"Kenric, do me a favor," Édouard said.

"Say it," Kenric was ready to listen to him.

"Stop Damien and tell him not to go to Matilda. Tell him it is what Édouard wants," Édouard said.

"Sure," Kenric agreed to do that and he turned to leave when he heard Damien's voice.

"Forgive me for involving you in all this. I would have gone to him, but I cannot leave Charlotte alone," he affirmed.

"I understand, Édouard. I will not let Damien meet Matilda," Kenric said with a smile and went after Damien.

Édouard went to the inner chamber to check on Charlotte and found her on the bed with her back toward him. He heard her sobs and with quiet steps he walked up to her.

Charlotte quickly wiped the tears from her eyes and kept her head away from him. Édouard sat beside her and held her hand. "Look at me, Charlotte," he said.

Her watery eyes met his. "I should not have slapped her, Édouard. I was so furious that I lost control over myself," she stated.
