Declan was taken aback yet again, not by his apology, but by his remorseful tone. He could not figure out why Derrek was sounding so depressed. He had seen the change in his demeanor. His always-jovial younger brother appeared solemn and distressed. He thought it was because of the current situation in the family.

Instead of consoling him, he scoffed, "What are you apologizing for? Do you think my mind will change after hearing your apology? Let me remind you: Nothing can be obtained without hard work."

Derrek broke free from his embrace and scowled at him. "I am sincerely apologizing to you, and you think I am flattering you. I don't need anything free. I will work hard and earn the position I deserve. Got it?" He pivoted and stormed out.

Declan smirked, pleased with his response. He sat down on the sofa and started eating.
