Capítulo 3: Progress

It's been a few days since Rachel/Lira awoke in this new world. Apart from the fact that many people there seem to either not care about her or treat her like air, it was quite pleasant.

Marry was the only one who looked after her; in fact, Marry looked after the majority of the infants she had seen. Marry was quite nice, and Lira was growing fond of her. Lira would never admit it that though.

Lira had also tried to understand her situation, and she had somewhat succeeded. She, like many other kids were in some sort of lad. She had no idea what they wanted or what they were up to. But she knew she had to get out somehow.

Lira spent most of her time in her crib, doing almost nothing. She had felt something strange within her body after the comet's night. She was hesitant to use it at first, but it appeared to be safe so far. At least according to her.

So she began to do small things, such as meditate. Lira wasn't sure how she should train while being a newborn, so she decided to wing it and see how things went. In any case, she'll be able to learn a lot from the experience and hopefully improve over time. And it was effective.

It was simple; the more she mediated, the more energy her body possessed. The stronger her body was, the more energy it could contain. She can't have much energy if she doesn't have a strong body. It was a concept she recognized from previous novels she had read.

'All right, I guess I should start experimenting with it. Let's just move it around my body for now. This, I hope, will not have an impact on my negativity. I can't physically train at the moment because I'm a damned newborn. I'm curious if I can use it to strengthen my body; I doubt it'll be that simple though. If it is, it will most likely take an eternity.'

Lira didn't want to wait long to train, but she also didn't want to hurt herself in the process. So she had no choice but to wait and see what happened. People around her appear to be waiting for her to mature, so she had some time.

Lira needed to know when a child in this world would be able to walk and talk. She needed to appear valuable and talented, but not overly so. Just enough to qualify her for some special treatment. It would be a difficult balance to keep.

Lira reasoned that she might have gotten the strange enough from the comet that had passed the night before. She has no idea how, but it was a possibility. So her next priority was to see if anyone else here used the same thing she did.

If not, she must keep it a secret. She'd be in big trouble if they found out.

'I suppose I should begin now. I got up a little earlier than the other kids, so if I fall asleep, it should be fine.'

Lira shut her eyes. She took a deep breath and silently prayed to whoever reincarnated her so she couldn't end up dying. If she did, she'd at least go out and trying something new. Then she began.

Nothing happened for the first few minutes. She tried moving it around her torso, it moved around a tiny bit but very slowly, and only in a small area. Lira was pleased and sadden by the results, this would take way to long.

So Lira borrowed a trick from Biology class and fused the energy into her blood.

This was very effective. Lira could feel it coursing through her bloodstream and throughout her entire body. Her eyes flashed purple before returning to normal.

'Fusing it into my body is therefore more effective. I should probably still move it around my body.' And Lira did exactly that. For the rest of the time, she moved it around torso.

When Lira heard footsteps, she came to a halt and sighed. Nothing seemed to have happened after all that time. It was a little frustrating; Lira knew she needed to be patient, but patience was not her strong suit. She was the type to jump right in.

When she heard someone speak, Lira got a chill. She had never before heard the voice.

[That wouldn't do, little one. You need to use World Energy first. I would've be helping you again, until a contract is made that is]

'E-Eh, who was that?! W-Why am I so scared?' Lira looked around but was met with nothing. She consider that someone in the room said it, but the only person in the room was Marry, the only one that could talk that is.

'Hm, I don't like this. And what the hell is World Energy, it's probably what it sounds like but what is it used for. Does that mean the energy I use isn't user by others.'

Lira tried her best to calm myself down, but it was for naught. Lira looked up and saw Marry looking down at her with worry.

("Little Lira, why are you awake at this time.") Marry sighed and took the newborn into her arms. Marry rocked Lira in her arms walking around the room.

'Why is she so cold, and she's sweating a lot. Does she have a fever? I was asked to keep a close eye on her since her birth was rougher than the other kids.'

Marry was very worry that something was wrong with Lira. She was the quietest child she has ever taken care of, without a doubt. And it was the fact that Lira was related to someone of very high status.

Marry pitted all the children there, but Lira was at the top of the list. Her mother nor her father wanted her, but for totally different reasons. Marry rocked the child in her arms and sighed.

She knew she shouldn't be playing favorites or getting attacked to any of the children considering their situations.

'Although I have to deal with Lira in the morning, much earlier than the others, but at least afterwards she is quite. She only makes noise if she needs something.'

Marry was pulled out of her thought when she heard someone call her name.

("Marry, why are you here so early?")

