Capítulo 19: Reunion
Even with all determination and sticking with Alden everywhere, every time, ignoring his growing feeling, he still got nothing. In the end, he still stood alone in Alden house. Reminiscing their times.
He walked into his working room, and opened the door.
The room is still the same. No furniture has been changed. It just as like when Alden living in this house.
Rei sighed.
He approached his working table with PC still connected to the socket. He remembered to just let the blue screen appeared in the PC while carried Alden on his back to the awaiting ambulance. He just came around and turned off the PC one week later, when he planned to clean the room after Alden's burial ceremony.
The empty feeling started gnawing at him.
His fingers brushed the screen.
"I miss you."
He said to the air.
"I should have been accompany you that night."
He remembered that time, the night before Alden's death, Rei got a really bad stomachache that he was taken to the hospital.
The doctor said that he got food poisoned.
It just didn't make sense to him. He doesn't have any food allergies. The food he ate also just the usual. The next day, he escaped the hospital and ran to Alden's house only to find him.. died.
His fingers hovered over the power button. He was hesitant, but forced himself. Closing his eyes, he pressed the button.
The PC loaded for a while. Then a pop up that asked for the login password appeared.
He sighed.
'What the password could be?'
Rei tried his luck and entered his birthday date. Yes, he is quite narcistic like that.
Unexpectedly, the password was accepted and the PC loaded the main screen. Rei's mouth hanged open.
"Wait, so the password is my birthday?"
If only Alden still alive, Rei would make jokes about it. However, he even couldn't laugh now.
Rei exhaled and stared at the menus on the screen. It just the usual default ones. However, when he looked carefully, there's one icon that he hasn't seen anywhere before.
"Could this be Alden's program that he so focused on making before his death?"
Rei just about to click the icon when his phone rang.
Rei glanced at the caller ID.
Andy, his new friend with the same class in collage blinked on the phone.
Yes, that is the same name who betrayed him in the System. What a coincidence! Anyway that name is quite common, so he just shrugged it off.
"Yes?" Rei answered the phone.
"Hey, where are you? The morning class will start in a minute."
Rei looked at his watch. The time showed 8.00 A.M.
"I can't come today."
"But why? Are you feeling unwell? Seniors said this lecturer is quite strict, you know."
"Yes, but even though I hurriedly go to college now, I will still be late. The college is one hour distance from my house by train."
"What? So you're still at home? Are you kidding me! Listen, you.. Oh no! The lecturer has come! I'll talk to you later."
Beep
The called was disconnected.
Rei breathed out. He just couldn't care less. This time, he just not in the mood to study.
His hand reached the mouse and moved it again towards the icon, then left click it twice.
...
No respond.
"Maybe this program has not completed yet?"
Rei then looked for the folder, and there were only collection of their pictures.
When they went to the beach, family photos, their junior high graduation day, and so on.
Rei smiled bitterly.
He swallowed the lump in his throat and sat down on the floor. Without him realizing it, his tears wetted his face.
He was quite surprised. He already thought that he can't cry anymore and that his tears already dried. But here he was, sobbing ugly on the floor.
"System, please come out." He begged.
A Beep sound suddenly heard from the PC behind him.
