
"How was what?" She asked without looking up at him.
"The Vampire Regions, I hear you just returned." He peered down at her, his gaze never wavering. Mauve could see him stare at her but could almost feel it.
"Better than I expected."
She glanced up just as he frowned, obviously not pleased with her reply.
"I am sure you have a better response than that. You ventured into a place most people don't return from."
"I am alive which means there was some good to it."
His expression turned sad. "I am sorry," he said. "I didn't know until…"
"There is no need for you to apologize," she looked up at him with a bright smile.
"Your fake smile hurts even more. If only I was around…"
"It wouldn't have changed anything and you know this," she interrupted.
