Capítulo 182: Post Praimfaya Chapter 31

Echo moved silently through the forest, leaving Leon behind to watch her back. Night had fallen, shrouding the village in darkness, and it was the perfect time for her to carry out her infiltration. Her training as a spy and most of the time as an assassin had prepared her for such things. However, she was less excited to be seen by someone when the enemy had weapons that could kill her in seconds before she could even react.

As she neared the outskirts of the village, Echo approach the wall, she found it surprisingly sturdy, and from what she had seen it was surrounding the whole village. And if what Leon said was true, then attacking this place would be a long and bloody siege for Octavia.

Nevertheless, she didn't let that stop her and in the next moment, Echo retrieved a set of grappling hooks and ropes from her belt. She quickly secured them to a sturdy branch overhead, ensuring they would hold her weight and after taking a deep breath, she launched the hooks towards the top of the wall, the metal clinking softly against the wooden surface.

The hooks found their mark, and Echo began to climb the wall. With each passing moment, she felt the tension building within her, knowing that any misstep could jeopardize the mission and the safety of her friends.

Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, she reached the top of the wall before she crouched low, surveying the area below. It was then that a flicker of movement caught her attention. A man, one of Dyoza's men, patrolled the wall.

Seeing the man coming towards her, Echo's instincts kicked in, and she readied herself to strike, prepared to eliminate the threat silently.

But before she could make her move, an arrow whistled through the air, hitting the guard in the neck. His eyes widened in surprise, and he crumpled to the ground. When she saw that, Echo's heart skipped a beat as she realized that Leon had intervened, saving her from being detected. Reacting swiftly, she darted forward and caught the guard before he could fall to the ground, preventing any noise or commotion. With strength born from desperation, she dragged the body into the shadows, away from prying eyes.

In the darkness, Echo assessed her surroundings once more. With the guard neutralized, she knew she had to press on before someone realize that he was missing, which didn't exactly give her a lot of time to locate Clarke and the others.

After a few seconds of thinking, she continued moving silently through the village. She navigated the back area of the houses and huts, evading the occasional patrolling guards. The faint sounds of voices and distant footsteps echoed in her ears, giving her more than enough information about where the guards were and if they were coming in her direction. For the next ten minutes or so, she made her way below the wall, without any problems, but then out of nowhere, she froze as the sound of footsteps approached. Echo instinctively pressed herself against the wall, blending into the darkness, just in time as a man emerged from around the corner, unaware of her presence, and proceeded to relieve himself against a nearby hut.

Without hesitation, she swiftly approached the man from behind and she sliced his throat in one swift motion. Echo took a moment to ensure that her actions had gone unnoticed.

And after she was satisfied that no one heard or saw anything, she continued onward toward her objective. Though the closer she got to the church, the more guards she encounter, forcing her to dispatch them swiftly and silently, leaving no trace of her presence.

Finally, after she killed her sixth man, Echo arrived at the entrance of the largest building. She paused, her hand resting on the hilt of her blade, as she rethinks her strategy of going through the front door. Her instincts told her that going through the front door would be too risky. She needed another approach, a way to bypass the guards and reach Clarke and the others without alerting the enemy. With a determined glint in her eyes, she silently retreated from the entrance and moved towards the side of the building.

Finding a sturdy drainpipe, Echo began to climb, using her agile movements to scale the church's exterior, careful not to make any unnecessary noise that could give away her position. When she reached the top, she crouched low trying to blend in the darkness. From this vantage point, Echo surveyed the area below. Through one of the openings in the roof, she caught a glimpse of the captives—Clarke, Clarke's mother, Sergey, Zoe, Raven, and Murphy—lying on the floor.

Not wanting to wait anymore, she climbed down through the opening, before landing silently on her feet. She glanced around, noting that there were fewer guards inside than she had expected. It seemed that Dyoza and her men had become complacent, underestimating Leon quite a lot, then again, truth be told, she didn't know how he would have gone inside unnoticed if not for her.

Then after being sure that none of the guards were looking in her direction, she approached Clarke and the others. Her eyes fell upon Clarke, who looked back at her surprised to see her here out of all of the places. As she drew closer, Echo noticed a device on their necks.

When took a closer look she realized that it was a collar of some sort, presumably made to prevent escape. Even though she didn't know all that much about technology, the least she knew was that removing the collars without the proper knowledge or tools could trigger catastrophic consequences.

Before she gets seen by one of the guards, Echo crouched behind Clarke and whispered, "We don't have much time. I'll get you out of here, but we need to find a way to disable these collars first. Can you give me any information about them?"

Rather than Clarke, Raven's voice was heard though it was barely above a whisper, "They're linked to something but we don't know where or on whom. However, from what one of the guys here told us, Dyoza keeps it hidden on her body. We need to find it and disable it before attempting anything else."

Echo's eyes narrowed as she processed Raven's information. So, the key to disabling the collars was hidden in Dyoza herself, she thought before nodding to Raven.

Without wasting any more time, Echo reached into a hidden compartment on her sword sheet and retrieved a small dagger. She handed it to Clarke, whispering, "Take this. It may come in handy ."

After ensuring that Clarke and the others were as prepared as they could be, Echo slowly made her way back toward the opening in the roof, retracing her steps with utmost caution. She climbed up, returning to the rooftop, where she felt more exposed but also more in control of the situation.

Once there, Echo searched for a shadowy corner where she could remain hidden. She carefully positioned herself and glanced around to make sure no guards were nearby.

A few seconds later, after she was sure that she won't be seen, Echo took out a small communication device from her pocket. She pressed a few buttons and held it up to her ear, waiting for Leon's voice to come through.

After a moment, Leon's voice crackled over the radio, "Echo, is that you? What's the situation?"

Echo spoke in a hushed tone, ensuring her words wouldn't carry far, "Leon, I've reached the church. Clarke and the others are here, but they're wearing some kind of collar. It's linked to a control device hidden on Dyoza. We need to find her and disable it before we can get them out of here."
