Capítulo 20: [Bonus chapter] Behind Prison Bars

No matter how much Cynthia insisted on learning what happened with George before she told him about her day, he wouldn't come around, he didn't cave in.

He was stubborn like that.

Cynthia hated reliving the events of the entire day, but it was like this with George. So, the two of them sat in the fully lit piano room right now, drinking hot chocolate with melted marshmallows.

She watched as all color got drained from his roughened-up face when she told him about the detective offering to open the case about her parents. Then she watched as he wore a very patient expression when she talked about inviting the newest Mrs. Green over. Then she watched as his face became beet red when she told him about the tantrum the homewrecker threw.

"How could you let her get to you like that?" He reached his hand over the table and caressed her puffy face.

But how could she not?

"She just summoned some old stupid ghosts that I had buried inside of me, it was a moment of weakness. I blame my hormones," Cynthia smiled through the continuous stinging that she was feeling in her heart still.

Deep down inside, she had asked herself questions of such nature a million times back when she first learned about her husband's betrayal through Dimitri.

Was it me?

Did I drive him away?

Could I have done something differently?

Was it something that I lacked and so he had to go and look for it somewhere else with another?

These were all legit questions that any wronged woman in her shoes must ask herself, were they not? Cynthia had finally reached the answer to all of the previous questions: NO!

A cheater would cheat on an angel, and a loyal husband would've divorced her first then went and did whatever the hell he wanted to do with every other woman on the face of the Earth. And then, she wouldn't have blamed him for it. What a single man does is his own business.

And only when she concluded that her husband was the sole person to blame for the downfall of their marriage, was she able to look forward to a future without him. She took that first step toward imagining her life post-marriage even before she learned about her pregnancy.

That was why she decided to sit down and put together a revenge plan that would guarantee her ex's downfall. She would make it so low, to the degree that he would not be able to climb up again no matter what.

These were her divorce vows. And she would not calm down before every last item on that revenge plan had seen the light.

George's blue eyes were probing deeply into her green ones while she reminisced on the old ghosts that her ex-best friend was able to conjure within her.

"Did you think she would ask for a divorce after going so far?" George could not swallow back that question.

"…Yes, because I thought that she was using him," she mused.

George felt an undercurrent to her words, as if she knew something about Sally's action, but he didn't want to question her about it just yet.

Cynthia took a deep breath, "But what she said today changes things, she truly has feelings for him. She would never ask for a divorce," Cynthia smiled wickedly, "All the better, I can't wait to see her face again after the man she loves sends her the divorce papers~" Cynthia's wicked smile turned into a full grin.

George ignored the sound of the alarm that rang in his head. This was Cynthia's chosen path, and he was going to walk it with her no matter what. He was going to be her ally, her partner in crime.

"Now, come on! It's your turn!" She said enthusiastically, she was dying to hear what he had to say after he mentioned that it would cheer her up.

George smiled because of the fact that her dark mood was subsiding, he knew that it was all thanks to his presence in this room tonight.

"Wait, let me get comfortable first,"

He took his formal black jacket off, then he loosened his grey tie with his good left hand that wasn't bandaged, and then he tried to unbutton the collar of his shirt, but it was difficult to do with his left.

"Let me," she said.

Cynthia got off her seat and took the one step that separated the two of them, she reached out and unbuttoned the first one, it was very close to his big Adam's apple that she liked so much.

When her fingers hovered over there a second too late, both of them swallowed at the same time, the electricity between their bodies changed, and they both felt that the heat in the room had suddenly become a bit too much.

She was about to take her hands back when he held both of her small wrists in his big left hand, one by one.

"Unbutton two more," he ordered her huskily.

"…Yeah, okay," she agreed as she did what he asked for, ignoring the light shivering in her hand as she did it.

It was a long day, she was tired.

She turned around and got back to her seat, then held her cup, seeking the power of the chocolate to give her some much-needed energy.

She took a sip and looked at George, he was ruffling up his hair with his good hand.

She suppressed a groan. George was as hot as a man could get.

"Will you say something already!" Cynthia exclaimed, looking for anything that would distract her.

"Hm, yes," George smiled triumphally seeing how much he physically affected her, his little hair ruffling show was one that he did only for the pleasure of her eyes.

He took a breath and got serious.

"Henry came by to the company today," his voice was rough.

He saw as Cynthia visibly winced when he spoke her ex's name out loud, but it was intentional.

'She will get over everything about him. Including his fuc*ing name,' George thought to himself, his blue eyes shining dangerously.

"How dare he show his face…" Cynthia's mood was darkening again. She did not want him near Evans-soft.

George was planning to make it so Henry Green would lose all his legal rights within Evans-soft, But that would take some time.

He smiled, "The face he showed when he came in, did not look like the face he had when he got out,"

Cynthia eyed George's bandaged hand.

"If you thought that would cheer me up, then y-"

George raised his hand, pleading with her with his eyes to allow him to finish.

He knew that the fact that George kicked Henry's as* would not mean anything to her. If Cynthia wished for things to be this way, she could've hired better-qualified people for it. Not that she was that kind of a person that would stoop so low.

"Would you like to go visit him behind prison bars?"

He gave her a few seconds until she registered what he was saying, and when she did, her face changed.
