"Good morning, Boss".
"Good morning to you, sir".
"Good day, sir". And unending morning greetings from his workers as he stepped his foot into Garcia's Duds. His face was lit with a smile as he walked pass them, responding to their greetings, one after the other.
"Let me help you with your briefcase, sir", Evelyn offered.
He smiled warmly. "No, it's fine. Thank you", he declined politely. His eyes were searching for someone but she wasn't within that vicinity.
"Is Zoey at work already?", he inquired.
"Yes sir. She had some previous work to tidy up", Evelyn explained.
"Oh, that's good. Have a nice day", he said as he excused himself to his private elevator room and then, to the 23rd floor, where his office was.
...
Buzz buzz. The sound of the ringing telephone distracted Zoey from her work.
She picked up the telephone and placed it on her right ear. "Hello?", she said, waiting for a response.
"Brew me a cup of coffee", his voice sounded deep over the phone. He wasn't even polite enough to add please, she sighed.
"Sorry, how do you like your-
He cut in sharply. "Black coffee, no sugar", he hung up the phone. She couldn't even remember the exact floor the coffee brewery was.
"10, 11, 12... maybe it's on the 12th floor", she assumed as she pressed the elevator button and got inside. The elevator finally beeped as it pulled to a halt on the 12th floor.
Her eyes scanned the vicinity when she was out till it landed on the right spot. Her assumption was true. "Thank goodness", she heaved a sigh of relief as she walked into the brewery.
She brewed his cup of coffee and made out with it in a tray. "I hope he doesn't spit it on my face", she wished silently and walked over to the the elevator room. She had tasted it earlier and it didn't seem so awful. She was the worst at making coffee.
....
A knock came through his door.
"Come in", Adrian's eyes were still glued to his desktop screen.
"Er, here is your coffee", she dropped it on the left side of his desk and cleared her throat, unsatisfied by his ignorance.
He furrowed his brows at her longing presence. "Do you need something?".
"You didn't dismiss me yet, or did you?", her lips curled into a faint smile. She wasn't getting his attention as she had expected.
Adrian lifted his gaze to meet with hers. "I see. Thank you, Zoey. You may leave now".
He had temporarily forgotten about the hotel incident, but not until his eyes caught her hair as she made a half-turn to exit his office.
"...a long blonde hair", the receptionist's voice echoed in his head.
"Wait!", he blurted out.
"Do you need something?", she mimicked his previous statement with a smirk. He growled at the back of his throat.
He gave it a second thought. "Nevermind". After all, she wasn't the only lady with a blonde hair.
