Brenna POV

I’d been standing outside the door for a few minutes, trying to figure out the best way to start this conversation. There were so many questions I wanted to ask, but I couldn’t get the words right in my head. I should have written down a list or something.

Imagine my surprise when Kieran opened the door and stopped in his tracks.

I waited a moment for him to say something, but he just stared at me without a word. I felt my cheeks warm, and my eyes drop to the floor.

Why was I so nervous? I had practiced a few times with Molly before she went back to the dining hall, but even with the practice speech, everything I had memorized was gone.

I didn’t need to lower my eyes to him. If anything, I needed to meet his gaze. I hadn’t always been so timid.

My parents raised me to be confident and self-assured. Now look at me, practically quaking at the thought of asking Kieran a simple question.
