"Coffee?".
"Go through the recent mails".
"See me at my office shortly".
"Book an appointment with...".
"Discard the deal".
"It was either do this or that. Did he think I applied to work as his personal maid or what? It seemed like he was punishing me like I committed an offence. I mean, I'm tired as fuck", Zoey cried to herself on her way to her office, hoping no one heard her.
She finally got the chance to settle down as she fell back to her seat, extremely exhausted, heaving out a sigh of relief. She shut her eyes as she inhaled the fresh breeze blowing across the window. It was her best relief remedy.
"Damn!", she exclaimed, jumping to her feet. She had nearly forgotten about the documents. They were really important to her at this point in time. It was like her dad's life depended on it.
It did, honestly.
She tumbled her desk in search of it. "It must be somewhere around", she affirmed strongly. She was pretty sure she came along with it. She had handled lots of files earlier, it could be she mixed it up, probably.
She had literally turned her office upsidedown– the drawers, her bag, nothing was an exception, but she still couldn't find it. "What the actual heck is going on!?", she heard herself screaming.
That could possibly mean two things...
"Has someone been spying on me? Or, did I accidentally forget it at...", she paused, trying to recall her past activities for the day, orderly. Who knew where she might have dropped it?
"The fucking cab!", loud squeals escaped her mouth. She recalled her mum's car broke down in the middle of the road and she had to use a cab to reach her destination. It had been close to five hours since she arrived...
And, the driver was gone.
From the outlook, she wouldn't even remember what he looked like if given a second chance to see him again. She had already made a promise to her mom on the money.
How could she be this careless?
She would have herself to blame if anything happened to her dad. She could even hate herself, but of what use will it be supposing she couldn't save the situation?
....
"Our boss requests to see you", a feminine voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Tears were formed at the corner of her eyes, she dabbed her eyes with a hankie and turned around.
She wasn't surprised by who she saw, his one and only nosy secretary. "Oh, Evelyn. Thanks, I'll be with him in a while", she forced a smile across her face. It wasn't really obvious.
"Don't keep him waiting", Evelyn advised with a suspicious look in her eyes, scanning the messy office. Half a minute gone and she remained in a standstill position. She made it appear like Zoey was a suspect and she was a spy.
Zoey folded her arms, watching her closely, tapping her left foot against the tiles, impatiently. She scoffed, "I heard you right. You've overstayed your welcome, kindly use the door".
Evelyn's gaze met up with hers. "I was about leaving", she lied shamelessly to cover herself up and walked away.
"Thank goodness", Zoey sighed. She quickly put the office in good shape, not the best she could at the moment.
She made her way to the elevator and could only wonder why he sent for her. Maybe, another errand? She sighed.
