Capítulo 17: Chapter 16

{Mizuki POV}

My name is Mizuki. I am a normal 16 year old high school student. A freshman. I come from a family of four.

Father, mother and one elder brother. My family was pretty good and we didn't fight much.

Until that happened. My brother tried to rape one of his classmates in his final year of school.

I was in my final year of middle school. That incident tore our family apart. We faced a lot of problems.

I was teased everywhere. But the teasing gradually became harassment. My parents were also harassed.

The neighborhood became very problematic for us. So we really had a hard time for a few months.

But all this time, one person didn't do anything. He just lived freely like he didn't do anything.

That's my brother. He was accused of being a rapist but he didn't do anything. Like when people called him a rapist, he would just smile at them.

He didn't protest or get back at them. And after sometime I saw that no one calls him anything anymore.

Like everyone knew that he would not react.

At first when I was being harassed, I cried. I despaired. So the harassment increased.

But when I saw my brother like that, I thought, "Maybe I should try that as well."

So I did what he did. And it took only a week to stop.

My parents also applied the same theory and it succeeded.

The harassment stopped and people started ignoring us.

Like we are not amusing enough. So they didn't bother anymore.

That's good but I couldn't understand my brother.

I always looked up to him. He had good grades and a cheerful personality.

But when he reached middle school, he changed.

He started slacking off and stopped being serious. Didn't listen to anyone and took a part time job.

What actually goes through his mind is unknown to me.

But he still helps people. So why would he try something like that.

When the police asked him he said,

"I thought it would be amusing."

He said that with a twisted smile. Like he broke.

When the victim was asked, she didn't say anything. And due to the lack evidence, the case was dropped.

But our name was already destroyed.

About six months after the incident I saw my brother go out.

He didn't leave the house during this period. But he was unusually dressed. He even said that he has a date.

My mother didn't bother to say anything. As long as I can remember, my brother and my mother weren't on good terms.

They only said the bare minimum and ignored each other.

My father said nothing to them about that.

It always intrigued me but I couldn't ask.

So I followed my brother who was walking.

He went the neighborhood park. It was only ten minutes from our home.

"What?" I was annoyed at that.

Who goes on a date to a park in your neighborhood? But I hid from him and kept stalking him.

I was curious about who the person was.

When the saw the supposed date I was stunned.

It was Momoko. The girl who was the victim.

"What is he thinking?" I asked myself.

He is pretty weird. But to go as far as to invite your own victim. That's unheard of.

"Yo. Looking good." My brother said in a nonchalant tone.

Momoko is a girl who is the same age as my brother. She is also one of his childhood friends.

"....." but Momoko didn't reply.

"Don't be mad at me. I did what was best for you." My brother said as in vouching for him.

"Why did you do that? Why didn't say anything? You didn't do anything so why take the blame?" Momoko shouted.

Tears were falling down her cheeks. She was crying and asking him that.

He took the blame. I was shocked. So shocked that I felt like time had stopped.

"I protected you. So it's fine." He said with a carefree smile. Like he didn't care about what happened to him.

But Momoko was still crying. They kept their conversation brief but it was enough for me understand.

Momoko was about to be raped by a teacher. My brother saw it and stopped him.

So the teacher framed him and used Momoko as a hostage.

My brother just took the blame and kept quiet about it.

"He really is an idiot." I said that to myself suppressing my anger.

I don't know if I should thank him or blame him.

He became the scapegoat and took the disgrace on to him.

For that I was pretty mad at him. So I stopped talking to him.

My brother didn't bother anyone and like that he graduated from high school.

He is now a college student and I am a freshman at his former school.

Today I met my brother who is in thought. He seems to be thinking about something.

We met at the stairs and he said,

"Nice day ain't it?"

With a sloppy smile as always. Why is he so carefree.

I glared at him and told him,

"Don't talk to me ever again."

He withdrew from the conversation. He didn't persuade me or anything.

He just stopped in front of the door and thought about something. Then he went out.

"Where did he go?" I was curious but I have some work.

So I left too. But when I was passing by the park I saw him.

He was sitting on a bench with a girl.

It was Momoko. He was sitting with her. But it didn't look like they were talking.

Still, it pissed me off. I was staring at them and then he noticed me. But he looked away from me and pretended that he didn't see me.

I got irritated and left.

What does he wanna do? I still don't get it.

But he is scheming something, that much I'm sure of it.

Maybe I should just ask him.

But there's no way I can do that.

Let's see what he does.
