Capítulo 9: To lose my Vcard

"I'll be looking forward to working with you, Miss Luca."

Luca smiled as she watched Xander plant a kiss on the back of her hand. She was already holding Nova on her left, retrieving her hand from his grip.

"I hope it is not the last," she returned naturally, tilting her head down slightly. "It was a pleasant lunch, Mister Kane."

"Thank you for your time." Jacques also beckoned a neck bow. They exchanged flatteries for a moment before they parted from the people of Z Holdings. On their way to the parking lot, Luca walked past Jacques and headed straight to the driver's seat.

"Key," she said, making her manager's brows crease. "I'll need to go somewhere else, Jacques."

"Ha?! Where the hell are you going?" Jacques scrunched her nose in dismay. "I'll drive you there."

Luca's smile stretched, but it didn't reach her eyes. "No need. I'll go hunting."

"Hunt — hunting?"

"Come on. Toss the key."

Jacques looked at Luca helplessly, watching the latter's fingers wiggle. Her Talent didn't have any other schedule today since she was on a break after finishing a movie. Used to Luca's whimsical personality, Jacques tossed the key over the black sedan's hood, which Luca caught in the air.

Without waiting for a second, Luca entered the driver's seat and the headlights instantly lit up. Jacques flinched when a honk pierced her ears, looking at the window roll down. Luca bent and crawled over the passenger seat to peek at her.

"What are you waiting for? I'll drop you off at the agency," said Luca with a twinge of impatience. But instead of reacting immediately, a line appeared in between Jacques' brows.

"What's up with you?" wondered Jacques as she slowly opened the door, looking at the person in the driver's seat cautiously. "You rarely drive for me."

Luca cast her a sidelong glance and then passed Nova to her. "Hold her properly."

"Oh..." Baffled and nervous at Luca's actions, Jacques could not help but wonder what sort of trouble she would have to clean up in the following days. After all, Luca was a diva. Although Luca had a redeemable quality and was good in her craft, Luca had habits that were just so annoying.

Take this instance. If this was before, Luca would've driven away without waiting for Jacques to enter. There were only two outcomes if that happened. One was Jacques running after her, or she would have to call for someone to pick her up. So, no one could blame Jacques for staring at Luca cautiously and with narrowed eyes.

Noticing the suspicious looks Jacques wasn't even concealing, Luca let out a sigh.

"I'm not planning to make any trouble, Jacques," she explained with her eyes on the road. "I just want to unwind, that's all. And my destination is the same route as the agency. So, it's better to drop you off."

"Are you sure?" Jacques narrowed her eyes even more, not buying Luca's excuse.

"Poor Jacques. She's too traumatized." Nova sighed in sympathy, meowing to catch the woman's attention. Jacques petted her on instinct, calming at the warmth of the cat's body and the softness of her black furs.

Meanwhile, Luca was observing Nova from the corner of her eyes and barely stopped herself from rolling her eyes. Even in the past, Nova liked being petted by Jacques but would treat her as a servant.

'I don't know which is more upsetting. Was it because my cat favors my friend more than me? Or the fact that my cat is rubbing that in my face?'

The car ride was filled with silence as neither of them talked. When Jacques noticed they were around the area where the agency was established, she looked at Luca, who was driving silently.

"Do you need bodyguards?" asked Jacques out of plain curiosity, knowing everywhere this woman go, the paparazzi wouldn't let her off.

"No, thanks."

"Where are you going, by the way? I need to know, just in case."

Luca's lips were drawn into a thin line. "Beach."

"Huh…?"

"I have a week before my next photoshoot for Zkinfluence," Luca explained that she wanted to use her time off to relax. "I'll text you the location where I'll be staying. You can send my stuff over and Nova's then."

As soon as the last syllables left her lips, she stepped on the break in front of the entertainment agency. Luca looked back at Jacques over the rim of her cat sunglasses, eyebrows raised.

"Fine." Jacques sighed and unbuckled her seat, carrying Nova to the backseat. Once she was free, Jacques looked at Luca solemnly, raising a finger and pointing at her.

"I don't think I need to remind you, but be careful. I will drop by the resort you'll be staying and keep me updated!"

"Yes, yes."

Jacques nagged her, completely forgetting what 'I don't think I need to remind you' even meant. After the long five minutes of her sermon, she hitched outside. But before closing the door, she bent down to look at Luca one last time.

"Remember!"

Luca resisted rolling her eyes long enough until Jacques slammed the door closed. Nova leaped to the front seat.

"She's like your mother," Nova pointed out, perking her little head over the tinted glass, catching Jacques jogging her way to the entrance of the building.

"If I don't feel sorry for her, I would've kicked her out immediately," replied Luca to her car, sprawling her arms towards the seatbelt to buckle up her cat. "She never change and was always soft on me."

Nova studied her human servant as the latter drew back after securing her in the front passenger seat. Although annoyance was evident in Luca's voice, she also noticed the affection in them. Luca had been in the entertainment circle and had learned to conceal her feelings and put on an act. It might not appear on the surface, but Luca treated Jacques' nagging as the latter being too soft on a diva like her.

"Can you now tell me what your real plan is?" Nova inquired, not dwelling on Luca's sentiments regarding Jacques and Xander. Her eyes narrowed when the side of Luca's lips curled up mischievously.

"To lose my VCard." Luca winked at her cat.
