Capítulo 4: Chapter 4

The private plane glided smoothly through the clouds.

Selwynn leaned back against the chair restrained, an empty shot glass before him and an ashtray already filled to the brim.

The only other person on the plane, Cate, flicked the lighter gently and lit his fifth cigarette for the night.

The shareholders and government heads also attached great importance to this bidding.

The company has strong relations in the city and even though they had originally started in the chaotic construction industry, it had gradually progressed into real estate and investment banking, at least on the surface.

Gangs, casinos, guns, and drug trade, the Arlington company dabbled in most of the underground markets but they had the most connections in the gun export.

His hands were never clean. But when he died in his previous life, it was ridiculous that he was never charged with any of the crimes that he had committed.

At least then, his death wouldn't be so meaningless.

A poor, miserable scapegoat.

He knows that the government will announce policies related to urban integration soon in Norwegia and this plot of land was crucial, without it, there was no guarantee that other gangs wouldn't take the opportunity to swallow a part of Norwegia's rather chaotic coastal trade syndicate.

The Norwegian side knew this and has been acting rampant in recent months because although these gangs were powerful, the Norwegian gang is still a local snake.

Selwynn flicked the soot from the cigarette onto the gold-plated ashtray beside him watching it sizzle.

He felt the plane suddenly jerk with violent turbulence, and his body shook slightly. The sweet female voice spoke in unorthodox English, and the gentle voice seemed to be slowly approaching and amplified from a distant place. "Passengers, the plane has encountered uneven airglow and turbulence, please don't leave your seats, and fasten your seat belts, touch down at Shanghai International Airport within four hours."

Cate stood beside him and he took the tablet handed to him. At this moment, his wounds had been sufficiently dressed and he had washed away the blood and grime the night before. One hand held a lit cigarette between slender fingers, long white gauze wrapped around his waist, smoke curling lazily into the vents and the other casually scrolled through the tablet's interface.

Despite his movements being careless they still carried a dangerous charm. Every part of him, deep grey eyes, aquiline nose, and his pale, cold lips-- like a wounded lion prowling slowly, waiting for the right moment to bite back.

Cate looked at his boss's commanding frame hesitantly, and coughed hoarsely but still decided to speak out,

"Boss, there haven't been any further movements from London's side. Although our men are stationed in place, there is no guarantee that Noah hasn't made any sly movements to disrupt our plans."

Selwynn didn't reply, he took a deep puff of the cheap off-brand cigarette and let it slowly drift around in his lungs, before slowly exhaling letting the grey smoke fog his vision as the tablet screen continued to move, scrolling lazily past recent news.

"Cultural Artifacts and Research Bureau have recently unearthed a tomb in the newly developed western suburbs. Further news yet to be released by the association."

Selwynn's eyes slowly paused on this inconspicuous headline and he tried to remember.

This land in the Western Suburbs that he was about and for was the first of a spree of failed business deals in his last life and had even at one point been his only hope after being pushed to bankruptcy.

His company flung into a sea of tax frauds and raided by the government dogs, a bunch of allegations and crimes being shoved onto his head and being hunted by the lingering rodents from when his father was still the head

He spent close to a billion dollars to purchase the land, he remembered clearly afterwards that the development rights that had been promised to him were suddenly withdrawn and nothing could be moved.

He held onto it because no one was willing to purchase it at a suitable price but when he was at his most desperate, he could only sell the land for 100 million to fill the gaps.

A month later the government unexpectedly lifted the silent ban on the development, spent twice the market price to purchase just the right to develop a small part of the land, and netted his enemies a multi-international deal.

He remembered this event clearly because this was when the weight of defeat slowly settled into his heart. When he became like a stray dog with his tail between his legs, falling straight from the pedestal with no ability to climb out again.

When his legs were abolished in prison by hired thugs and his life was left to hang by a thread, he would think about this night and day, wondering what the hell went wrong.

He did everything he could and yet there always seemed to be an invisible hand controlling his fate, ensuring that he would lose everything he had. As if his destiny was fixed to be cannon fodder for others.

When he died, the resentment had seeped deep into his bones and his soul could not rest even in his death. Now he was back to the eve, five years before everything began.

In his last life, he was also blocked by mercenaries in Norwegia but he wasn't nearly as lucky as he was now, he had been shot through one hand, injured his nerves and left him unable to use his right hand properly, and later had to give up the bid for Norwegia and effectively cut off his connections trades and gun arms at the docks.

Several lost underground negotiations later and his company Arlington Grace retreated from the throne of trade overlord.

Selwynn only retreated from his thoughts when the cigarette butt had burned down to his fingers. Cate stood to the side, as quiet as a mouse, he peeked at his boss through the haze of curling smoke and truly felt that the man was extremely dangerous at that moment.

Selwynn slowly dropped the tablet and twisted the cigarette butt into the ashtray, letting the feeling of icy rage slowly be suppressed to the bottom of his heart.

The plane landed steadily, and Selwynn stepped out, slick leather shoes tapping lightly on the metal stairs. Cate handed him the briefcase behind him with the required documents and he stood quietly as the rows of Black SUVs pulled up in a domineering fashion.

A chilling sneer slowly made its way to the corner of his lips.

This time he'll see how fate plans to kill him the second time around.
