The force of the grenade explosion was much more powerful than they expected. Loud ringing sounds filled their ear drums, making them temporarily deaf for a few seconds.
The explosion was also strong enough to lift their cart, making it ride only on its front wheels.
Kelvin, Jason and Muna were clearly panicked by this. Though the mine cart was moving faster now, it was only moving on two wheels, and any more speed will make them crash really hard. So Muna quickly shouted:
“Lean; Lean backwards!!!”
They all leaned back as quickly as they could, and together, they were able to put enough weight to make the cart land back on all four wheels.
With the cart moving in a stable position, they looked back to see the after math of the explosion.
The grenade explosion was strong enough to shake the already weak walls of the mine tunnel, making a large number of rocks and boulders to come crashing down on the spider monkeys, killing them on the spot. Even the spider monkeys that were running on the walls couldn’t escape the flames of the explosion.
“I did it; I actually did it!!” Jason shouted with relief.
“You mean “we” did it. Honestly that was intense.” Muna said.
“Now we just have to focus on getting the hell out of here.” Kelvin added.
“Did you guys see how I took out those monkeys with the grenade?! I was totally awesome; is that the best you can throw at us, Ms. Everdale?!” Jason shouted once again while pointing upwards.
Not long after Jason’s statement, they began to hear loud footsteps coming from behind. The three of them slowly turned and looked backwards.
The footstep drew closer and closer until a large hand could be seen, smashing through the boulders that fell during the explosion.
The large boulders fell to reveal a lager sized spider monkey, but with a different body structure.
Instead of the body of a monkey, the creature had the body of a gorilla. The gorilla looking spider beast, still had long spider legs on its back but the legs were longer.
“You just had to run your big mouth Jason; now we have to deal with this creature.” Muna said, with anger written on her face.
“Plus the gorilla beast doesn’t seem too happy to see us.” Kelvin added.
To confirm Kelvin’s words, the beast roared and slammed its massive hands on the ground multiple times, causing the entire mine to shake.
The gorilla beast then glared at the three of them and began a hot pursuit, running after the cart.
Since the spider gorilla beast was larger in size, it was able to cover more grounds, and was gradually closing the distance between them.
“This is bad; can’t this thing move any faster?!!!” Jason asked, looking at the rampaging spider gorilla beast.
“No, it can’t. And the compass says to keep moving forward.” Muna replied, as she looked at the compass pointer.
“Hopefully, we will reach the mine exit at the end of this tunnel.”
“That is if we don’t get trampled by the mutant gorilla.” Kelvin said.
The gorilla spider beast let out a loud ear piercing roar, and grabbed a huge chunk of rock from the tunnel walls. Using its spider legs for support, the gorilla beast threw the rocks in the direction of the mine cart.
Kelvin, Jason and Muna got down and dodged the rock before it could hit them.
After the failed attack, the gorilla spider beast went on a rampage and started throwing more rocks.
“Guys look; it’s the mine exit.” Muna said, looking at the light at the end of the tunnel.
Kelvin and Jason looked and saw the mine exit. They were all really happy to know that they would be leaving the mine soon. But as they drew closer to the light, their happiness turned to despair.
A few distance ahead of them, was a deep and long ditch, which cut off the mine railway track. The ditch created a sort of trench between the railway track and the mine exit.
“How the hell are we supposed to cross that?” Jason asked in frustration.
“I guess we have no other choice but to jump.” Kelvin replied.
“But what if we don’t make it? I think the trench is too wide for us to make the jump.” Muna said.
“Then we just have to take a gamble on that.”
They drew closer and closer to the trench until they were just a few distance away from it.
They were in a really dire situation. The gorilla spider beast was still running after them, and they also had to jump over a seemingly bottomless and wide trench.
The mine cart eventually reached the ditch, but before the cart could fall into it, Kelvin, Jason and Muna took a wide leap of faith, and jumped out right on time, not caring about their container and supplies in the cart.
Kelvin and Muna, were able to jump high enough, and crashed hard on the other side of the trench. Jason however, wasn’t so lucky and was about to fall into the dark bottomless trench.
Kelvin saw this, and before Jason could fall into the trench, Kelvin grabbed him by the hand, and quickly pulled him up.
The gorilla spider beast stopped running and stood on its back spider legs, while glaring at the three of them with anger.
Honestly, they all expected the worst to happen, but the gorilla spider beast just slammed its hands on the ground, and walked back into the mine.
“That was a close one. I wonder what would have happened if the gorilla mutant crossed over.” Muna said, as she bent over to catch her breath.
“Yeah, I guess we were lucky this time. So where are we going to next?” Kelvin asked.
Muna brought out the map and compass, which were the only two items she took from the cart including her weapons.
She looked at the map and said:
“The white flag is located in a temple that is not so far from here.”
“Umm, you guys should come and see this.” Jason said as he walked out of the mine.
Kelvin and Muna joined him and they were shocked by what they saw.
