The idea of Rome and Jack being best pals right now went out the window. A deadly glower was cast between them as Sharlene rolled her teary eyes their direction. Not just yet had they realized Sharlene was crying at the bar.
"Go elsewhere, Rome," Jack snarled. "You had Sharlene during Kai's wedding."
"So what!" Rome grounded his feet and growled aggressively. "I have a better connection with Sharlene compared to you!"
Jack stepped up to Rome's face but Rome didn't back down. Both vampires were doing everything in their power not to reveal their red eyes and fangs. Just at the tips of their fingernails, they felt their claws ready to slash each other.
On any other day or full moon, they'd have the common sense not to behave maliciously at one another. But tonight's blood moon fed their veins with higher testosterone. Rage from the blood moon fueled that fire to challenge
each other like animals.
Jack couldn't handle his fury any longer. "Shall we take this outside?" He asked more aggressively and his eyes were nearing red. With too many humans present, they couldn't fight here.
"What happened Sharlene?" Before Rome could accept the duel, Glenn interpreted by asking her. For not being a light species, Glenn was very gentle for their species. Kai, Ace, and the other seven walked up to the bar.
As much as Kai and their friends would have enjoyed watching two buddies duel over the same vampiress. There were more important matters dealing with Sharlene. Over watching two friends fight for her interest.
Which was common for the vampire friends to fight over females. Part of their predatory side was overstimulated which overpowered logic in their brain from being unmated.
Although the fight would be pointless. Kai wouldn't allow Jack or Rome to mate with Sharlene because their Coven was strict about mating. Only married mates or spouses could mate. But this never stopped the unmated from wanting a female's lips.
Now Rome and Jack realized Sharlene was at the bar weeping. Because they cared about her as their friend. Their rage and arousal dwindled. Reality re-filtered their mind as they looked at each other for being so stupid. Always, they equally dated Sharlene and those other unmated vampiresses in their coven in an open honest relationship. And they mostly let the vampiresses make the calls.
"Nothing," Sharlene sobs between tears as Kai hands her a napkin from off the countertop of the bar behind her back.
"You wouldn't be crying for nothing," Kai gently uttered.
He knew she was in heat and overly sensitive. Discreetly, he smells her scent and didn't pick up that she had mated with another vampire or man. So if nobody took advantage of her vulnerability. Then what was the problem? Kai inwardly questioned.
Jack scowled when he looked somewhat across the bar off to the side. In a booth was her ex-boyfriend making out with another vampiress. Her ex-boyfriend wasn't from their clan but Jack and everyone else aside from Kai, knew that vampire's game with Sharlene. He was narcissistic toward Sharlene and only played games with her heart.
"It's her ex-boyfriend," Jack told Kai and then looked at Sharlene's hurt complexion.
"Where is he?" Kai asked and looked around as Rome pointed to his direction. Instantly, Kai recognized him from the old eras.
"I guess he hasn't changed much," Kai noted to see his lips were busy with the vampiress he had in his grasp.
Ace smiled at her. "You know Rome, Jack, and our other friends you've dated. Are far better compared to him."
"I can't stop loving him!" Sharlene cried heavily and blew into the napkin. As Glenn and Kai pat her back for comfort.
"Forget about him!" Rome said, trying to be cheery. "Why don't you either pick me or Jack to hang out with tonight? Whoever you pick, we won't make a fit."
Sharlene giggled and dried a few tears. "You guys were just about to kill each other two seconds ago."
Both Jack and Rome giggled awkwardly to know this was true.
"Yes, but we come to our senses," Jack proclaimed.
"I'll tell you what," Rome proposed. "Since you were my date for Kai's wedding. I'll back off and you can go on a date with Jack tonight. It's only fair."
Sharlene agreed to that notion as Kai said relieved, "you just made my job easier."
They laughed at him but then they saw above the second floor. One of their clan members was getting into a heated conflict with another vampire in a different clan over a female.
"I think you spoke too soon," Ace chuckled.
"Alright, help me deal with that before it escalates," Kai sighed, realizing it was going to be a long night between keeping his vampiresses safe and his vampires somewhat level-headed.
Kai, Rome, Glenn, and the others started to walk off. "I expect you to behave, Jack!" He shouts over his shoulders.
Jack and Sharlene giggled when she turned around to face the bar. He then took a seat next to her while everyone left.
"Let me buy you a shot and then we can head to a different place," Jack concluded.
Sharlene agreed as she watched her ex-boyfriend with another Vampiress that she despised.
As Jack ordered two shots for them from the bartender.
"You know he only wants between your legs," Jack said gently. "That's all he wants with her too."
"Jack, you want between my legs," Sharlene turned his words around on him, giggling. Jack wasn't expecting that to happen but he laughed with her.
"Only because of the blood moon but I'm not going to take advantage of you like that," Jack didn't deny anything. "Unlike him, I care about you and what you feel."
Sharlene faced him and kissed his cheek. "I know Jack," she clarified. "It will just take time for me to get over him."
"You aren't alone," Jack kissed her forehead. "You know we are here for you."
Sharlene smiled as the shots were set on the bar for them each. On cue, they picked up their glasses.
"Here's for getting over him," Jack toasted and they clinked their glasses together. In one gulp they chugged it down. Then Jack placed the cash on the bar for the man to collect it.
"Let's get out of here," he said, holding his arm out for Sharlene. Together they smiled and left to go elsewhere so Sharlene didn't have to watch her ex.