She looked over with wide eyes. The woman started to sweat and bowed deeply with Lira still in her arms.

("C-Captain Val, I didn't expect you to be here?!") She said loudly. ("I was just cheeking on the children, Lira usually wakes up before the others.")

Lira frowned and also looked, she definitely remember the man. Lira had wished not to see him again, but that was didn't come to fruition. Val creeped her out, she always got a bad feeling when she was around him.

Since Lira had an idea of her situation, she was sure Val was a man in very high authority. Instead of respect or admiration, every one feared him. It wasn't that unusual, but still something she was paying attention to.

("Lira? Is that was you named the child?")

("Y-Yes, it's much better than calling her '7646', a name makes things easier!")

Val hummed and stepped forward. His eyes were dull, really dull. Lira saw nothing, it was as if she was staring into a dark void, it could consume her so easily and she wouldn't be able to do a thing.

He stopped and turned around. ("Just remember, Marry, these children are exactly just that, numbers. They only have one purpose, and that is to serve our kingdom. We have been here for over ten years now, I hope I will not have to have this talk with you again.")

Marry stiffed and nodded. ("As you wish, sir.")

'I am not have understood them, but I know for a fact that I am fucked. Majorly so.' Lira thought.

The following hours were quite peaceful for Lira, mostly because she was meditating most of the time. To others, it looked like she was just sleeping so it worked out in the girl's favour.

Lira would periodically need to take breaks since fusing the energy into her blood made her quite a bit tired. When that happened she would either sleep for real or meditate. It felt blood off all the baby noises in the room.

Marry worked with many other woman during the day and night, each of them would take a few children throughout the day. Lira was always with Marry or in her crib. Lira found the whole thing quite stupid.

Having to take care of so many children at once can have negative side affects, not only on the adults, but also the children. It's no secret that children need a parental figure in their life, and those adults wouldn't cut it.

Each child needs quite a lot of love and attention, and they can't get that if one person is trying to take care of six children all at once. If these people needed children, then why would they rase them like that.

Lira thought that maybe they just needed mindless soldiers, but that kind simpleminded. What's the good in a trained, battle hard soldier if they can't even decide what to do for themselves.

Lira refused to believe these people were that stupid. She didn't care about all the other kids but she would be here for a while, so she was going to nitpick about a lot of things.

However, that wasn't her probably. What was her probably was her need for more food, and quite a bit more. With all that she does during the day, she needs quite a lot of food. Luckily, she was able to get it.

Lira had long figured out that the people there had an abundance of money and resources. Of course she was going to take advantage of it, they wish to use her so she'll do the same.

It's a fair deal.

'I still need to find out who it was that spoke to me earlier. As much as I don't want to admit it, I'm pretty sure they help me out. But what did they mean by a contract, I have so much to do.' Lira thought with a sigh.

She wasn't fund of having to watch over her shoulder all the time, so solving this whole thing out was on the too of her priority list.

As soon as she can move that is. Until then, all she needed to do was grow up. Maybe learn some things as well.

When night came, Lira made sure no one was around. The room was quite, filled with the light snoring of some of the babies. It was dark but she could still see around her.

Leaving a bunch of newborns in a dark room with zero supervisor would be very irresponsible. Even for them. Lira lay in her crib with a small pout.

She didn't want to, but she had to try this. Her progress of spreading the energy through her body has been for nothing, it was way too slow. The reason was pretty simple actually.

She had no channels throughout her body. Like your vanes to distribute blood throughout one's body, she needed the same thing to distribute energy through her's.

Lira was starting to see that Biology and Science played quite the role in all of this. She was starting to wish she had paid more attention in those classes.

'Okay, let's give this a try.' Like before, she closed her eyes, but this time she tried to feel around her.

If World Energy was as common has it was making out to be, it should be within the air and everything else. Her body naturally produces energy so she can only assume that this one will be the same.

About an hour of trying, she felt a sort of pop within her. Like one the night of the comet, energy surged through her body. It wasn't as of a nice feeling as the first time, but it was still there.

And again, in a few seconds it was all gone. She panted but couldn't stop from throwing her arms up, or at least trying.

'Yes! Progress progress progress! This is great news, this means that the other energy probably isn't has common or not at all. Yes! This hopefully means I will have an edge over others, but now I need to find a way to keep it a secret.

'I have no idea what type of items they have in this world, maybe they can sense energy within my body with some kind of device or something. Either way, I need to my carful, but even more important is that I'm making progress.'

I will be referring to the 'strange energy' as Aether from now on.
