The hardest thing to avoid when you are not used to lying is to pretend like you don't know. Pretend as if nothing happened. It's hard, but that's what you have to deal with.
Becca and Cherry were doing that in front of Sheila. Those who were not used to lying find it difficult to show an expression that seemed normal. And for the sake of avoiding suspicion, they were rarely seen together except at lunchtime.
Before lunch started, Sheila came into Drake's office. During the half-day, she was just silent without asking why Drake didn't come home last night. And now, she had to ask him that question out of her curiosity.
"Where were you last night, Drake?" asked her.
"I was drunk and slept at my friend's. I'm sorry for not telling you earlier."
"But you could just tell me. I was worried that something bad happened to you."
"But I'm okay. You see me now, right? There is nothing to worry about anymore. I can take care of myself."
